Chipmunk glimpsing out of its burrow covered by the autumn leaves

a Cliff Chipmunk stretches across a burnt log on Mt. Lemmon

I think this is a Least Chipmunk (Tamias minimus) but please correct me if I have the id wrong. We saw lots of these little creatures and similar looking Ground Squirrels (without the stripey head). It's actually illegal to feed the wildlife but nobody told these little creatures and they will stand on their hind legs and beg for food from visitors. This one was seen near the top of the Blackcomb chairlift, above Whistler village. The white backdrop, is snow on the mountain behind.

I was watching this Chipmunk at Skihist Provincial Park in the Fraser Canyon. Got to be one of the hottest places in the province. It was perched quite nicely on the concrete barrier when we heard a pine cone drop. It bolted over there to check it out.

After the record snow this winter we had a chipmunk scare: I did not see any until May. Charlie showed up on May 1st, a couple weeks later there were some kids running around, possibly hers. I think their population has suffered. We are lucky to still have Charlie (and babies); she has been on my shoulder already :)

Apparently I have two chipmunks visiting the compound.

I think Chipmunks are such beautiful wee creatures:)

Full and still on the lookout for more....
