Celestial twinning. The arch of the Milky Way and the Toul-an-Hery bridge span the Douron together to connect Plestin-les-Grêves and Locquirec (Brittany; France). Quite a symbol for these two municipalities which will celebrate their twinning on August 15 in the middle of the bridge (but probably not at night under the Milky Way, road safety requires). For the record, the construction of a bridge to replace the ferry was already requested in 1865; the current bridge was inaugurated in 1934 (you have to know to be patient!). This photo was taken on June 25 around 1:30 a.m. at mid-tide (at high tide, the water may reach almost to the top of the bridge piles!). Panorama obtained from 21 images (24mm; f/2.8; 20s; 6400iso)
We had a great time during our April Milky Way workshop! Mother Nature treated us to clear skies each night and we visited a number of amazing locations. This 3-frame horizontal pano was the final one of the workshop and was done in 2-passes. The first pass was for the sky at ISO 10,000, f2.8, 15mm, 13sec. 6 shots were stacked prior to merging to panoramic. The second pass was for the foreground and was shot at ISO 1600, f2.8, 15mm, 4min for better detail retention.

Lost in the beauty of a celestial phenomenon. From last Thursday's brilliant aurora display. I never thought I would get a chance to see it, let alone experience it in my own backyard. Have a great day!!!

Pano of 5 shots stitched in PS. Used Topaz denoise for the first time. Impressive results for this software.

Il faro della diga a Sottomarina sotto un cielo trapuntato di stelle. Avevo pubblicato una foto simile, tempo fa, ma in questa sono riuscito ad elaborare meglio il cielo per togliere in parte l'inquinamento luminoso.

This is a shot I had envisioned for qAhh...the high you feel when a shot comes together!
I had envisioned this image for quite a while and I was elated when I finally made it happen! It required so many things to line up. First, clear skies during an early spring Milky Way. Second, sufficient snow coverage to help illuminate the landscape at night. Third, low wind for the long exposures. Fourth, stable snow conditions to minimize avalanche danger. And finally, the most elusive and scarce element, time (I'm usually running Milky Way Workshops in the Southwest in Spring)!
We set off late in the evening and arrived just before the Milky way was in the prime position. We set up a small tent as a prop and felt it added additional interest to the pano. In the darkest hours of the night, we were like two kids beaming with glee!
Tech Specs: I did two passes for this pano - all at 17mm. First pass was for the sky at 10sec ISO 10,000, f/2.8. I stacked 8 shots for noise reduction. I then took a second pass for the foreground (same exact position) and took that at 45sec ISO 3200 for improved landscape detail.

An AI and cloud based image. AI satellite and stars with a couple of my own cloud and moon photos. I heard today that the Russian Far Side of the Moon project was unsuccessful with the Luna 25 crashing. HMMM

Milky Way Pano - Shenandoah National Park, VA
I finally got my opportunity at shooting a Milky Way panorama while its arc was low, and w/o having to use a fish eye or super wide lens to do so. It is only in this position for a few short weeks in Spring here in Virginia. I missed out last year due to the only clear nights being on weekday work nights, and that was the case again this year, but I bit the bullet this year and done it. Yeah, not a pleasant day at work afterwards, but to me it was worth it.
During the first of the month of April, around 3am, its arc is centered East at about 25° high when it rises and it stretches from South to North. By the end of the month, it stands about 35° high. Since the peak of the Milky Way’s arc is so low in April, this is the time to shoot panoramas that show it stretching across the frame. By the first of the month in May, the peak of its arc is about 40° high. By the end of May, its arc is high in the sky, and will continue to be until next April.
3 stitched images taken at 4:26 am - 20 seconds each @ ISO 3200, f/2.8, w/ a Bower 14mm.
