There’s nothing quite like the drama of a summer storm. The scent of rain in the air, the sky boiling with color and light — it’s pure magic for photographers.

Every monsoon season, we head out to capture these incredible moments, In 2026, We’ll be exploring the Grand Canyon, Moab, and White Pocket during peak storm season, plus spending time among the saguaros in Tucson when the skies put on their best show.

If you’ve ever wanted to photograph the desert at its most alive, this is the season to do it.

My friend, Khurram, and I had planned to spend the morning photographing the Snowy Owl that had been hanging out on the Jersey shore. However, we arrived to the beach with super high tides that were cutting across the dunes! After a failed attempt at getting out there, we decided to run a couple hours away to a spot where I know a pair of Peregrine Falcons (Falco peregrinus) hang out. We raced the light as we tried to get there before it got too harsh, evading GSP troopers along the way. When we arrived, we found the pair hanging out at the top of a tall tree. We watched them for about 20 minutes before they both took off in a manner I have seen before...they were on the hunt! We lost sight of them for about a minute, and then we saw a small black speck appear. I put my bins on it and could make out the furious wing beats of the falcon as he flew towards us. As he got closer, I could tell he was carrying what appeared to be a blackbird or grackle. He flew over to his favorite perch and began to eat. The rest...well...you'll just have to see :)

Description: Chasing landscapes and rainbows this evening at deserted places in Germany's Emsland. Single shots from machine guns was a really romantic experience during this exploration. No wonder these signs saying "Halt Lebensgefahr!" were everywhere :).

Technique: Two different versions of Tone-Mapped images - strong and low contrast - were blend together in PS for further enhancements such as a Levels layer to slightly darken the overall scene and a custom Curve to introduce some extra global contrast as well.

A Selective Color layer was used to brighten the whites. For me this technique serves much more control then simply adjusting the overall temperature. I used Image > Apply Image... two times in separate layers, the first layer was used for luminous noise removal caused by the small camera sensor and the other for selectively sharpening the scene with the High Pass filter in Vivid Colors layer mode, which was masked out later to safe the background trees from sharpening halos. To finish off, a Hue/Saturation layer together with a Selective Color layer were used to mimic a Dark Salmon filter for the overall hue. See ya.

Little Darcy says a quick chase and a shag is much more fun than photography. Someone was taking lessons in peering into the mist.

Spent a bit of time wandering around in the fog today. I have a couple of locations reasonably local that I had planned to revisit when it came and today I headed for them. thing is last night I had been told that it would be around and as the day went on it would turn into low cloud, so I figured that if I started low and went high I would be able to spend most of the day in it. Oh how I was misled!!! Both locations didn’t pay off, and instead I drove around stopping when I found woods and fog! I had fun anyway, and I ended up at my local mountain biking track, where lucky I had my bike and gear in the car and I headed off to finish my day off with a muddy blast to blow off the frustrations of chasing the fog. Ironic that when I went past the first location that I had visited (this time on the bike and without camera) the conditions were getting better, but I chose to enjoy them instead of trying to chance them…

Transdev Keighley have this Mercedes Sprinter with a Evobus 18 seat body on demonstration for recently "won" Wharfedale services around Otley & Ilkley. It has been in Scotland and South Wales of late but has sat in the depot at Keighley for some days prior to use which isn't always a good sign. Firstgroup had a similar vehicle for these services a while back which lasted around 6 months before it gave in to the torture. Here it is operating the late running 963 service from Otley to the local hospital although with no working destination display and a famous partly hidden white A4 sheet of paper on the dash reading 962 you wouldn't necessarily know. The colour of the vehicle is horrendous to photograph with so many reflections it is almost not worth the effort although there is a fleetname there somewhere..

freshly new, and its mine...:D at last, my Dahlia starts to present me the new flower, can't resist myself to shot it!

its like the sun,

Here is the time lapse video from my 2024 storm chase. In case you don't know - a time lapse is made from multiple (in this case, thousands) of still images knitted together at approximately 30 frames per second. This allows you to speed up time, see the movement in the clouds and gives a completely different view of storms than still images (or even simple video)do. I hope you enjoy it!

In late May/early June 2024 I went storm chasing for the third time. If you'd like, you can read about my trip in the blog post on my website.

You can see all my storm chasing images from my 2017, 2018 and 2024 chases in this album.

I know. The rut is on and you can see bucks any time of day or night chasing a doe. But, your chances of a decent photo of a buck on the chase aren't very good. I'm still set up and waiting on first light to get a closer shot. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
