I caught this chasing the storm and the light yesterday. If you zoom in on the clouds you can see hundreds of birds in formation heading south. More photos like this can be found at www.benjaminfargendesigns.com/

Light plays just so. The shapes cast provide anchors and offset framing for the main characters lit with gorgeous rim light. Patterns abound adding visual interest to the simple scene. An extra - his elbow pointing my eye inward - adds a whimsical touch. Monochrome keeps it simple - it's all about shapes and tones and contrast. And the story.

A simple fragment spied in the city mixed with ICM, intentional camera movement, creates a wondrous pattern that delights my eye. Contrasting textures and shapes and colors all add to an orderly repeat of elements and patterns.

Another misty sunrise shot. I loved the blanket of fog enshrouding this rural scene, and the wonderfully long shadows. This should be the last of my sunbeams & fog session folks!

It is a very windy & chilly day in Chicago. 50 mph winds last night, so I will be stepping outside to see if there any leaves yet.

Happy Fence Friday Everyone!

Rain-soaked from relentless Atlantic waves, I aimed my lens down the iconic seawall to catch a tourist celebrating the surge’s triumphant crash. Under Havana’s twilight, the Malecon becomes a stage where human exuberance meets raw ocean force, each droplet glinting like suspended jewels. In capturing this split-second interplay, I learned that art sometimes demands we step into the splash zone—shirt drenched and shutter humming.

Here on the shore, we suffer for our art, discovering that the best moments are worth every salty drop.

"Chasing Light" - Basking in the last of the morning light. A simple capture of light and autumn warmth on my journey through nature.

You know when I saw the sunbeams that I didn't take just one shot. I lingered there for a long time ... capturing the sunbeams as they slowly danced through the trees.

Though this shot isn't as dramatic as the earlier shots, I reveled in the color that slowly revealed itself ... in the contrast of light and shadow dappling the pavement ... and I stood there in the shade until the last sunbeam faded away.

I usually post only one picture of a location unless I change the field of view dramatically but for this shot I am making an exception to my own rule. This shot was another one I took during sunset at Dante’s View at Death Valley National Park. In the foreground is the Black mountain range and the mountains on the other side are the Panamint Range. The sun was setting over the Panamint and was lighting up the clouds with such beautiful colors, this had to be in the top 5 of the best sunsets I have ever witnessed.

Thanks for visiting and the encouraging words and faves..

Morning light at Serón

[This is a series of photos that I took while backpacking Torres del Paine. I tried to take as many photos as possible, but it rained so much more than I had ever anticipated, so it was not possible. Itt was extremely windy, so a combination of both rain and wind made it difficult to shoot while actually hiking.]

I didn’t know if these were any good. I just took as many shots as I could before the light faded.

Little did I know that more rain was in store for the next several days, and for the remainder of the trip I managed to take only half of what I took that day.

So, I am glad that I took this shot and that I was able to turn this into part of the mini series - Morning light at Serón.

The sunrise was beautiful on Monday but I didn't want to go out into the subzero temps. So I stood on a chair and shot through the icicles hanging from the eaves!

Happy Bokeh Wednesday!

Off to roller ice skate (sorry about that) in Chicago one last time before Rachel leaves tomorrow!!

On my recent trip up the coast, I went on a few photoshoots with Surfma ! She knows where all the cool spots are and has the best A++ rated Bed & Breakfast on the West Coast!

Happy Monday Folks!!

They open to and fro creating mirror images without a mirror. Arcs draw my eye - rectangles intersect - it just fascinates in a way that demands capture. Bold lines anchor all over and provide paths to investigate everything that is included in the frame. It lives in harmony.

The light changed every second, yet each frame captured a new kind of beauty. A fleeting moment, frozen in time, where motion and magic meet. ✨️

Chasing the fleeting sunlight in the enchanted forest in winter, Francis King Regional Park, Vancouver Island, BC.

A sunrise that reminded me why it’s always worth going out, even when the forecast says otherwise 🌅

I almost stayed home this morning. The weather didn’t look promising and the light felt like a gamble. But Llyn Padarn had other plans. Soft mist drifting over the water, perfect reflections, and a calm that wrapped around everything as the sky slowly came to life.

Standing here in the stillness, I felt a deep sense of peace and clarity. Moments like this can’t be predicted. They’re earned by showing up. Being out, waiting, trusting the process will always beat staying home wondering what if.

Sometimes the most perfect conditions are the ones you never expect.

I often crave the kind of quiet that only a misty autumn morning can bring you.

Rough seas and high waves give this gull an opportunity to cruise. Action, frozen in time gives my eye time to linger on details that usually rush by. Intricate shapes and patterns emerge. The energy of the subject is complimented by the high contrast and dynamic lines.
