President Steyn Gold Mining Company Limited Hyde 2-8-2 locomotive No.7 Loss Control is shunted by President Steyn Gold Mining Company Limited General Electric Company Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive No.1 on the locomotive depot at the President Steyn Mine at Welkom in South Africa. Monday 4th June 1984

Note, And No.7 was built by the North British Locomotive Company Limited (works number 16270) in Glasgow, Scotland in 1904 for the Central South African Railway as number 721. The Central South African Railways became part of the South African Railways and Harbours Administration on 31st May 1910, 721 being renumbered 933 in the 1st January 1912 renumbering scheme. After withdrawal from service it was purchased by the President Steyn Gold Mining Company Limited as No.7. It was withdrawn from use in the late 1980s but was moved to the Free State Consolidated Gold Mines (Operations) Limited’s FREEGOLD (North) system before passing into preservation

I was advised that there were no locomotives in steam during my visit due the previous Friday being Ascension Day in South Africa and so no reef needed moving
