Shots in Garda, the resort that our hotel was in.
I saw this old anchor near the lakefront in Garda. It is now a momnument to the sailors.
Possibly placed here in 1973.
On it, it says "Benedici le nostre case lontane", which means "Bless our homes away"
It remembers the sailors and fishermen.
The anchor might date from 1388, and was found in 1973.
On the gate it says "rispettatelo divieto oi pesca" which means "respect it or ban fishing".

Non, Hell Bourg ne veut pas dire Bourg de l'Enfer, bien que la Réunion ait été occupée par les Anglais pendant quelque 10 années. Son nom lui vient tout simplement d'un gouverneur de l'île du 19 ème siècle, Louis de Hell. Donc on doit dire " le charme de Hell Bourg " et non pas d'Hell Bourg. Le village a été fondé pour l'exploitation d'une source thermale aux vertus thérapeutiques mal définies et qui ne dura qu'un siècle . Elle perdit ses qualités au fil des ans avant d'être abandonnée, ensevelie par un cyclone. Mais les gens aisés de la côte, "zoreilles" ou riches créoles prirent l'habitude d'y aller en " changement d'air " à la saison chaude. Enfin surtout les femmes et les enfants ( j'en étais) , les maris restant dans la fournaise de la côte. A Hell Bourg il tombait souvent des averses diluviennes. Nous, les gosses, on adorait çà . Depuis ma dernière visite, il y a bientôt trente ans, Hell Bourg a été proclamé plus beau village de France et " relooké " pour le tourisme. Connaissant les réunionnais, je crains le pire.
The one ACL taping I ever truly wanted to see. It was a great show but rather funny in that she was so nervous she couldn't get through songs easily. She tried to do "I Wish I Was The Moon" three times but couldn't pull it off. I had a tape of the show but my wish was granted when the whole taping was released on DVD earlier this year.
