The Mental Well-Being of the Next Generation: How We Can Support Young People’s Mental Health Amid Multiple Existential Threats

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated an existing mental health crisis, particularly among children and young people. The emergence of “climate anxiety,” new and ongoing international conflicts, and widespread use of technology have added to the stressors impacting our youth across the globe. A study last year estimated that one in seven children and adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa have experienced significant psychological challenges, and almost 10 percent qualify for a psychiatric diagnosis. Overdose rates among teens in the United States are on the rise. Youth are facing cultural and infrastructural challenges – from stigma in seeking help to barriers in accessing support – in finding the tools and treatment they need.
This session will explore:
•How can organizations take action to directly support the mental health of young people in their communities and around the world?
•How can we develop and implement effective models for delivering mental health care in schools, clinics, and community settings?
•How can we leverage technology – which has exacerbated much of the mental health crisis among today’s youth – to reduce stigma and give youth easier access to support and treatment?

After decades of progress for women around the globe, there has been a stark reversal of this trend in recent years. Governments around the globe are rolling back rights once taken for granted. Global crises – from the COVID-19 pandemic to climate change – are landing disproportionately on women, in particular women of color and LGBTQ+ communities, and jeopardizing shared gains in economic prosperity and social stability.
Although these setbacks are real, collective action can prevent them from becoming permanent. There are more tools and opportunities than ever before for women across the globe to access education. I think that AI image generation is similar in many ways to photography. The camera itself handles all the fine details, but the photographer is in charge of curating the types of images that will be created.
Ultimately, it is all about maximizing the probability that something good will be created.
This is very similar to AI image generation, in terms of the skills involved and what the human does vs. what the machine does.
You can't compare AI image generation to the process of actually making these images from scratch with 3D software or paint/pencils, where the human controls every detail.
However, I think the process really is very similar to that of photography, as I made the case for above.

why am I selling?
I am now planning a long and life changing journey, so I am selling the loved and lovely items
that are not extremely essential. For the money I will get from this camera I will be able to make
a piece of art work along the way. Or I will be able to study Yoga for a week, or I will be able to
print ten to twenty 8x10 photographs while on the journey and have a small pop-up exhibition.
Or I will be able to take a train 1/2 across India in 3rd class, packed like sardines.
I am planning to take a Teacher Training Course in Yoga and study Traditional Thai Massage.
After years of extremely intensive work on my career I want to have something to give back.
Focusing on your career leaves often little time to be there for others. I need to make £2500
to pay for the courses and flight. The whole trip and change in path will be £3500 for 5 months,
turning life around and starting fresh.

O Comitê Gestor da Internet no Brasil (CGI.br) dá sequência às comemorações de seus 20 anos com a nona conferência guiada por seu decálogo de princípios para a governança e uso da Internet.
O princípio "Governança Democrática e Colaborativa" foi dividido em dois painéis. O primeiro, “Experiências Brasil e Itália” foi mediado por Virgilio Almeida, coordenador do CGI.br e apresentado por Juan Carlos de Martin, Professor de Engenharia da Computação no Instituto Politécnico de Torino e um dos fundadores e diretores do NEXA Center for Internet & Society; Veridiana Alimonti, advogada e conselheira suplente do CGI.br, Carlos Alberto Afonso, um dos pioneiros no desenvolvimento da Internet no Brasil e conselheiro do CGI.br e Ronaldo Lemos, diretor-fundador do Instituto de Tecnologia & Sociedade do Rio de Janeiro (ITS Rio), Diretor do projeto Creative Commons no Brasil e Membro do Conselho de Administração da Fundação Mozilla.
O segundo painel, sobre o tema "Governança Democrática e Colaborativa" foi mediado por Flávio Wagner, membro do CGI.br eleito pela Comunidade Científica e Tecnológica e debatido por Stefano Rodotá, professor de Direito da Universidade de Roma e Presidente do Conselho de Administração da Universidade de Torino; Markus Kummer, diplomata suíço que também já foi Coordenador Executivo do Secretariado de apoio ao Fórum de Governança da Internet (IGF); e Urs Gasser, diretor executivo do Centro para Internet e Sociedade de Berkman na Universidade de Harvard.
A conferência foi realizada no dia 09 de novembro de 2015, no Tropical Hotel Tambaú, em João Pessoa.

LEVELING THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER: HOW TO FORGE INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS IN HARD TO REACH PLACES
We have never had more knowledge about or better treatment options for cancer. However, despite these incredible medical advances, cancer continues to claim the lives of more than ten million people each year, in part because these lifesaving treatments are not equitably available to all populations. Mortality rates are declining in the wealthiest countries while lower- to middle-income countries are seeing increased rates of cancer without access to the latest breakthroughs in modern oncology to treat patients. While limited resources are a concern, there are opportunities for wiser investments and increased coordination and partnerships between governments, health policy analysts, and community organizations to begin to bridge the care gap and bring lifesaving treatments to underserved populations and communities.
