The wonders of rail photography in the digital information age:

While sitting at the kitchen table during the Saturday lunch hour, I happened to spot a "heads up" post on a Facebook railroad group from hours earlier about an unusual BNSF lashup leading a road train in northwestern Illinois bound for the Twin Cities. Using followup location postings I was able to form a rough ETA on the nearby St. Croix sub. I then finished lunch, loaded up the kids and we set out to stake out a spot to intercept it for a photo. Within the hour I was able to bag this GALNTW manifest, led by a former Santa Fe "Bluebonnet" GP50.

BNSF 3167 was built as the ATSF 3814 in Febuary 1981.

We remained indoors because it's blackfly season, and they are rampant. I did sneak out briefly to capture this photo, which I have done more than once before. Deep computer woes. Not sure how much I will be posting. This is done strictly on iPad.

Had a long week of working out and taking photos i wanted to sit home and have a huge meal !

Honey bee on runner bean flower - robbing the nectar and avoiding any pollination duty

The honey bees utilise the holes in the tube of the flower to get the nectar. My runner beans set pods well so I wont get cross with my bees.

I dont think the honey bees are capable of making the holes themselves but they are very quick to find the holes made by others (probably bumble bees make the holes I think)

Playing with actions on ps. This one is called Architekt. Had to do some creative engineering to get it to work with my old ass version of ps. Guarantee I'm gonna do at least two more of these cause they are so fun to play with.

Some times a rainy day in and bad tv is just what the Dr ordered

this looks nothing like the original. someday i want to be a film genius so i'll never touch photoshop. sometimes i feel like i'm cheating, you know? because anyone can use photoshop, anyone can edit in a lens blur or some extra lighting. i really admire those who have defined style in film, like the dreamy photos by natalie kucken and craig schlewitz.

"Doug, are you cheating again?"

"I don't call it cheating, I call it creative planning."

After two days of rain, the colors were popping on the road between Babb and Browning in Montana. Only trouble was, the sky was blank white. Got home to Philly and had blue sky with puffy whites. So ... I kinda like cheating. I think I'll take up poker.

I always felt that shooting the 'dupe was cheating. Well, maybe not if it's self-aware. The whole train screams through Sandcut into a storm over the Tehachapi mountains.

this year I will try to choose one photo a day for this pseudo-project, no matter the motive, style, colour or technique. encouraging myself to shoot everyday, even if I can't go outside.

But here I only cheated so you could see where I was.

Dry Island Buffalo Jump is about an hour southeast or Red Deer and it's considered the start to the Alberta Badlands in the Red Deer River Valley. The badlands become more pronounced as you go south toward Drumheller.

This was taken on Oct. 26/13, also known as the last snow-free day in Central Alberta.

"Got the one and only walkin', talkin', livin' doll"

(Cliff Richard)

Fifteen months: hard to believe I’ve spent a whole year (and a bonus quarter) with the silliest, hottest, and absolutely babygirliest babygirl on this sad planet and survived all the fun and mayhem. You somehow manage to make me laugh until my face hurts while melting my cool. Basically, you’re a total cheat code for happiness. Thanks for being my partner-in-chaos, my favorite person, always open-minded and never judgmental. No one loves people like you do, and I am lucky to be one of them. Love you endlessly, you fatass panda-fond cuntlet. To paraphrase a bunch of Tina Turner songs: 'This not so private dancer is simply the best and makes my windows super steamy'.

I've been cheating since I was 9 years old.

This is one of the first photos I took with my new old Casio Ex-Z750 that I bought at a garage sale yesterday for 6$. I love those little old digital cameras. If you know how to use them, in some situations they are as good as, or better than, DSLRs.

Designed & folded by me

From an uncut square

I was given this tip by one of my birder friends in Kensington Gardens. The idea is to jam peanuts into a crack in a tree trunk to attract Nuthatches. It didn`t work for me but this Great Tit enjoyed them! I stuck a couple of shelled peanuts in too & a Jay grabbed them but didn`t stay long enough to get a shot!

A perfectly timed leap forward and upward by this young wildebeest presented a flat surface to the open jaws of this croc. The giant reptile was unable to obtain a grip on the wildebeest which then pounded its front hooves down onto the head of the croc; this was just enough to secure the young wildebeest's escape from the jaws of death.
