. . . like lovers do. It's a nice spot even if we were cheated out of a true sunset view last evening. The clouds look threatening, but we trusted the weather forecast: No rain. (And the forecast was accurate, too.) This is the point at the north end of Bamberg's central island (known here as Erba Island). It's where the canal (to the right) and the river (on the left) come together. Sort of a romantic spot. Or at least a nice place to relax in the evening, which is what numerous people do. I thought of the Eurythmics song (Here Comes the Rain Again, 1984) when I saw the couple in this image. [DSC04409_lr_2000]

"Was gonna workout...but then I smelled the aroma from the local pizzeria. So, my cheat day came early..." xoxo
This was the point of the long bus ride and the end of two hours on the train. The High Falls is horseshoe-shaped, and over 100ft wide, falling 20ft into a large pool below. Like all the rivers and creeks that we had seen previously it was low in volume due to a serious lack of rain. Still very beautiful! Unlike my part mountain goat buddy Anita, I did not go on the slippery rocks to get the view from head on but stayed in safety at the side. LOL There were 65 stairs down to this point, most of them covered in damp, slippery leaves. The only way to see the falls is by hiking in or taking the train. We were allowed about 45 minutes here to enjoy this wonderful place and then back to the train for the 2 hour trek back down and out of the mountains. It was well worth the long ride on the bus, juggling lunch between the moving cars and the super early start to the day! :)
A pair of QJs race up the grade from Jingpeng near Xiakengzi.
This isn't really real, it was a 'special' ran on 1 January 2008, after operational steam use had ended on the line. But it almost looks the part.

Lately I, I've been rolling with the tide
It swept me away, to another place
Lord knows, you ain't seen enough of me
Why did I fall asleep, on a love so deep?
I fell apart when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
Broke my own heart, when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
Our love is like a fading melody
A song I should've sung, a note I should've reached
A loneliness, that I find hard to describe
Stayed up so many nights, I could've been by your side
I fell apart when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
Broke my own heart, when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
Why don't you cry?
You live this life
You live this life
I fell apart when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
Broke my own heart, when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
Cheating on me
I fell apart when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
Broke my own heart, when I couldn't see
I was cheating on me
I've been casting some envious glances at the butterfly pics I'm seeing posted on flickr, especially those from back in Somerset. I've been very lucky with what I've been able to encounter here in Wales however I do miss those Somerset wildflower meadows.
So here's one from last year.....which is cheating a bit I know.

Granite Mountain Prescott Arizona taken from my back deck.
Feels like a cheat, I normally would climb up on the rocks in the back yard for a better vista but the white stuff is still a huge obstacle.
A year ago if someone told me I would move to Arizona, be a shut in coveting my neighbors snow shovel I would have scoffed, but here I am. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, and I should know better, winters there are tough. but an accumulation of over 2 feet of snow in 36 hours would be inconvenient in the midwest also.
So much for assumptions.
UPDATE : So I wanted to take a picture of Granite Mountain in the early hours but couldn't find the arch way. Thats because there isn't one. The illusion is caused by the shadow from rock protruding from the mountain. It is only visible later in the day as the sun starts its journey to the west.
