One of the key rules of race-walking is that at least one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times. There were monitors dotted around the track poised to show a yellow card to anyone who breached the rule; indeed warnings were given. But observing the rule isn't always easy, so it's not surprising that occasionally a walker will be spotted with both feet off the ground. It may just be bad luck that in three of my photos the winners of the men's and women's races are shown breaking the rule.
I call it cheating moon because I cheated when I took the picture. I used the multiple exposure setting: I took a photo of the moon then a second photo of the ESB.
Front page feature in the next issue of our paper is going to be about cheating. Obviously, we needed to stage a shot; this was what I came up with for the photo.
I took this photo on my thirtieth birthday, two days ago. And on that day, my husband gave me the delightful gift of what was possibly the most severe stomach flu I've ever had.
Which meant that I spent all day yesterday in varying degrees of consciousness.

So here's that random, two-day-old shot: a blue marble that I found in my garden bed. Weird place to find a marble, no? Made me wish I had a macro lens - I could do all kinds of cool shiznit with that. But I don't, so this is what I ended up with. Meh.

Finally I have corrected the exposure by opening up the aperture to f/4. You can see some shadow at the top and the lighting is still uneven with the bottom of the frame slightly darker than it should be. Nevertheless I am shooting here with conventional flash at 1/8000s.
I hope this shows that this cheat is worthwhile for those situations where you need a high shutter speed with flash and the low output available from FP sync mode just doesn't cut it. The extra couple of stops this technique gives you from your lights can make a shot in bright sunlight which would otherwise have you wishing for more powerful lights or some open shade to work in.
