After the record snow this winter we had a chipmunk scare: I did not see any until May. Charlie showed up on May 1st, a couple weeks later there were some kids running around, possibly hers. I think their population has suffered. We are lucky to still have Charlie (and babies); she has been on my shoulder already :)

A curious, begging little chipmunk on Wolf Creek Pass near Pagosa Springs, CO.

A chipmunk busy eating a snack hardly paid any attention to me.

Sunlight put a little spotlight on it in an otherwise shady woods.

Eastern Chipmunk - South Branch of the Raritan River, Ken Lockwood Gorge, Annandale, New Jersey

View On Black

I found this guy prospecting a driftwood jam about 10 feet out into the river.

I was waiting for a Waterthrush to work the jam, but it didn't show, so I settled for this guy.

I was after birds as always, but it it is hard to resist a Chipmunk when the opportunity happens.

Longer ears and less distinctive stripes on the body differentiate this from the Eastern Chipmunks I usually see in New Jersey. Hillsboro, OR
