2005 marked the last production year for Konica IR 750 film. I was trying to use it sparingly. This is Wahkeena Falls in the Columbia Gorge, Oregon. Water is usually difficult to photograph in infrared, but can be easier when it runs down a shallow, cascade waterfall like his one.
Camera: Hasselblad 500CM
Lens: 80mm Zeiss Planar
Film: Konica IR 750.

Starvation Creek Falls is a difficult waterfall to photograph. There's just too much detail. I thought about orienting the camera vertical, but decided against it because my efforts at focus stacking have not been very successful. Besides, I like getting the trees on the left in the picture and the broken wall into the picture.

The area around Cripple Creek was devistated in the 2020 Riverside Fire. I traveled there during a drive along the Clackamas River. Oregon has both rocky shorelines, and sandy beaches. Best of all, the beaches are open for everyone. None are fenced off, and access is free. I remember going to a beach called Point Pleasant, New Jersey in 1991. Wealthy landowners had sectioned off the beach with fences, and were charging $5.00 to enter. Someone could not walk along the beach for any appreciable distance without paying multiple fees. The boardwalk was almost empty in peak season because nobody was going to the beach there. We bought sandwiches from a gratfeul boardwalk vendor, and left. Thank goodness Oregon has universal beach access.

Descending Seven Mile Hill as it approaches The Dalles, you pass through an unincorporated area known as Ortley. It is to settlements what a cup of water is to an ocean, but after a few of mixing with the surrounding waters. It was a town of about 300 back in 1911, but its fall was as rapid as its rise, as it proved too windy and dry to grow the apples around which the town pinned its hopes. It is listed as a ghost town, but no traces of it exist. There are, however, horses and wheat fields.
I mentioned the wind in the last paragraph. It’s a dramatic, stiff, fly your poodle like a kite kind of wind. As such, that’s my hair in the upper right area of the picture.

There is a little park off of Courtney Road, just past Bingen, Washington. It’s on one of those little lakes created when the railroad, or SR 14 opted for a straighter route than the course of the Columbia River provided. On the hill just north of the lake is an old cattle chute, and a corral that funnled the catle into it. It’s seen better days.
This is another in my series where I attempt to pay more attention to the Rule of Thirds in compopsition.

There was a little atmospheric effect on this negative, and I think it also suffered from waiting too long to develop it, however, the overall effect is emotive. I kinda like it.
I took this from across the Columbia River, presumably with the camera mentioned below. I don't remember, but there is a chance that I used a LF camera with a roll film back. I'm not sure that the 'Blad will bring this waterfall that close over that distance.

I am making another attempt at using PMK Pyro film developer. I swore off of it about 8 years ago, but I really want sharp, grain-free negatives, especially for medium format. Large format has a size advantage when it comes to grain, so it's less of an issue. I'm sticking strictly to Gordon Hutchin's instructions this time, and it seems to be working. This negative has pyro stain out the wazoo, and it is evenly developed. So, I may keep on keeping on with it. My go-to developers are likely to be PMK for most images, especially ones that need to have the contrast toned down, and 510-Pyro for everything else.
This is a favorite spot of mine. It's wonderfully cluttered, but has that path and rocks to provide a focal point.

I like the way this one is split in two pieces: a light side and a dark side. On the right, we have a bright, sunny side that we will call "Luke", and on the other is a dark and forboding cliff we will call "Vader". The river is the Force that flows between them.

Horsetail Falls has always been a difficult subject for me. It is so close to the road that a wide angle is necessary to get the whole plunge into the frame. Photographing it requires a dry lens cloth to wipe the spray off of the lens after each picture. However I took a few steps back and included the bridge in the picture, and I kind of like it.

Spring is here, and it's time for the infrared to emerge for the warmer months. This is the Siuslaw Bridge in Florence, Oregon. It's part of Hwy 101 on the Oregon Coast, and was designed by Conde McCullough, who also designed a number of other Oregon Coastal bridges.
I turned my D810 into an infrared camera by sticking a Hoya R72 filter in front of it.

I had the Twirly Camera out for a spin in Dufur during July. I had just got it back from Precision Camera Works, where they replaced the gears that spin the turret, among other things. But, before I could scan the any of the negatives, my scanner started leaving lines in the scans. Strangely enough, the camera was leaving lines in the negatives. When the gears go bad, the turret hesitates, and causes areas of more density. Both the camera and the scanner had issues that caused the same thing. Whodathunkit? Both are fixed now. I had the scanner fixed at Portland Printer Place. Good people. They need your support.

It was a foggy day when Gaia and I set out fo the Oregon Coast. The fog was particularly thick around Sauvie Islane, which is west of Portland. I hadn’t taken any pictures of the new sauvie Island Bridge to that point, so I decided to find a good perch to set up the tripod, and get some foggy pictures.
This picture appears here as it was taken. I didn’t have to do any manipulation.

Mosier is not currently threatened by the fires for a change, although it was earlier this summer. I drove through the own today on my way to visit Idiot’s Grace Winery.
The smoke is thick throughout most of Oregon.

Gaia and I were at Conboy Lake a few years ago, and there was a pioneer cabin on the site. It made for a few interesting pictures.

I took a short hike along Leif Erikson Road last weekend. The sun was getting low on the horizon, and it lit up the top of this little tree for long enough for me to take a picture

I was out with a couple cameras yesterday, and ventured onto the Powell Valley to see if any pictures were forthcoming. It morning was overcast, and the sky was washed out, so I used some tree limbs to add color to the sky, and let the mossy rocks do the rest.
I normally don’t like to have structures encroaching into my nature pictures, but I like those old steel bridges, and this one is just green enough to not be an eye sore.

I tried something different with my D810. I used a R72 filter that I used to use for infrared film to simulate infrared with my newest camera. The exposure was 10 seconds. There was slight breeze, so the trees aren't as sharp as I'd like, but it was otherwise a success.
Being no longer a denizen of the Columbia Gorge, and being on a shorter leash due to the Covid crisis, I am seeking out views closer to home. This is a short 20 minutes from home on the outer edge of Sandy, Oregon (names after the river you see on the bottom of the picture).
The Powell Valley is where the terrain takes a break from gaining elevation before climbing the western flank of Mt. Hood. It contains the afore-mentioned river, dodge park, lichen covered trees, and places where the sun rarely shines. Just ask the slugs.
