The Sintra Room, also known as the 'Arms Room' in the Sintra National Palace. Decorated with no less than 72 coats of arms of members of the Portuguese Royal families it was built in the 16th Century. The iconic azulejos blue and white tiles date from the 18th century. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Taken on my mobile using the ultra wide angle lens.

More commonly referred to by it's new name, the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, this impressive structure was built in 1909 to expand rail service in Chattanooga. Much larger than the Union Station built in the mid-19th century.

Declining ridership and rail service led to the station being closed in 1970, but a group of investors saved the building from destruction and it was originally opened in 1973 as a hotel, adopting the Chattanooga Choo Choo name from the famous Glenn Miller song.

My 4th entry for round 2 of the Iron Forge.

I had more planned for this scene, but after realizing that the deadline is tomorrow, not Saturday like I had been thinking it was, I decided to just post it like this. Hopefully I'll be able to finish my last entry in time...

I've been a bit busy with work of late so not had much camera time as a result...

Last week I was focus plotting a show of mine in London, so as I had the camera I headed out after I finished work. On a whim I headed to the V&A Museum, and photographed this great ceiling reflected in a glass cabinet.

Rothschild's giraffe in the zoo in Płock :)

Rothschild's giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) is a subspecies of ithe Northern giraffe. It is one of the most endangered distinct populations of giraffe, with about 2000 individuals estimated in the wild. It was named after the Tring Museum's founder, Walter Rothschild and is also known as the Ugandan giraffe. These giraffes have sharply irregular patches all over their body, with less jagged edges than the Kenyan giraffe. They are visible on the creamy background. In addition, Rothschild's giraffe displays no markings on the lower leg, giving it the impression of wearing white stockings. Another distinguishing feature of Rothschild's giraffe, although harder to spot, is the number of ossicones on the head. This is the only Giraffa phenotype to be born with five ossicones. Two of these are the larger and more obvious ones at the top of the head, which are common to all giraffes. The third ossicone can often be seen in the center of the giraffe's forehead, and the other two are behind each ear. Adult males reach a height of up to 6 meters and are one of the tallest subspecies of giraffes.

Self-portrait

(November 8th, 2019)

Terlingua, TX, U.S.A.

We stayed for two more days in the Big Bend at Jim's place called Casa de Creosote, a romantic studio style wooden cabin. The house was very secluded offering privacy and solitude being located on a 20 acre piece of land on Terlingua ranch with beautiful 360 degree views of the Christmas Mountains and Nine Point Mesa. There was also a beautiful wooden porch with hammock, and outdoor couch for stars watching. Jim was a musician, and built it as his creative space to make music and enjoy the Big Bend Region. We could meet him upon arrival as he gave us a short orientation. By the way, I was lucky enough to take a portrait of him; he even had his guitar in the car, and was kind to pose with it for me.

Yes, you don't check automatically into a desert lodging. First, you need to learn things about conserving water, electricity, safety etc., and indeed, staying at Jim's place felt like truly learning desert. The house was running on solar power energy and was able to run everything that was in the house including cieling fan, charge cellphones or computers (I could charge my camera battery without problem), but not much else. I couldn't for example plug in my hair dryer or anythign that got hot quickly. All of the water at the house was collected from the rare desert rain. Applying my moisturizing cream Hydra Zen by Lancôme on the face felt like a luxuary and a deadly sin at the same time in such conditions. There was a composting toilet using peat moss to cover your # business, solar shower set up, and ... two lovely cats Franky and Capitan, both looking alike. They were cute, and cuddly. Sadly, they hated each other like hell, and had the first bloody fight just after Jim left. I decided to keep them separated as much as I could so I don't have to worry about their wounds.

The first night was rather chilly, so we couldn't have an outdoor shower, but had quite a good experience with the composting toilet. I felt it was the right thing to do in the desert; all natural, no water waste. The only problem was using it late at night; you had to walk quite a distance through the desert to the toilet. During the day, Capitan was my buddy to assist me all the way there, so I wasn't feeling lonely. I am sure he would at night too, but I wasn't brave enough to go out at night... Franky instead was my "natural heater". I let her in, and she was simply sleeping on me. I knew at least that she was safe at night staying inside. Capitan didn't want to enter in the house.

I shot this picture outdoors on the porch the first day we arrived. It was getting colder and colder, and I was putting more and more clothes on. There was still enough daylight to take some more photos, but I was simply freezing, so gave up on this idea. The next day was very warm and sunny. After the afternoon hike, I was able to shoot freely for my project "My Life Is a Picture" as well as for "Skin-to-Skin: places I touched". I used my Pentax K3, and a Polaroid camera to capture that unique landscape, place and moments of my life. The desert felt very warm at the golden hour, I felt free and inspired to create, Capitan made me feel good by following me everywhere. I would say: little heaven on earth.

Spośród stu milardów innych to właśnie ja runełam w dół. Teraz możesz mnie dotykać, ja staje sie witrażem i rzucam zielone światła na twoje stopy, strop gwiazd we mnie. W moim oddechu zapleciony zapach jesieni. Daje Ci chwilę w której możesz zadecydowac czy chcesz."

Leadenhall Market

It is one of the oldest markets in London, dating from the 14th century, and is located in the historic centre of the City of London financial district.

The market dates from the 14th century. It is typically open weekdays from 10 am until 6 pm, and primarily sells fresh food; among the vendors there are cheesemongers, butchers and florists.

Originally a meat, game and poultry market, it stands on what was the centre of Roman London .

The ornate roof structure, painted green, maroon and cream, and cobbled floors of the current structure, designed in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones who was the architect of Billingsgate and Smithfield markets.

The main entrance to the market is on Gracechurch Street. The double height entrance is flanked by tall, narrow gabled red brick and Portland stone blocks in a C17 Dutch style. The adjacent buildings to the south have a continuous retail frontage which is punctuated by narrow entrances to pedestrian ways into the market.
