I took the original photo of the Amish Buggy in the snowstorm. I might upload it one day. Just fooling around with textures for now.

Change is vivid; change is exciting; change can be overwhelming. When life transforms, it is easy to get lost in thoughts. As time goes by, they become patterns and slowly but steadily, part of who the “I” thinks to be. Thus, not only life changes but our personality and perception do as well – creating a new reality.

That is extraordinary challenging. Nobody can secure that the paths we choose in life are not just appealing but also appropriate. Sometimes, this pulls the rug out from under our feet. It leaves us with a feeling of helplessness, isolation, and struggle. Falling into a black hole and losing countenance. Sooner or later, we get carried away.

The temptation to find an escape for that suggests itself. We are clinging to what we believe is the only thing left: The past – a reminder of how we had seen substantiality. So we glorify it since, in contrast to the now and the future, we at least know what we had. But truth becomes distorted over time, and this makes us believe in a reality that never really existed. One that does not base on our well being. Otherwise, we would not have decided in favor of a change. A reality that is somewhat based on others than on us.

But when making decisions, we take responsibility for nobody but ourselves. It is better to sacrifice than to be sacrificed. Accordingly, we should take matters in our hands. A phrase that everybody loves to chatter, but it is easier said than done. We believe to not depend on whatever else forms our reality but us – but often, we do not act like that. By this means, we get across a screwed way of life and exemplify an ideal that we will always fail to live. Eventually, we permit this to dictate how we can experience joy.

We will never manage to break through this disillusioning vicious circle if we don’t find the courage to become our own master. We cannot blame anyone else for the world we are in or for whom we allowed entering but us. And as hard this central recognition might be, the more liberating the moment of freeing will become.

There is one constant in life, time. Check out the former Milwaukee Road sign on the bridge, the ex-ATSF Geep. And fast forward to today...nothing. One wonders if Art bowed his head, thinking back to the “good ole days” of railroading, as he worked many years for the Milwaukee.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

Tomorrow is Election Day in my country. I pray and hope we choose the right leaders and bring the change much needed. Inshallah.

In the past couple months I have grown an increasing love for film photography, you can bet that’s what this account is going to turn into. Taken on the streets of Chicago on my Canon AL-1, this was one of those grab and go shots I snagged while walking to Ogilvie so i’m not too sure where this was. Sure was a neat sign, not sure how the beer tastes though.

"There's something in the wind

I can feel it blowing in

It's coming in softly

On the wings of a bomb

There's something in the wind

I can feel it blowing in

It's coming in hotly

And it's coming in strong

Lately I've been thinking it's just someone else's job to care

Who am I to sympathize when no one gave a damn

I've been thinking it's just someone else's job to care but who am I to wanna try but

Change is a powerful thing

People are powerful beings

Trying to find the power in me to be faithful

Change is a powerful thing

I feel it coming in me

Maybe by the time this song is done

I will be able

To be honest, capable

Of holding you in my arms without letting you fall

When I don't feel beautiful and stable

Maybe it's enough to just be where we are because

Everytime that we run

We don't know what it's from

Now we finally slow down

We feel close to it

There's a change gonna come

I don't know where or when

But whenever it does

We'll be here for it"

I had this idea of morphing one Milliband brother into the other for this month's theme, but I got lazy. So here are some turning leaves instead.

Still not having much luck with the PX100. This whole pack had blotches that appeared in random places. Anyone knows why?

We visited Mammoth Hot Springs 30 years ago. It is quite amazing to see how much they had changed. Such a special and unique place.

I finally broke down and ordered a crystal ball (I've been wanting to forever after looking at some gorgeous photos by my friends Vicki and Terri). Can't wait to play!

August 2012 Monthly Scavenger Hunt entry - "An interesting perspective"

So far 2014 has been a frustrating year. Physically, at work & in my personal life - all have experienced unwanted change. My reluctance to accept them just compounds my unhappiness and does nothing to improve the issues.

