"Of freedom and of pleasure

Nothing ever lasts forever

Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you

Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down

When they do I'll be right behind you"

I can't stand this indecision

Married with a lack of vision

Everybody wants to rule the world

Say that you'll never never never never need it

One headline why believe it?

Everybody wants to rule the world

A clump of aspens has started changing color.

We went back to try and shoot some more of Change Creek Falls. We were successful in getting to a spot where we could get a good view of this part of the waterfall. According to the Northwest Waterfall Survey, the falls drop a total of 345 feet in nine tiers. This is one of the lower tiers.

(101/366) I brought back 2 more stones from the Hook peninsula in Wexford to add to my collection of "lucky stones" on the mantelpiece (the flat yellow one left of centre & the purple one behind it). I've 24 in total now, all from beaches in Ireland. They don't seem to be bringing me much good luck lately but hopefully that will change soon & a new buyer for our house will come along. I swear everytime I post something its related to some stupid change which has occured. Ugh. The last of the MRL locomotives have finally been removed from mainline service due to BNSF PTC going live. How ironic that the MRL was actually who began this PTC project but in the end became the victim. It's truly a waste as all 5 GP35's are likely sidelined but at the very least unable to lead trains any longer. Over the last few years of its existence the MRL spent over $500,000 to upgrade all 6 GP35's with a complete rewire and upgrade of the control system. MRL 405 has an easy tell by the red antennae right behind the cab. A close eye will also reveal the MRL 404 has been completed, as the class lights it wore its entire career have been removed and tastefully patched during the rewire. This was all done in house by MRL employees, not contractors. Now, who knows what will happen to them? Always thought they were pretty neat units who didn't seem to be very popular elsewhere but for the most part were very good workhorses in local service across Montana.

Something for Nothing by RUSH:

Waiting for the winds of change,

To sweep the clouds away,

Waiting for the rainbow's end,

To cast its gold your way,

Countless ways,

You pass the days.

Waiting for someone to call,

And turn your world around,

Looking for an answer,

To the question you have found,

Looking for,

An open door.

You don't get something for nothing,

You can't have freedom for free,

You won't get wise,

With the sleep still in your eyes,

No matter what your dreams might be.

What you own is your own kingdom,

What you do is your own glory,

What you love is your own power,

What you live is your own story,

In your head is the answer,

Let it guide you along,

Let your heart be the anchor,

And the beat of your song.

Sunset on Lake Quannapowitt happened quickly with fast moving clouds and lighting. The setting sun on these golden branches made them appear red.

♫ I see the sky changing

Reminds me of my changing

Wish I could tie me a rope 'round the sun

'Cause I am not done changing

Time's been talking to me

Whispering in my ear

Saying "Follow your heart

'Til it tears you apart"

But hearts keep changing

Hearts keep changing ♫

A different Holiday season... one with social distancing and connections using Zoom, Skype etc... (for those lucky enough to have access to technology).

We should take this time to reconnect to ourselves... to listen to that inner voice, the one that we dismiss so easily...

We should find gratitude for what we have and take time to be present... be true to ourselves and to what makes us happy...

Never forget that sometimes it's difficult, sometimes it's a struggle...

Change is not difficult, change is natural, we just don't like it and we resist it because it takes us out of our comfort zone.

The driver of 150270 changes ends at Penarth station ready to run back towards Cardiff. I had hoped to grab a 769 here but both trains to arrive during my brief visit were Class 150's. 2K04 18:48 Penarth to Caerphilly.

After charging in the creek after salmon and missing on several swats, this lad decided to take a moment and reevaluate his fishing style…while also contemplating switching over to eating old fat Italian guys!

From the archives and taken on 28 July, 2019 at Katmai National Park, Alaska.

Having just sheltered from a passing squall in Charlie's Cave near Sunnyside Beach in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the sun came back out and I took a moment to dry off a bit and get this image. Just west of this location is Logie Head and after that point, the rocks much more resemble the ones around Portknockie. Here the rock structure is more like that found at Sandend. The change is so sudden and distinct.

For many years, the right side was 'up', and left was 'down'. Then the tree fell, and the direction of growth changed ninety degrees.

Pockets of air, and small stones, beneath the ice at the edge of the reservoir.

The colours changed as sunrise approached, no tidal pools but rippled sand added texture. Just before sunrise on my local beach.

Santa Ifigenia Cemetery (Spanish: Cementerio Santa Ifigenia) is a cemetery in Santiago de Cuba and resting place of a few notable Cubans inluding Fidel Castro.

The cemetery opened in 1868 to replace smaller Cemetery of Santa Ana.[1]

The signature resting place is that of José Martí, whose mausoleum is guarded by three Cuban soldiers at the entrance. A round-the-clock guard of the mausoleum is changed, amid much pomp and ceremony, every 30 minutes.

It's been too hard living

But I'm afraid to die

'Cause I don't know what's up there

Beyond the sky

It's been a long

A long time coming, but I know

A change gon' come

Doc and I stood watching a busy beaver prepare for winter, as he swam between his lodge and the trees that lined his pond. In this photo you can see his wake in the water, and his head between the trees on the left.

I thought that this delightful poem by Del Ray told the story of beaver life in Alaska perfectly . . .

There’s a trail no one walks in the forest

that’s lined with a quilt of leaves,

webbed feet of the largest rodent*

scamper as fallen trees grieve.

Trees wilt with the sound of gnawing,

as wolves in the distance, howl,

and moose clamber over rocks fallen,

while wildcats stalk prey as they growl.

The beavers are content with their chewing,

they gather and chew chew chew,

not like old steam engines of trains

that chug through the valleys of dew.

They chew through the aspen and birch,

those beavers take down the sweet maple;

they gather the twigs and the branches,

that’s fodder on their muddy table.

And quietly in their spiky lodge,

their kits, as cute as they are,

they plan their dam of destruction

under the shiny north star,

reminding the race of humans,

we’re not the only ones chopping down trees,

they weren’t just meant to be hats,

like us they have families and needs.

So beavers keep growing and gnawing

through the winter as snowflakes fall,

yet seeds of change will soon sprout

in the spring, when song birds call.

Being able to walk the shoreline nearly every day provides an enlightening perspective on natural cycles of change.

I don't think it's good for our mental health to grow up in a world of static flat rectangles. It disconnects us from the spirit of the universe.
