Doesn't quite 'read' as a tiny thumbnail. Oh well. Really looks well big. Especially when you can see the little bits of light that were cast around Nicolle.. almost like I cut it out and edited her in, except that I didn't.

Currently I’m working on making some jewelry using lost wax casting. I thought the wax look interesting, at least before I melted it.

Amtrak Dormitory-Baggage car # 540, as seen on an overcast day, the vestibule end view of a former U.S. Army Hospital car recently acquired by Amtrak was located in the SCL (former ACL) railroad yard at Saint Petersburg, Florida, during 1974. These US Army Hospital cars were numbered in the # 89500 series and were originally built by the SSCC (St. Louis Car Company), during 1952-1953. The Amtrak car number # 540 was obtained by droping the 89 from the Army car number. Many of these cars were rebuilt by Amtrak in 1973, from their hospital car configuration into a baggage-dormitory car. They were later painted in the Amtrak scheme and placed into the # 1400 series. Eventually, some of these cars were rebuilt again with full HEP pass through cabling and numbered into the # 1600 series. It appears that this car is equiped with some minimal HEP cable connection so it could be use with Amfleet cars on the Northeast Corridor, but it still has in place it's conventional steam line connection pipe. One interesting feature of these cars is the trucks on which they ride, an early model of the GSC (General Steel Casting) outside swing hanger truck design, very similar to the trucks placed under the Osgood Bradley streamlined American Flyer cars used on the New Haven Railroad. These trucks did have outside swing hangers, bolster anchors, snubbers, roller bearings, but were designed to use convention clasp shoe brakes. The later GSC outside swing hanger designed trucks incorporated the use of disc brakes, and that was something Amtrak wanted to have on all their trucks when possible. You may notice the end diaphram and the use of a strong diaphram support anchor rod and a tight-lock coupler, of course. This car still retained it's Army olive drab paint scheme with a light colored roof. I find the window configuration used on these dormitory-baggage cars to be interesting, as compared to the more standard configuration used on cars that were originally built for this purpose. There is one final item to mention and that is the pair of air horns mounted high on the car's vestibule end outside bulkhead. These cars were generally used on Amtrak's Champion in and out of Saint Petersburg.
When I received my company's first batch of investment castings for our first products, I inspected them by laying them out on the floor in ranks. Then I photographed them. After machining, these castings will fit the Remington 870.

Casting Crowns CD Release Party
Casting Crowns launches new CD
By Jason A. Smith

Megan McLain, of Jonesboro, said she came to see Casting Crowns because of the “inspirational” message the band conveys in its music.
“It’s a good wake-up call,” she said of the Grammy-winning group’s collection of songs. “It really makes you think, ‘Am I being effective as a Christian?’”
McLain was part of a standing-room-only crowd of fans who celebrated the release, Wednesday, of the band’s third CD, “The Altar and the Door,” at a concert at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough.
Throughout the show, lead singer Mark Hall — who is also the youth leader at Eagle’s Landing — told the crowd how the CD came together, all the while emphasizing the band members’ view of music as a ministry.
“We were not setting out to make music,” he told the crowd. “We set out to say something. Music is the vehicle.”
The message seemed to resonate with 16-year-old Jake Lothes, of Jackson. He said he didn’t know a lot about Casting Crowns before he was invited to the concert by friends, but that he liked what he heard at the show.
“I like their sound and what they sing about,” he said. “It’s all about praising God.”
Hall said the band members draw from their own experiences to create their music.
“We sing about the things we’re struggling with, and for some reason, people identify with it,” he said.
Among the songs the band performed during the concert was the title track of their latest CD, which is about a Christian’s struggle to maintain a spiritual commitment after exiting a church building.
“Right here in the church, everything makes sense,” he said.
Tom Chitwood, 44, of McDonough said he and his family attend Eagle’s Landing and have followed the band’s career since its beginning. He said he appreciates the authenticity and openness of the band members, particularly Hall.
“Mark is what he sings,” Chitwood said. “He’s sincere, he’s humble and he’s genuine.”
Like Chitwood, Marcie Lunsford of McDonough said she knew the band members in their early days. She said they have remained “down to earth” and continue to impact the lives of young people, like her 16-year-old son Jacob.
“They’ve just been a remarkable influence and inspiration to my son, as well as to the youth group,” she said. “It’s amazing what they pour into these kids.”
The Rev. Dan Holley, pastor of Austin Oaks Baptist Church in Ellenwood, said many in his congregation came to see Casting Crowns play Wednesday, and to fellowship with other Christians.
“It was important for us to come to worship together with other churches, and see what the Lord’s doing here,” he said.
Casting Crowns’ lead guitarist, Juan DeVevo of McDonough, said Eagle’s Landing was the perfect place to launch their new CD.
“This is home for us,” said DeVevo, 31. “We have four churches represented in the band, and all were represented here.”
He dismissed the characterization that the band is a bunch of “rock stars.”
“I don’t think of myself as being that cool,” he said, adding that staying active in their respective churches and youth groups keeps them “accountable” to other Christians.
Bass guitarist Chris Huffman said playing for the people at Eagle’s Landing helped him keep a proper perspective.
“They know we’re not rock stars,” he said. “We get to play music for a living. That’s really it.”

