I was out with a couple cameras yesterday, and ventured onto the Powell Valley to see if any pictures were forthcoming. It morning was overcast, and the sky was washed out, so I used some tree limbs to add color to the sky, and let the mossy rocks do the rest.
I normally don’t like to have structures encroaching into my nature pictures, but I like those old steel bridges, and this one is just green enough to not be an eye sore.

I tried something different with my D810. I used a R72 filter that I used to use for infrared film to simulate infrared with my newest camera. The exposure was 10 seconds. There was slight breeze, so the trees aren't as sharp as I'd like, but it was otherwise a success.
Being no longer a denizen of the Columbia Gorge, and being on a shorter leash due to the Covid crisis, I am seeking out views closer to home. This is a short 20 minutes from home on the outer edge of Sandy, Oregon (names after the river you see on the bottom of the picture).
The Powell Valley is where the terrain takes a break from gaining elevation before climbing the western flank of Mt. Hood. It contains the afore-mentioned river, dodge park, lichen covered trees, and places where the sun rarely shines. Just ask the slugs.

I finally made it to Lower Lewis River Falls in Washington State.. The water was a tad low, so the falls weren't very exciting, but a young woman sat down in the pool, giving me a different composition to attempt, as long as she stayed still enough for a long exposure.

Two boats sit placidly in the late summer at Astoria, Oregon. Gaia and I were there on the 17th just to eat the seafood and take the pictures. Winter is come in the Columbia Gorge. The mountains are snow-capped, and the sun makes the occasional appearance. This is the Hwy 30, otherwise known as the Historic Columbia Gorge Highway. It's one of the nation's best places to drive with a car full of cameras.

This is the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Woodland, Washington. I’ve photographed it quite a bit for about the last 8 years, trying, of course, to get it right.
This time, I used Ilford Ortho+ film. It’s a film that I have come to adore, especially when developed in Pyro. I used 510-Pyro this time, and it worked out pretty well. I could have subtracted a half a minute from the developing time, but I am happy with the negatives I got.

This is from a Gorge trip earlier in November. I had the twirly Camera out for another spin, and brought this home. The camera had a hickup of some sort, because this picture and the one before it had less density in the center. No other pictures on the roll had the same issue.

I like Starvation Creek Falls. I have attempted to capture it properly for years. I think I have come close to getting it right a few times. This is one of the better ones.
I took a vantage point on top of a large rock, and I think the added distance allowed me to get the foreground in focus. The composition is very pleasing as a result.

I have never done the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in infrared before. We were there today to test out Rollei IR 400 film on a difficult subject, but I did some digitals along the way. For this one, I used my infrared converted D300 and captured one. Next comes developing the film sometime soon.

I hope that I can get out into the Eastern Gorge next spring for some wildflowers. I missed 2020's wildflower season due to the pandemic. I really don't want to miss another.
This is from April 2019. I took it just east of Rowena Crest. The balsamroots are one of the things that attract me to the Historic Columbia River Highway from Mosier to The Dalles.

I finally made it to Lower Lewis River Falls in the Fall of 2024. It took so long because it resides in the backwaters of Skamania County, Washington, just beyond the middle of nowhere. Autumn was just getting under way, and some of the leaves were turning gold. Sunlight slanted in from the southwest, and filtered through the forest. It was a nice day for a first time.

This is from a couple years ago. I thought it would be nice to post a late summer landscape. I haven’t taken many pictures since a few weeks before we moved out of Hood River, other than on I took of a martini a couple weeks ago, so I had to reach back into the archive. I hope that life will return to normal soon, and I can get out into the wilds of Oregon again with a camera.

I don’t want to keep treading on the same ground every year, so this year we headed for Silver Falls, which is 14 miles south of Silverton, Oregon. Along the way, I saw a small river, and also some colorful trees around it. I turned, quite luckily, onto the correct road, and parked. I found a little waterfall, and plenty of colorful foliage.
I applies the Orton Effect to bump it up a bit.

This is the South Falls at Silver Falls State Park near Silverton, Oregon. I never really thought about going there when I lived in the Columbia Gorge, because it was too far for a day trip. Now, I can more easily go there. Exploration will have to be done.
I left the people in the shot mainly to show the scale of the falls.
