BREAKFAST SESSION

Still Unfinished Business: How We Can Improve Economic Outcomes for Women

8:00 - 9:15 a.m. ET

Location: Gramercy West

The COVID-19 pandemic magnified existing gender inequalities at work and at home. Women were especially vulnerable to employment and income losses and the increasing burden of unpaid work, threatening to reverse decades of progress expanding women’s economic opportunity. The digital gender gap, which has barely improved over the last decade, has further hindered women’s ability to acquire skills and access online employment and financial services. Closing the gaps between men and women in the workplace could increase the global GDP by 26 percent, benefiting both advanced and developing countries, and many of the tools needed to build inclusive economies exist. This session will discuss actions to support gender parity, including policies and programs that support women’s employment, leadership opportunities, recognition of unpaid work, and efforts to close the digital gender divide.

This session will explore:

•How can we reduce the gender imbalance in unpaid work to support those who need care and those who provide care—from fiscal policies that support employment and protect incomes to family-friendly childcare and flexible work policies?

•How do we scale progress in key areas, including financial and digital inclusion, women’s leadership and representation, and pay parity?

•How do other interventions in gender equality—including addressing girls’ education, violence against women, and maternal health—improve economic outcomes for women?

Speakers:

•Temie Giwa-Tubosun, CEO and Founder, LifeBank

•Robin Wright, Co-Founder, Pour Les Femmes Foundation

•Vanessa Roanhorse, CEO, Roanhorse Consulting

•Cherie Blair, CBE QC, Founder, Cherie Blair Foundation for Women

• Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary of State

•Kathy Hochul, Governor, New York State

•Olivia Walton, Founder & Managing Partner, Ingeborg Investments

•Maria Teresa Kumar, Founding President and CEO, Voto Latino

Poser figure rendered in Bryce. Some images I produced using a mixture of Lightwave 3D, Bryce 3D and Poser software.

Poser is a 3D computer graphics software designed for creating and rendering animated characters and scenes. It was first developed by the company Fractal Design in the mid-1990s, and has since gone through several different owners, including MetaCreations, Curious Labs, Smith Micro, and most recently, Bondware.

Poser is known for its ability to create lifelike human and animal figures, and for its large library of pre-made 3D models and poses. It allows users to manipulate these models and poses to create custom animations and scenes, which can be rendered as still images or animated videos.

Over the years, Poser has evolved to include a wide range of features and tools, including improved character modeling and rigging, advanced lighting and shading options, and support for third-party plugins and add-ons.

Poser has been used for a variety of applications, including film and video production, game development, advertising, and digital art. It is particularly popular among independent animators and small studios who are looking for an affordable and flexible 3D animation solution.

Despite its popularity, Poser has also faced criticism over the years for its sometimes clunky interface and limited support for advanced features. However, the software continues to have a dedicated user base and is still actively developed and supported by its current owner, Bondware.

PLENARY SESSION

"Once and For All"

4:30 - 6:00 p.m. ET

Location: Grand Ballroom

After decades of progress for women around the globe, there has been a stark reversal of this trend in recent years. Governments around the globe are rolling back rights once taken for granted. Global crises – from the COVID-19 pandemic to climate change – are landing disproportionately on women, in particular women of color and LGBTQ+ communities, and jeopardizing shared gains in economic prosperity and social stability.

Although these setbacks are real, collective action can prevent them from becoming permanent. There are more tools and opportunities than ever before for women across the globe to access education. Studies show women are outperforming men in the classroom, and businesses recognize that their talent pool is increasingly female. Women are gaining roles in leadership positions, while women-owned businesses receive more investment than ever before. Yet critical work remains to restore and advance this progress, with actions for all to contribute. This session will explore how a new wave of female leadership is poised to fight these threats to everyone’s rights and prosperity, and, once and for all, codify a world where women’s rights are human rights.

Speakers:

Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary of State

Chelsea Clinton, Vice Chair, Clinton Foundation

Marinel S. Ubaldo, Advocacy Officer for Ecological Justice and Youth Engagement, Living Laudato Si' Philippines

Prof. Agnes Binagwaho, Vice Chancellor, University of Global Health Equity

LEVELING THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER: HOW TO FORGE INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS IN HARD TO REACH PLACES

We have never had more knowledge about or better treatment options for cancer. However, despite these incredible medical advances, cancer continues to claim the lives of more than ten million people each year, in part because these lifesaving treatments are not equitably available to all populations. Mortality rates are declining in the wealthiest countries while lower- to middle-income countries are seeing increased rates of cancer without access to the latest breakthroughs in modern oncology to treat patients. While limited resources are a concern, there are opportunities for wiser investments and increased coordination and partnerships between governments, health policy analysts, and community organizations to begin to bridge the care gap and bring lifesaving treatments to underserved populations and communities.