A sharp crystal evening, golden sunlight casting long blue shadows. What a joy to arrive in Lower Slaughter and wander along the river with only the ducks, the jackdaws and a few hardy visitors for company. The jackdaws seem at home in the trees along the River Eye, occasionally descending to hop along the rooftops or to peer at discarded bread crumbs with their grey heads at an angle. Slaughter is thought to be a corruption of slohtre, a marshy place. Many visit Bourton on the water fewer travel an extra mile to see Lower Slaughter it’s smaller, quieter but equally picturesque neighbour.
Stone cottages line the north bank of the river with a small green at their centre, this miniature area of grass is known as The Square and has a Gothic drinking fountain as it’s only adornment. The clear stream water is only visible as it eddies round the piers of the low stone bridges that span it’s broad flow. Follow the canalised river to the upper end of the village and you will find a 19th century brick corn mill with white water crashing over the mill race and 15ft water wheel still turning with the flow. On the opposite bank towards the middle of the village are the Village Hall of 1887 and the National School by Edmund B. Ferrey 1871. Near where the road crosses the river the south bank is dominated by large and luxurious-looking hotel.
The church was rebuilt in 1866-7 by Benjamin Ferrey, the design draws on Early English and Geometrical Decorated styles and though it replaced a picturesque medieval building with a saddle-back tower the Victorian design sits well among the more ancient stone buildings that surround it. Only a Transitional Norman north arcade survives with scalloped capitals and waterholding bases joined by pointed double-chamfered arches. The church has a nave with a north aisle, chancel, south porch and a west tower with broached spire the tip of which was replaced in 1998. Elegant black marble shafts ornament the chancel arch but a similar use of marble in Ferrey’s east window was lost when Hoare and Wheeler provided a new east window and an Italian alabaster reredos depicting the Crucifixion in 1910. Next to the altar a 13th century piscina survives from the older church. The stone font and pulpit are part of Ferrey’s design and there are areas of floor tiling by Godwin. The east window has glass by James Powell and Sons and they provided the attractive design in the north aisle. The west window of the north aisle and the west tower window are by Clayton and Bell 1867. Most of the memorials in the church commemorate the Whitmore family who occupied the neighbouring manor House for more than 300 years. The west tower has six bells, one of c.1450 by Robert Hendley of Gloucester inscribed Santa Anna ORA Pro Nobis St.Anne pray for us. Two are dated 1683 by Edward Neale of Burford and three of 1867 by John Warner and Sons of London.
To the north-east of the churchyard is a 16th century dovecote which is said to have held 1000 birds.
Lower Slaughter lies just off the Fosseway near Bourton on the Water about an hour form Stratford-upon-avon

As I did with the other castings, I took it down the the bare castings wherever possible, and then for the filler that remained, I sealed it with epoxy to harden it and then sanded out the epoxy. An initial spray can application of primer showed the smoothing and fairing that was required with Bondo. Corners were ground to a consistent radius with an angle grinder and flap disc.
