This image captures a portion of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000), known as the Cygnus Wall. This star-forming region is primarily composed of hydrogen and sulfur gas and spans approximately 20 light-years in length, situated roughly 1500 light-years away from Earth.

The captivating colors, intricate textures, and distinct shapes within this area serve as a reminder that Nature’s artistry is evident throughout the vast expanse of creation. Whether it’s in the smallest details or the grandest structures, taking the time to pause and observe these wonders allows us to appreciate the beauty that often goes unnoticed amidst our hectic lives.

An Apsara is a female spirit of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist culture. They figure prominently in the sculpture, dance, literature and painting of many South Asian and Southeast Asian cultures.

There are two types of apsaras; laukika (worldly), of whom thirty-four are specified, and daivika (divine), of which there are ten. Among them, Urvasi, Menaka, Rambha, Tilottama and Ghritachi are the most famous.

Within the Keck Foundation Central Rotunda is Griffith Observatory's greatest artistic treasure, the Hugo Ballin Murals. The Ballin ceiling mural celebrates classical celestial mythology, with images of Atlas, the four winds, the planets as gods, and the twelve constellations of the zodiac.

This photo was taken by a Kowa/SIX medium format film camera and a KOWA 1:3.5/55mm lens with a Kowa L1A ø67 filter using Kodak Portra 800 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

An Apsara dancer performs at an ancient temple in the jungle. Apsaras - celestial maidens in Hindu and Buddhist mythology - were believed to entertain gods and bless kings at the peak of the Khmer Empire (9th-15th Century). Their graceful movements are immortalized in the intricate carvings of Angkor Wat, Bayon, and Banteay Srei. The dance almost went extinct during the Khmer Rouge regime when artists and performers were targeted and 90% of classical dancers perished during this horrific period. Thanks to the singular efforts of Queen Sisowath Kossamak, the Apsara dance was revived and is now a symbol of Cambodian identity and recognized as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in 2003.

One day I realized two celestial goddesses were celebrating their reunion in my living room... Sybarites Dawnstar and Faun

I learned from CNN this morning that the configuration of Jupiter, Venus and the Moon as shown is a relatively rare occurence.

So although I didn't travel with a tripod, I tried my best to steady the camera for this long exposure.....not the best, but it beats missing the shot.

Sedona's Mitten Ridge sits below the Milky Way with a blooming agave spicing up the foreground. The landscape portion of this scene was taken during the blue hour, while the night sky was taken approximately two hours later (with the camera remaining on the tripod) and masked in via photoshop.

This is a narrowband SHO image of the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888), an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus about 5000 light years from earth. The strong Oxygen III light helps the nebula stand out in the large nebulous region of gas and dust constituting a portion of the Northern Cross.

Slightly above and to the right of the Crescent Nebula in this image is the interesting Soap Bubble Nebula, a small, recently discovered planetary nebula. It looks like a semi-transparent blue bubble. Discovered by an amateur astronomer in 2008, it has been catalogued as PN G75.5+1.7.

This SHO image uses SII, Ha, and OIII narrowband filters. Each filter was captured for a duration of 120 minutes using a Williams Optics Zenithstar 73 telescope and an ASI294MM Pro camera, resulting in a total of 6 hours of imaging. The images were then processed using Pixinsight and Photoshop. The image was captured from Rockwood, Texas under Bortle 1 skies.

So, this photo ended up being very technical to put together. First of all, the base photo is a vertical panorama made out of 30 individual photos.

After that, I overlayed the meteors I captured during the nights of August 12 and 13 to represent the shooting stars I saw during this trip.

This was taken at the road to the Chisos Mountains Basin in Big Bend National Park.