SPOTLIGHT SESSION

A Fast and Fair Clean Energy Transition: How We Can Unlock Capital for Climate Mitigation in an Equitable and Just Way

2:30 - 4:00 p.m. ET

Location: Murray Hill West

To reach net zero global emissions by 2050 and avert the worst impacts of climate change, the world will need to deploy clean energy technologies much more rapidly. This will require a massive surge in public and private investment across mature, clean technologies and early-stage and breakthrough solutions. Support for clean energy innovation and transition is especially critical for emerging and developing economies as they try to reconcile poverty alleviation and economic growth with global decarbonization goals. Proven strategies – from investment in local research and innovation to knowledge and technology transfer – can help countries advance cleantech solutions tailored to their specific needs and take the lead in determining their own energy future.

This session will explore:

•How can the public and private sectors work together to unlock capital for innovation and create markets for new clean technologies and businesses?

•How can we fund and strengthen local energy innovation ecosystems in emerging and developing economies?

•How can we center equity and justice in deep decarbonization efforts?

Speakers:

•Ani Dasgupta, President and CEO, World Resources Institute

•Sumant Sinha, Chairman & CEO, Renew Energy Global Plc

•Patricia Espinosa, Ambassador, Former Executive Secretary to the UNFCCC, and Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico

•Katie Rae, CEO & Managing Partner, The Engine

•Salma Okonkwo, Founder, Blue Power Energy

•Hemant Taneja, CEO, General Catalyst

•Chris Sacca, Founder, Lowercarbon Capital

•Guillermo Lasso, President, Republic of Ecuador

•Rolando González-Bunster, Chairman & CEO, Interenergy

Here's me being all arty with my Maclaren P1 at the Yas Marinas circuit.

and Instructional sock (R).

I am the sort of ‘entertainment manager’, one of my jobs, finding downloadable films with dragons, spaceships, aliens, and CGI, with lots of flashing lights and colours, basically enough razzmatazz to keep us awake. I don’t see anyone else, other than 'Hem Binnen', and am quite happy with that. We have a contented life, other than my annoyance at the way I write, my own archness and pretensions. Perhaps I can squidge all that into a corner as I continue.

My short-term memory seems to be going too, could be age, could be the disease itself, or could be the drugs for the same. It is what it is. Seeing that I have always corresponded, I do seem to have this backlog of written memories to call on, but I think I ‘remember’ more through re-reading rather than actually remembering. I suspect that might give me a handy ‘once remove’, that feeling as to not quite knowing who all this actually happened to. I found aspects of that in your Ptolemy. I think it’s all part of the ageing process, accelerated or not.

I liked ‘Bladerunner 2049’ and hated ‘Call me by your name’. I don’t get Mr. Chalamet at all, or the other actor either, that one who has since been cancelled for, purportedly, fantasising about having sex with corpses. I did like Mr. Chalamet’s father in the film though, but have preferred him in other roles where I have actually enjoyed the film.

‘Do be doing’ is indeed wondrous, I like that Sinatra connection. I remember using it, in childhood, “No I didn’t see ‘Mr. Ed’, or the price of heifers (Mart and Market) after ‘The Angelus’, (on tele) last night, I do be doing me homework at that time”, that sort of thing. An Irish writer would now be strangled for using the likes of that talk, I think, cod-Irish would not be appreciated, what with the Celtic Tiger and all that new sophistication ushered in by the Eurovision mid-competition act, which gave us back our self-respect, and all that palaver. But it is how I spoke then and bugger the begrudgers, I say. My aunty Therese, may she rest in peace, bought me the DVD of that Flatley chap, because she knew I had missed it, being then domiciled in Manhattan, and she thought it was important. I loved her for that. I didn’t love Mr. Flatley’s stormtroopers though. You could see how fascism might catch on so easily, the allure of those raised arms, and all that springing and striding forward in unison.

Do be do be do

Exchanging glances

Do be do be do

What were the chances?

Do be do be do

We’d be making love before the night was through

Do be do be do,

We’re strangers in the night

(all together now).

As an aside, I do recommend these instructional socks. They are a handy way to help you not to confuse your left with your right in these latter day befuddlement years.

Did someone say arch?

"As we have conclusive evidence that the breeds of the Pigeon are descended from a single wild species, I compared the young pigeons within twelve hours after being hatched. I carefully measured the proportions (but will not here give the details) of the beak, width of mouth, length of nostril and of eyelid, size of feet and length of leg, in the wild parent species, in pouters, fantails, runts, barbs, DRAGONS, carriers, and tumblers."
