Innenhof Passauer Straße mit Schlüsselloch ähnlicher Rahmung des Himmels.
Courtyard Passauer Straße with keyhole like framing of the sky.
Description: A dramatic low-angle monochrome perspective capturing a sea of altocumulus clouds breaking across the horizon. The graphic silhouette of the treeline anchors the overwhelming texture and motion of the Sky, Clouds and Trees above
Star trails in the Pilliga, north-western New South Wales, Australia. Sixty-eight fifteen sec exposures merged in Photoshop. I have not tried to edit out the plane or comet trails. The lighter areas are where there are high densities of stars in the Milky Way and where the Magellanic clouds are located.
The Pilliga is the largest inland forest in Australia. It is quite sparsely populated so star viewing is wonderful. Nearby is the world renowned Siding Spring astronomical observatory.
Taken at Pilliga Pottery, a working farm with a pottery studio and accommodation for tourists.
Thanks for visiting. I am very grateful for the kind comments and faves.

At the Celestial equator the stars are almost at the same distance from both celestial poles so they seem to travel in a straight line. The South Celestial pole is towards the top left of the photo. The North Celestial pole is below the horizon towards the bottom-right.
The stars over rural Alabama are pretty amazing when there's no moon in the sky! I was out there doing some fishing this past weekend, and brought along the camera to try out some night shots. These cypress trees line the pathway to a small dock, on a lake that used to be used for catfish farming before being converted to a bass pond (there are some big fish in these ponds!). Learning to take better night shots is something that's been on my list of things to do once I upgraded to the full-frame camera. I'm very, very impressed with the low light performance of the new camera! Unfortunately my lens only stops down to f/4.0, so I'm more or less limited to ISO3200 or above to get an exposure that doesn't result in noticeable star trails. This equipment upgrading is just a never ending process - I guess now I'll just have to find a much faster lens for night photography :) I heard the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 is a good affordable lens for night shots - does anyone have experience with this, or any other good night photography lens? I appreciate your comments if you do!
An incredible display of light as the sun rises beyond Bryce Canyon's "Silent City" during monsoon season.

After several failed attempts at a full moon rise behind Hound Tor it finally worked out. Although the moon was a bit high as it appeared this was due to a huge temperature inversion layer. Fog below and very warm air above bending the light and giving a heat shimmer (superior mirage) to the moon - Very awesome to see! Also there is a 'Where's Wally' moment in there too.
On a moonless night in Mont-Tremblant National Park, the northern sky comes alive as charged particles from the Sun spiral along Earth’s magnetic field. Colliding with oxygen and nitrogen high in the atmosphere, they ignite vivid ribbons of green, purple, and blue above silhouetted treetops — a natural particle accelerator lighting up the polar night.
The aurora dances across the sky, shifting and twisting with a quiet, otherworldly energy. Below, the forest stands in stillness, dark and patient, while above, light flows in currents that seem almost alive, tracing the invisible lines of our planet’s magnetic embrace.
It’s a moment of cosmic choreography, where the vastness of space meets the calm of Earth, reminding us that even in the stillest nights, the universe pulses with motion and color.

I usually try to get a lofty view of the full moon so I can capture it as soon as it rises above the horizon, but alas it was not aligned. I decide to go for the ground assault at the Wallace Monument and to my amazement it was in perfect alignment 4.2degrees above the horizon at 2.5Km away. The thin veil of high cloud softened the brightness of the moon.

I met Celeste through Instagram! I had a lovely time showing her Christine Falls in West Kelowna! I'm excited to go on more adventures with this chick! More excited to shred the mountain with her in the winter!

and all of the sudden, within the silence of the forest, we lost our voice. no longer could we speak out what was on our mind, no longer could we let our thoughts become reality. all the wisdoms uttered still laid upon us like a velvet of serenity, and it arose to our heads these sentences, these expressions, these confessions and these admissions, of the kind to not be put into voice, that no word, no sentence could convey. so with the gentle touch, our souls spoke what could not be spoken, and the celestial sunlight enlightened our hearts and unfroze them to ignite the light of truth. how could a silence ever be so vibrant, so wonderfully full of emotion? I guess it's not up to us to figure that out as we are not here to merely think. no emotion is reality when it isn't felt. and to feel, that is our duty. i feel you.
