"This Noche Argentina presents two acts that approach the tango and the tradional music from Argentina in a very personal way. Facundo Torres is a celebrated bandoneon player who earned his stripes on the side of Juan Jose Mosalini, Melingo, Nestor Marconi or Gotan Project. He was also part of Cuarteto Cedron, whose musical and poetic universe inspired him for his work as a soloist with Sombras Criollas. In a society where culture tends more and more to uniformity, "Sombras criollas" tries to pick hidden stories and melodies. Of those stories which Facundo Torres finds in the poetry of Raul Gonzalez Tunon, Engrique Banchs, Ruben Dario or Mario Paoletti, Facundo creates new songs with traditional Latin American rhythms as the milonga, the candombe, the "vals criollo" and the tango that suit his velvet voice almost perfectly.

With her "Tangos From a Dromedary Point of View", La Sieste du Dromadaire explores how tango would sound if played by Musulman, Pygmies, the Rolling Stones or by quadrupeds like dromedaries and underdogs … Because of the unique combination of Argentinean inspired melodies and African percussion, La Sieste du Dromadaire is probably the only tango group in the world that fits better in the desert than in an Argentinean tango bar … Percussion instruments have rarely been used in traditional tango, but the African presence definitely has affected the ’Argentinean tango music’ and has influenced much of its typical sensual swing. La Sieste du Dromadaire brings together two cultures that may seem worlds apart, but which in fact have always been connected! And "what does the dromedary have to do with any of this?" This noble four-legged creature gave to the world, with its footsteps in the sand: the well-known rhythm called the clave. From Africa to the rest of the world - a secret that few people actually know! - but a fact that makes these animals musical heroes!

When slavery was finally abolished, these Uruguayan citizens began to form new groups and thus they gave shape to the neighborhoods popularly referred to as "Negro neighborhoods"...
Candombe was the rhythm that not only joined them together but also reminded them of their African past and held them close to their origins, to their history.

Der Karneval der Kulturen ist ein multikulturelles Fest in Berlin, das seit 1996 alljährlich um das Pfingstwochenende herum im Stadtteil Kreuzberg gefeiert wird. Bei den Umzügen, den Musik- und Theaterveranstaltungen dient der Karnevalsgedanke einer bunten und lebensbejahenden Demonstration der kulturellen Vielfalt.
Mit rund einer Million Besucher zählt der Berliner Karneval der Kulturen zu den größten Straßenumzügen in Deutschland.
Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures) is a multicultural festival in Kreuzberg, Berlin, celebrated annually since 1996 around the Whitsun weekend. It is organised by the Werkstatt der Kulturen. The processions, theatre performances, and music events celebrate peace, tolerance, and multiculturalism.

Este evento esta organizado por Uruguayos Unidos que es una Asociación de Caridad y Beneficencia registrada en 1992 (Australia )
Esta actividad es una de la mas importantes que crean en Australia . Cada año convoca muy diversos miembros de la comunidad de habla hispánica a este lindo encuentro de cultura , tradición y solidaridad. Al mismo tiempo que los Miembros de la Comunidad Uruguaya celebran el Día de la Independencia .
Los fondos que se obtienen de este festival se dedican a ayudar a instituciones publicas del Uruguay Hospitales ,Policlínicas y Escuelas
La fiesta comenzará a las 10 de la mañana y se extenderá hasta las 10 de la noche.
Se espera que como cada año el publico será muy numeroso y variado, el espectáculo previsto, cierto que es muy diverso ; con tres orquestas para bailar,
variado folklore de la comunidad iberoamericana e incluso una exposición de artistas .

This activity is one of the most important one organized in Australia..
Each year different members of the Hispanic-speaking community are invited to this event of culture, tradition and solidarity.
It is as well the Uruguyan Independance day celebration.
Funds raised from this festival are directed to Uruguyan public institutions: hospitals, polyclinics and schools.
The party will start at 10 am and will last until 10 pm.
It is hoped that the public will be very large and diverse as usual.
The show presented will include different and varied performances.
Varied Ibero - American folkloric groups, three orchestras for dancing and even an artists exhibition.

