One of the most beloved landmarks of the twin cities of Champaign-Urbana, the Orpheum has a long history.

The first Orpheum Theatre was built in 1904 as a vaudeville venue, and taken over by Marcus Heiman in 1909. In 1912, it was torn down with the promise that Heiman would erect a new and much larger theater.

The New Orpheum Theatre, as it was originally called, opened in 1914. Designed by the firm of Rapp & Rapp, the theater was based upon the Salle de la Spectacle at Versailles. It had a 30 foot high main lobby, a 40 foot high auditorium ringed with 24 corinthian columns, and highly ornamented loge boxes at the mezzanine level. The stage was large enough for any vaudeville act, and included a screen for moving pictures.

Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Carmen, very interesting and beautiful church. It's style is gothic florentine with bizantine and moorish influence. It is beautiful inside.

I wish I had my rergular sized tripod rather than my small Gorilla tripod. I was closing time so almost everyone had left. In order to get a quick set of 3 shots I set the aperture to 3.5 so I could get the 3 shots in 2 seconds. I shot set with higher apertures but the tripod was not level, I probably bumped the legs when I picked up the camera.

Lots of processing here. Photomatix Details Enhancer and then Imagenomic to reduce the noise. The output was dull and a bit soft focus at the far end. Also the benches were too red and purple. Used Nik Vivezza 2 to adjust the colors, reducing the saturation in the benches, brightening the columns and cieling. Used Tonal Contrast and unsharp mask to bring out the fine details in the decorations.

The design encomasses features of Corinthian and Islamic styles of architecture with a tinghe of sub continental style. Corinthian touch is visible in the columns, balustrade, pediments and the vaulted cieling of Durbar Hall. The Islamic style is evident in the five domes whereas, the angular elliptical shapes are a stroke of subcontinent style.

Leadenhall Market

It is one of the oldest markets in London, dating from the 14th century, and is located in the historic centre of the City of London financial district.

The market dates from the 14th century. It is typically open weekdays from 10 am until 6 pm, and primarily sells fresh food; among the vendors there are cheesemongers, butchers and florists.

Originally a meat, game and poultry market, it stands on what was the centre of Roman London .

The ornate roof structure, painted green, maroon and cream, and cobbled floors of the current structure, designed in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones who was the architect of Billingsgate and Smithfield markets.

The main entrance to the market is on Gracechurch Street. The double height entrance is flanked by tall, narrow gabled red brick and Portland stone blocks in a C17 Dutch style. The adjacent buildings to the south have a continuous retail frontage which is punctuated by narrow entrances to pedestrian ways into the market.

looking into the tasting rooms of the chocolate factory

Been busy working on other things lately, among which is are various websites to showcase work of different types... then there's the work itself... then real work... anyways, its been a while since I went shooting. I missed it.

This house scared the crap out of me. It creaked and groaned like the bowels of hell were in the basement, just urging it upwards. As you can see by the severely bowed cieling, I dared not venture to the top floor for fear of instigating a collapse.
