Isolating and insulating oneself from change only leads to inevitable obsolescence. Education today must realize that the social and cultural landscape is changing rapidly. Although there is a strong argument to be made for stability and reliability, it is also unwise to await the inevitable while resisting change. Being adaptable should be an attribute developed in all learners and embraced by education.

On May 9, 2022, The Delegation of the European Union to the United States marked Europe Day by awarding the first Transatlantic Bridge Award to three exceptional Americans for their contributions in fostering transatlantic relations and in supporting and embodying the values and ideals shared by the European Union and the United States.
The three awardees - José Andrés, Chef, Humanitarian and Founder of World Central Kitchen; Stephen Breyer, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States; and Deborah Rutter, President of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts - were honored at a Europe Day celebration held by the European Union Ambassador and the 27 EU Member State Ambassadors at the EU Residence in Washington, D.C.
“The unified allied response to Putin’s aggression in Ukraine has once again highlighted the enduring importance of the shared values of the transatlantic partnership,” said European Union Ambassador to the United States Stavros Lambrinidis. “Strong EU-U.S. relations are vital in addressing common global challenges. That’s why I am particularly happy to recognize with the first Transatlantic Bridge Award three exceptional Americans who have made invaluable contributions to the EU-U.S. relationship and to universal human rights and values.”
As a world-renowned chef, humanitarian and founder of World Central Kitchen, José Andrés personifies and serves as a shining example of the European Union’s core values. Feeding those most in need and creating culinary training programs to empower communities and strengthen economies, he and his team go above and beyond the call of duty in global disasters and emergencies. Today, they are on the frontlines of the war in Ukraine, delivering care and kindness in meals in the country and to those fleeing the war. As a European and as an American, he bridges the Atlantic through food, highlighting its importance nutritionally, socially, and culturally, and connecting it back to urgent global issues like climate change.
On the Supreme Court of the United States, Justice Breyer has been an ardent defender of judicial independence and the rule of law in democratic societies, embodying and fortifying cardinal European values as well. He has promoted a robust exchange of ideas between the Supreme Court and the European Court of Justice and has consistently and effectively encouraged transatlantic legal dialogue on key issues. In addition to his rule-of-law leadership domestically and internationally, he has argued forcefully against the constitutionality of the death penalty in the United States, consistent with the EU’s position of opposing capital punishment in its member countries and around the world.
Under Deborah Rutter’s leadership, the Kennedy Center has been an unwavering supporter of European artists, strengthening the EU’s “Kids Euro Fest” partnership in the United States, first established in 2008, hosting each year numerous EU Member State productions on the Millennium Stage, and showcasing many European ballet and contemporary dance companies in one of America’s pre-eminent cultural venues. She has attached high priority to welcoming DC school groups for EU-related workshops and, through The Reach, making cultural experiences accessible to all, regardless of economic status. With her support for fundamental values and for celebrating unity in cultural diversity - ideals that are also the bedrock of the EU itself and of the transatlantic relationship - she greatly contributes in enriching humanity long into the future.
Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the signing of the Schuman Declaration on May 9, 1950, which set out the idea for a new form of political and economic cooperation in Europe, and is considered the beginning of what is now the European Union.
Real change comes from within. In order to stop this cycle of madness, we need an evolution of consciousness.

My dad changing a tire on his 1922 Dodge Business Coupe. He carried a leather case with a large set of tools. This was probably taken before I was born, but it was the first car I drove. The spare looks to be a new Goodyear.
As I recall, these tires were 32 x 3+. The car had only rear wheel brakes. I remember Dad telling me some tires lasted onlty 5,000 miles.

Alma regrets not having touched the person she loves, but, perhaps it was better this way, by being together she would have missed the kiss which was seeking her.
Two people who were not destined to be together. One gesture which changes everything. Two potential love stories, the image narrates some of the facts and the sound others.
I watched you change

I looked away
You were on fire
I watched a change in you
It's like you never had wings

Climate Corporate Governance for Financial Institutions - Building resilience to climate change risk
During the past decade, with extreme weather causing hundreds of USD billions of
losses per year and the changing climate intensifying the adverse effects of wasteful

