The classic laker Philip R. Clarke makes for a nice backdrop for a pair of classic Soo GP38-2s (did I just call a GP38-2 classic - I must be getting old).
Cover to, "The World Around Us, The Illustrated Story of Prehistoric Animals, A Classics Illustrated Publication" from November 1959.
Arriving just after the last eastbound GO train, CN 542 pulls up the switchback in Guelph with cars from Hunts Haulage and FloChem. These would be dropped in XW22 before lifting cars from XW12 and proceeding up the Guelph North Spur.
And old EMD and an old UH-1 "Huey"; two classics of a bygone era. Blue Ridge Southern's T59 works Giles Chemical in Waynesville, NC before heading over the mountain to Addie
With the new lineup the engineer climbs aboard the 261 and rides up to a fresh cut of cars that will be sorted. MRL 118 has been a regular on the switch job that makes the short run to the refinery. Sharp unit, it stung a bit to miss it the day before but at least I recorded it for posterity here. July 9, 2022.
It's a murky muggy August day in 1978. John Eagan and I are on a swing of visiting the northeastern part of the country, in search of treasures that we're not going to find in our home state of Illinois. Treasures like the beast on the right, GG-1 4857, joined by another future classic, SD40-2 6440. Both of these Conrail classics are getting ready to roll out of Harrisburg, PA. The 6440 is tied onto an old untouched ex PC SD45, while the 4857 is part of a trio of GG-1's. Maybe, someone can tell me why the 4857 has those air screens or radiators or whatever they are up on the nose instead of the carbody like other GG-1s do.

CSX local Y-217 was working the west end of Winans Yard in West Baltimore back in 1992. Former Western Maryland Railway GP40 3798 and Baltimore and Ohio GP38 4814 were both looking ragged but nonetheless awesome.
The WM motor went on as Indiana Southern 4041 and the B&O geep is now a rebuilt GP38-3 working for the Wichita Tillman & Jackson Railway after a stint in the lease fleet and work for the Union Pacific.

The night is heading in from the east and chasing the last of the blue hour away.
This is Coleham Yards in Shrewsbury. 97303 stands in the foreground all prepped up and ready to depart with the 3S71 2113 Coleham Yard to Coleham Yard RHTT. The route will take her to Machynlleth and back where 56051 and 56049 will take over TnT. Their route will take them to Bidston and back to Shrewsbury before heading to Holyhead via Crewe and return. I would later rendezvous with this working at Holyhead around mid dayish the following day.
Also visible in this shot are 56078, 97301 and 302.
I was pushing my luck with this night time drone shot, luckily winds were low and i managed a couple of sharp shots. 90% of the pictures i took during this evening ended up on the edit room floor. Patience is required when conducting night time shoots with drones and a good feel for the wind.
A manned tower and a...uh, shoving platform, was my focus on a chilly day at Tower B17 in Bensenville. The old crusty Soo Line caboose number 98 was looking a bit "urban" thanks to those with no regard for private property.
Compare this with a similar scene from 2001. Times have changed.

RML2633, now preserved, negotiates Marble Arch on route 74 in April 1972, surrounded by a fine selection of what would now be regarded as classic cars.
Scanned from a Kodachrome slide taken by the late John Hambley, now in my collection.
Chilly morning but with a nice sunrise this Sunday. After dropping off my wife for work I decided I should get some pics of two classic lakers at Fraser Shipyard in Superior WI. Seen here is the Honorable James Oberstar and Lee Tregurtha.
