With his technical knowledge, his creative forces and his inventive talent UliK developed a construction that allows musicians to glide through space. With his knowledge of stage- and costume-design, his musical choices and his feel for good entertainment he produced a magical show with the innovative brass band Fanfare Le SNOB.
Since the 1994 Fanfare Le SNOB (the abbreviation for “Service de Nettoyage des Oreilles Bouchées” (trans. cleaning service for blocked ears)) produces performances exploring the sound spectrum of brass instruments. Rooted in excellent musicianship their joy and enthusiasm for street performances is part of their magic.
The eye and ear opening performance of UliK and Le SNOB induces its subject from musical term “glissando”, which can be translated as “gliding”. In the case of the performance “gliSSSSSSSSendo” there are nine monk-like figures in long black robes and burning hats gliding through darkness in urban space, carried away by their music. The musical program comprises brass band traditionals as well as contemporary compositions by Philipp Glass or Michael Nyman.

Llarg tren TECO entre Yiwu (Xina), Portbou i Madrid-Abroñigal per Cerdanyola Universitat amb la 335-009 de Transfesa al capdavant. Aquest trànsit internacional de molt llarga distància circula via Irun fins a Ludwigshafen (Alemanya) on es transborden els contenidors als trànsits específics fins a la Xina. En aquest cas, la ruta s’ha fet via Portbou per la suspensió del trànsit transfronterer per Euskadi pels problemes al túnel de Gaintxurizketa.
Largo tren TECO entre Yiwu (China), Portbou y Madrid-Abroñigal por Cerdanyola Universitat con la 335-009 de Transfesa al frente. Este tráfico internacional de muy larga distancia circula vía Irún hasta Ludwigshafen (Alemania) donde se transbordan los contenedores a los tráficos específicos hasta China. En este caso, la ruta se ha hecho vía Portbou por la suspensión del tráfico transfronterizo por Euskadi por los problemas en el túnel de Gaintxurizketa.
Long TECO freight train between Yiwu (China), Portbou and Madrid-Abroñigal at Cerdanyola Universitat station with Transfesa's 335-009 locomotive at the front. This very long-distance international traffic runs via Irun to Ludwigshafen (Germany) where the containers are transhipped to the specific traffic to China. In this case, the route has been via Portbou due to the suspension of cross-border traffic through the Basque Country because of problems in the Gaintxurizketa tunnel.
I saw this old guy riding up on the bike and thought it would make an interesting shot as he was full of character and riding an old two stroke. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera, which is pretty unusual. So I borrowed someone elses.
Casal bikes were made in Portugal which is where I saw this. The guy was obviously vey proud of his bike and made sure it was chained up before he left it.

El tall total de la línia entre Castellbisbal i la bifurcació de Seat Martorell aquests dies ens està permetent tornar a veure alguns trens de mercaderies desviats pel Garraf, tal i com va passar durant diversos mesos l’any 2020. En aquest cas podem veure la 335.017 de Continental Rail amb el tren TECO procedent de Bilbao al seu pas per l’estació provisional de Sant Feliu de Llobregat en el tram de via única per les obres de soterrament de la traça al seu pas per la capital del Baix Llobregat.
El corte total de la línea entre Castellbisbal y la bifurcación de Seat Martorell estos días nos está permitiendo volver a ver algunos trenes de mercancías desviados por el Garraf, tal y como pasó durante varios meses el año 2020. En este caso podemos ver la 335.017 de Continental Rail con el tren TECO procedente de Bilbao a su paso por la estación provisional de Sant Feliu de Llobregat en el tramo de vía única por las obras de soterramiento de la traza a su paso por la capital del Baix Llobregat.
The complete interruption of the line between Castellbisbal and the Seat Martorell junction these days is allowing us to see again some freight trains diverted by the Garraf coast, as it happened for several months in 2020. In this case we can see the 335.017 of Continental Rail with the TECO train coming from Bilbao as it passes through the temporary station of Sant Feliu de Llobregat on the single track section due to the works of convertint this section to underground.
I was walking from Lake Marmo to Sterling Pond at the Morton Arboretum on May 16, 2011, when I heard a loud, startling squawk behind me, followed by an agitated, rapid call that was much more high-pitched. I turned and saw two shapes: a smaller bird chasing a larger bird among the medium-level branches. Based on the sound, I first thought it was a great blue heron being chased by something (but I wondered why a heron would be flying low through the woods). Then I realized the bigger bird's wings were brown, so I thought perhaps a Cooper's hawk or sharp-shinned hawk was chasing a great horned owl. It turns out that I was a bit closer on my second guess.
When I came out on the other side of the trees, I saw what I believe was an adult Cooper's hawk sitting in the pine trees, while what appeared to be a red-tailed hawk (RTH) was flying away from it to land in another tree. I was confused, though, because this hawk was much lighter colored than all the other RTHs I've ever seen. I thought maybe it was a red-shouldered hawk or even a harrier, but the more I looked at it, the more I believed I was right about it being a RTH. I need to start bringing my bird guide with me when I hike. When I got home, I confirmed that it's a lighter-colored subspecies of red-tailed hawk, and also a juvenile, since the tail feathers are striped instead of rust colored.
If anyone has another idea about this bird's ID, I'd welcome being corrected! In any case, I had fun as the larger hawk circled my head a few times, even looking down at me. I had a prey's-eye view of a very efficient predator, and I have to admit it was a little unnerving. But it was amazing too. More pics to come! For now, enjoy the ones below.