I see more changes coming. I would like to move forward, adapt and influence the new directions. I guess that choice is up to me.

Picking out the best of the rest on a rainy day. Think the downpours we have been getting last 24 hrs may finish a few of these off. Maybe a few had already layed their eggs, If so we will soon have caterpillars..

A little bit of pain

And a little bit of pleasure

Is enough to make me never say never.

Been wanting to take pics with her for a while now... really happy it finally happened! I'm really loving this shoot :)

I've been spending too much time in the Wild man and Dayglo's photostreams. Not that I'm saying this measures up to those lofty heights, mind. Just that I've been brainwashed so that light like this on a building makes my pulse race!

I also had a dabble with a version where I corrected the distortion so all the vertical lines were parallel, but it made the diagonals look unnatural and uncomfortable to me.

brilliant.

So, after spending the day shopping, I went home to change for the evenings meet up with the girls.

With all the recent flurry of photos of the final trains to run on this unaltered single track stretch if street running I figured I'd edit up a few more from last summer's pilgrimage since I couldn't make it for the last runs.

Those who follow my photography know that two favorite rail subjects I seek out all over are 'Freight Under Wire' and 'Trains Where Trains Shouldn't Be' (aka street running). Well in Michigan City, Indiana you can do both at once.. I was fortunate to make this happen for the first time last year but alas then it was only light power and a freight against the light.

This time I got the holy grail of an eastbound freight in the morning!

So I'm gonna post a few of these just because before returning to the rest of the shots of this chase.

Having dropped most of their train at Bailey Yard in Burns Harbor, original CSSB GP38-2s 2003 and 2000 from the ten unit order delivered by EMD during the Chessie System ownership era have a dozen or so in two headed east toward the Carroll Ave. shops. They are seen rolling through the Wabash Street intersection as they make their way down the middle of 11th Street near MP 34.1 on the South Shore mainline.

Alas scenes like this are on borrowed time which was my impetus for returning so soon. If you want these iconic shots you better come quick because a massive nearly half billion dollar project to double track the line all the way to Michigan City in order to shave 30 or more minutes off transit times and allow greater train frequencies is supposed to start construction soon. This will lamentably lead to the end of street running and the removal of nearly all the homes and structures on the south side of 11th street (though the one pictured here on the north side should survive). In fact, many more than last year were already bought up and either already demolished or boarded up with big no trespassing project signs on them. And of course the downtown midstreet passenger stop on 11th street has already closed so the line already felt different than 11 months prior. To learn more check out the project web site and the detailed PPT presentation on the project: www.doubletrack-nwi.com/images/DT_PRS_DTVirtualOpenHouse_...

But change is the only constant in life, and the CSSB has been modernizing and rebuilding since the Insull era. In fact in 1956 the long section of street running in East Chicago was bypassed and in 1970 the street running into downtown South Bend was abandoned...so I suppose this is just a continuation of what has come before.

Week 1/52, 2017

This week’s theme for my 52 project is “the times they are a changin,” the Bob Dylan song. My year started with the flu and an unplanned hospital stay, which is why I’ve been off Flickr for the last few weeks. I was put on isolation unable to leave my hospital room for almost a week. With limited options, I took this picture from my hospital room window. I liked the clouds and I processed it to give it a cold, winterish look. I felt like the clouds and light gave it the look of coming change.

Have a wonderful day, everyone...

I'd like to dedicate this shot to Bill Baldridge www.flickr.com/photos/cherokee_bill/ he has a way of making the old and rusty look like beautiful works of art. Thank you Bill for the kind testimonial you wrote for me.

Mt. Lowe's trail is like an outdoor history museum and is wonderful for the hiker who wants to see the ruins of what was a fabulous resort hotel in the 1890s and early 20th century.

Engineers built a cable railway system elevating riders up this part of the San Gabriel Mountains when Pasadena was a small winter haven for midwesterners who celebrated every January 1 with a small parade of carriages decorated with roses!