Eu estava mais que ansioso por esta nova mixtape, e a razão é simples: eu, Raphael Morone, me interesso pela cultura uruguaia há mais de dez anos. O motivo do interesse surgido naquela época era apenas o futebol e as façanhas da celeste nos campos pelo mundo. Mas a coisa cresceu e não ficou apenas na questão esportiva. Quis ir a fundo, saber da cultura daquele país vizinho cuja população era menor que a de um bairro de São Paulo. Não é possível que os caras fossem bons apenas no futebol, no churrasco e no alfajor. Tinha que ter mais. E tinha: o candombe.
O candombe é o ritmo ligado aos negros do Uruguai e da Argentina, sendo que no Uruguai tem uma relevância maior na cultura do país, principalmente pela quantidade de afrodescendentes ser maior por lá. Junto com as murgas, é a base do Carnaval uruguaio e assim como o samba aqui no Brasil, também tem seus desdobramentos em outros gêneros da música popular. Alguns especialistas também consideram o candombe um parente próximo do tango e da milonga, ritmos mais conhecidos, algo como o ska-rocksteady-reggae na Jamaica. Candombe vem de ndombe, negro no idioma Bantu e na segunda metade do século XVIII designava as celebrações que os escravos chegados faziam encenando a coroação dos reis do Congo com batuques dos tambores e vestimenta própria. Com o tempo, ele penetrou nos bairros da capital uruguaia e também se popularizou entre os brancos. Ainda assim, é um símbolo de resistência na coletividade afro. Para não confundir os leitores, vale uma explicação ainda mais detalhada sobre o nome: muitos destes escravos que chegavam em Buenos Aires e Montevidéu vinham da mesma região dos que desembarcavam no Brasil. Portanto, o candombe mineiro da Serra do Cipó e o candomblé na Bahia, tem tudo um mesmo tronco de origem do candombe rioplatense.
Nesta mixtape, a idéia foi fazer um apanhado de várias épocas do candombe, começando pelos principais nomes, como Lágrima Rios, um ícone da cultura negra uruguaia e os maestros Romeo Gavioli, Manolo Guardia e Pedrito Ferreira. Nesta primeira parte, as gravações são bem antigas, tem coisa de 1949, como Tinta Negra, de Gavioli. Essa track, aliás, é quase um tango, um bom modo de sacar essa origem citada anteriormente. Já na segunda parte, partimos pros anos 60, onde o candombe se mistura com a beatlemania que chegava no Uruguai e ganha uma roupagem diferente, o candombe beat. Os destaques desta época são os grupos Los Shakers, El Kinto e duas figuras importantíssimas na música uruguaia como um todo: Ruben “El negro” Rada e Eduardo Mateo. Rada foi o responsável por pegar o candombe beat e recolocar a africanidade perdida e Mateo, letrista de mão cheia, fazia de cada canção composta uma obra. Na terceira e última parte, selecionamos candombes que se misturam com outros estilos e gente das décadas seguintes, bem como a atualidade. Entre os principais nomes, outro mito da música uruguaia, Alfredo Zitarrosa. Famoso pelas milongas, em Carnaval o músico mostra que o período em que viveu em bairros com população negra e candombera o influenciou bastante. Outro bamba é Jaime Roos, outro nome importante da música local em uma de suas músicas de maior sucesso. Entre os nomes atuais, o candombe-rap do Contra las Cuerdas e Martin Buscaglia, de repertório variado, mas que tem essa jóia selecionada entre seus melhores sons. Pra fechar, uma vedette do carnaval uruguaio em uma das suas pouquíssimas e tardias gravações e um trecho sobre os negros e o futebol do livro Futebol ao sol e a sombra, do mestre Eduardo Galeano, lido por ele mesmo.

History goes that during the days of the Spanish colony, many African men and women were brought to America as slaves in order to fulfill tasks at the houses of the most remarkable families in Montevideo.
When slavery was finally abolished, these Uruguayan citizens began to form new groups and thus they gave shape to the neighborhoods popularly referred to as "Negro neighborhoods"...
Candombe was the rhythm that not only joined them together but also reminded them of their African past and held them close to their origins, to their history.

El desfile de Llamadas contó este año con más de 50 agrupaciones, conformando una de las fiestas populares más grandes del Uruguay. Esta edición lleva el nombre de Julio "Kanela" Sosa, en homenaje al emblemático artista del carnaval uruguayo fallecido en diciembre pasado. Some neighbours of El Bajo area in the Old Town get together in a hot summer night to play drums and practice for the Desfile de Llamadas which is part of the Carnival festivities. The beat is the traditional candombe played by the African slaves in the XIX century. Most of them grew up rooting for the now defunct basketball club Las Bóvedas, so their flag bears the colours of the club, green, white and red. The "comparsa", or band, is amateur. Instruments, costumes etc are paid by the participants, with luck with the sponsorship of the neighbourhood grocery store or similar businesses. This was a very informal rehearsal: no costumes, and families joining in.
