I wanted to share something for febROVERy...though technically this was built around November, as part of a larger project. (I hope to reveal more about that soon.)

Anyhow, CLASSIC SPACE. Enjoy!

There was nothing like Swooshing your new LEGO ship, back in the day.

The crew of LL-928 explore a planet rich with ancient life

1991’s Blacktron II little battle pack, The Two-Pilot Craft. What a name.

This fun little craft is about as basic as it gets. No printed pieces, other than the minifigs, but the weird thing has charm!

Blacktron II is a great space sub-theme with the black, white, and neon green color scheme. Really screams retro LEGO to me.

Acquiring this set was really just to grab a couple more of these minifigs for cheap, but I’m happy with this funny little craft.

More ‘90s LEGO to be featured soon, including more (larger) Blacktron II

First entry made for a nice contest on Lego Idea "Out of this World Space Builds". I have wanted to build a neo-classic space starship for some time but didn't find the inspiration, this contest was a good thing to make me start.

It’s a little display of a classic spaceman mining a comet to extract some ice and gems.

This neat little ship appears to be heavily inspired by set 60224.

1991’s Aerial Intruder from the Blacktron II fraction enters the LEGO City!

The ‘Big’ ship from a fan favorite (myself decidedly included) sub-theme is actually not all that big compared to the other Space sub-themes’ flagships. This ship checks the majority of my criteria for what made an excellent spaceship play set as a kid!

Great color scheme and cool large transparent elements?

Blacktron 2 has arguably the best + printed large windshield!

Detachable base with usable interior space?

The center of the ship is large when opened and has an aft storage compartment. While tight when loaded with cargo, great when side-builds are deployed

Dropship/Escape Pod?

Two of the best designed simple ships that deploy from the sides, that are also designed to be compatible with the rest of the sub-theme! So simple and genius

And a bonus jetpack element that is classic

Rover?

Two! Yes, super simple, but very standard for the time.

Action features?

The simple rover launch action definitely suffices.

Droid/Robot?

Not for this faction, but I believe that’s because they were outlaws. Correct me if I’m wrong?

Yes, I’m a really big fan of this old spaceship. Any detractors, like having 5 pilot-able options with only two minifigs can be understood with all their buddies they’d have to break from the Space Police II

This Absolute Classic brings me to the conclusion of my look back at some of my favorite LEGO from the ‘90s. I’m sure I’ll do more shoots with these sets in the future, but I’ve got a ton of contemporary sets to showcase for now and a large MOC in progress.

What did you think of this ship? Did you have it? Does it hold up today?

My second entry for the contest "Out of this World Space Builds" on Lego Idea.

Story:

“A group of villain women have taken over Space and harmony. The heartless leader, Miss Andrea try, in her heart shape spacecraft, to flee the consequences of her actions, her reprehensible acts!!! She even has desacralized the logo of the M-tron to make W-tron (Women-tron), such an unforgivable offense!

At her pursuit, a coalition of 2 classic space squads, the leader of the "EK" squad, Eddy and the leader of "WAL" squad, Cindy. They have developed a strong bond and they are quite complementary; Eddy is a fine pilot and Cindy a good shooter especially with the ion gun that are perfect to disable engines. Together with their new alliance, the "EK-WAL" squad, they want to bring Miss Andrea to justice where she will have a fair trial with all the facts and proofs of her wrongdoings.”

Tip: it’s kind of obvious but you need to read between the lines to understand my intention (say rapidly and out loud the name of the villain)

Don’t judge my photoshop skills, I’m a beginner ^_^

Build for Lego Ideas' Exploring The Cosmos challenge

Benny was initially a bit put out when he was told he had to recycle his old '80's technology, however he soon managed to make the most of it.

Somewhat mandatory shot. That concludes the 928 project, although there are some more aesthetic and stability fine tunings. Next is the 493 project, 4000+ pieces and still in progress!

The LL331 is a short range planetary scout. Equipped with sonar detectors, the LL331 is able to skim the surface of a planet in search of mineral deposits.

Note: The LL331 is based on LEGO set 1974 - Star Quest

This is my entry for the Lego Ideas Minifigure Battle contest.

February is "FebRovery," the month for building LEGO space rovers. While I only built one rover, I am super proud of the base piece, a "wagon" from Primo, the long-gone system of LEGO for babies. The wagon has no real way to connect it to system parts, so the rover pieces sit gently on the body. I was able to fit a ball-joint ball in the front hook, allowing for an articulated drilling arm.

After receiving numerous complaints about its vehicles from matt rowntRee, Llwyngwril Space Systems decided to design a vehicle which would deal with his main problems.

By totally encasing the driver, there was no chance of fatally ejecting the driver from the vehicle. This had only occurred a handful of times on previous designs and not to any statistically significant degree. Nonetheless, the designers felt it was important to address this perceived problem. The driver could see where he was going thanks to stereoscopic radar vision. The driver's cockpit hung like a pendulum to keep it level at all times.

By having no structure at all, apart from the wheels, there was nothing to protect from spray and therefore NO NEED FOR MUDFLAPS!!!

I took some liberty on the classic space colors.

This is another wedge shaped star fighter inspired by the star destroyer.

Go ahead and grab a hammer or turkey leg on the way out why don't you...

Size and shape is the same, but the engine detail, roof, tailgate, and interior furnishings are different, and the underside is mostly new because the source material didn't have good pictures of the bottom.

Just a hangar for my exo suits and som other classic space stuff. This is my second version. Edition three is greatly delayed.

When the Giant Galactic Glass (3G) company produced their windscreen #13252 in Transparent Yellow, designers across galaxy were very excited. 3G's product allowed unparalleled bandwidths of light to pass through, creating amazing experiences for users of mobile space stuff (or that's what their brochures said). Llwyngwril Systems were commissioned to use the new component in a surface vehicle. The Design Director crossed the car park to shed where the vehicle design team were based with heavy heart and this rover was the result.

The rover featured large balloon tyres and suspension with big springs and a long range of travel. This enabled it to traverse the roughest, rockiest craters on the lunar surface. Two large floodlights were mounted on the front of the rover, along with twin bull-bars, in case of a cattle stampede (On the moon? Really?). A radar was also mounted on the front of the cabin. This last piece of equipment was essential.

The vehicle's designers were very afraid of the large, expensive canopy being damaged. They decided to mount it in a manner that would protect it from flying rocks and other debris, though this did result in a somewhat restricted view for the driver. A second crewman sat in the back to help the driver find his way over rugged terrain, at high speed.

The rover was never popular with its crews, despite its high speed, comfortable ride and spacious, pressurised cabin. The driver's restricted view resulted in frequent crashes. As there were no cup holders, mugs of English Breakfast and Yorkshire tea were spilled all around the cabin. If you've ever spilt tea in your car, you'll know that it will smell like bad cheese for weeks afterwards. Crews were forced to either drink their tea black or wear their spacesuits with the helmets closed to keep the cheesy smell out.

Fourth Wall

As soon as I saw this windscreen on the Lego Movie "Spaceship!", I knew exactly which way round it really should have gone...

Using the large brown arch as the seed part, I built this Classic Space needlepoint MOC for May's LUG Iron Builder competition

Benny's manic smile is a little more disturbing in this context.

While techincally not CSR, Crimso made me do it.