Financial regulators and the European Union are responding with recommendations

So I decided to make some more camera changes. Selling the 50Ds, replacing them with (eventually) a pair of 1D MkIIIs, with a 1D MkIIN backup
The first MkIII arrived today, and I'm enjoying it a lot. The 1Ds just feel better in my hands than the camera+grip combos I've been using.
I'm also selling my last EF-S lens, so all of my lenses will be usable on APS-H and full frame cameras.
My new 12-24 Sigma also showed up (12-24 on full-frame, no less), so I'll now have a 12-24, a 24 1.4, a 24-105, a 70-200 and 1.4x and 2x converters, plus a walkaround 28-300.
Eventually, I might finally be done buying camera gear. I doubt it, but it's possible. :)
I changed the rear of the turret, after shortening the whole thing by one stud (good suggestion, Tim, it looks better), and reworked the storage area into an enclosed blow-out compartment. I think it works better.
This is a photograph from the start of the Tullamore Harriers AC "Quinlan Cup" Half Marathon which was held on Saturday 26th August 2017 in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland at 11:00. This is the fifth year of the event. The race is organised and promoted by Tullamore Harriers AC. The race starts on the Charleville Road just outside the entrance to Tullamore Harriers. The race proceeds south along the R421 and onto the N52 before taking a route onto local back roads. The race then completes a large rural road route before it joins to the R421 again and the final 1.5 miles are the same as the first mile of the race. The runners enter Tullamore stadium and complete one lap of the tartan track before the finish line. The course is challenging in places with some undulations along the route. But overall it is fair course. 2013 seen the first year of the event as the club commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the formation of Tullamore Harriers AC which today is one of Ireland's best known athletics clubs.
We have a large set of photographs from the start and the finish of today's race on our Flickr Photostream: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157685695893933
The race was chip timed by MyRunResults - their website is www.myrunresults.com
The race was perfectly organised. The weather was good for racing but there was warm summer weather for the entire race which made for warmer than usual running conditions There were stewarts all along the route, 3 drink stations with bottled water, superb facilities, and great after-race refreshments. The stewards along the route provided great encouragement to all of the runners. Tullamore Harriers and the local community really worked together to make this is a wonderful event. There was also a relay option where teams of two can run approximately 10.5km each.
As mentioned above this race half marathon started in 2013 and celebrated the 60th Anniversary (a Diamond Anniversary) of the foundation of Tullamore Harriers AC. The club was formed in the town in November 1953. However, it was almost 1979 before facilities close to what we see today open in the present day site. Over 50 provincial and national athletics meetings are held at Tullamore Harriers every year. The facilities available combined with it's central geographical location joining routes from North, South, East, and West make it a very attractive venue. The half marathon today firmly brings competitive national road racing back to "The Harriers". The Quinlan Cup which will be awarded to the winning club team. For more than 40 years the Harriers Quinlan Cup was the most prestigious event on the road racing calendar. Having started as a cross-country race back in 1957, it became a road race in 1967 and remained so until 2000 when the race was last held. During its reign as a blue-ribband event the Quinlan Cup was won by the likes of John Treacy and Eamonn Coughlan.
Today, the facilities at Tullamore Harriers are the envy of many athletics clubs in Ireland. The facilities provided by Tullamore make it one of the premier venues for local and national level athletics in Ireland. There is an Olympic standard tartan track, a fully equipped gym, changing facilities, press and media facilities, meeting room spaces, etc. The club also provides a social center and niteclub which makes "The Harriers" a very well known on the local social scene. Esssentially, the town of Tullamore would be a different place if it weren't for the presence of Tullamore Harriers AC.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

White stuff blankets Black Friday in Vicenza, Italy, Nov. 26. The USAG Vicenza community woke to the first snowfall of the season, but families out shopping for Black Friday specials, returning 173rd Airborne soldiers, civilians and all found services closing at noon in response. By early afternoon the snow had changed over to rain, and post services were up and running on regular schedules again on Saturday.

"Mudanças. Nós não gostamos delas. Nós a tememos. No entanto, não conseguimos evitá-las. Ou nos adaptamos às mudanças, ou somos deixados para trás. Crescer é doloroso. Qualquer um que te disser que não, está mentindo. Mas aqui vai a verdade: às vezes, quanto mais as coisas mudam, mais elas permanecem as mesmas. E às vezes mudar é bom. Às vezes mudar é tudo."
Novo ano e grandes mudanças já acontecendo. Boa sorte pra mim e um 2011 de sucesso a todos!
