"This Noche Argentina presents two acts that approach the tango and the tradional music from Argentina in a very personal way. Facundo Torres is a celebrated bandoneon player who earned his stripes on the side of Juan Jose Mosalini, Melingo, Nestor Marconi or Gotan Project. He was also part of Cuarteto Cedron, whose musical and poetic universe inspired him for his work as a soloist with Sombras Criollas. In a society where culture tends more and more to uniformity, "Sombras criollas" tries to pick hidden stories and melodies. Of those stories which Facundo Torres finds in the poetry of Raul Gonzalez Tunon, Engrique Banchs, Ruben Dario or Mario Paoletti, Facundo creates new songs with traditional Latin American rhythms as the milonga, the candombe, the "vals criollo" and the tango that suit his velvet voice almost perfectly.

With her "Tangos From a Dromedary Point of View", La Sieste du Dromadaire explores how tango would sound if played by Musulman, Pygmies, the Rolling Stones or by quadrupeds like dromedaries and underdogs … Because of the unique combination of Argentinean inspired melodies and African percussion, La Sieste du Dromadaire is probably the only tango group in the world that fits better in the desert than in an Argentinean tango bar … Percussion instruments have rarely been used in traditional tango, but the African presence definitely has affected the ’Argentinean tango music’ and has influenced much of its typical sensual swing. La Sieste du Dromadaire brings together two cultures that may seem worlds apart, but which in fact have always been connected! And "what does the dromedary have to do with any of this?" This noble four-legged creature gave to the world, with its footsteps in the sand: the well-known rhythm called the clave. From Africa to the rest of the world - a secret that few people actually know! - but a fact that makes these animals musical heroes!

Candombe is a musical genre that has its roots in the African Bantu, and is proper of Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil. Uruguayan Candombe is the most practiced and spread internationally and has been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Candombe the dance was a local fusion of various African traditions. A complicated choreography includes a final section with wild rhythms, freely improvised steps, and energetic, semi-athletic movements.

As a result to the systematic criticism by the church of the abuses committed by the conquerors in the exploitation of the natives, the import of black slaves from Africa was authorized. In Río de La Plata, they had to cultivate the land, drive cattle and do domestic tasks. According to their customs they danced the "Candombe" to the rhythm of the durm, a profane dance whose evolution would convert into the Argentine tango. When slavery was abolished, it continued as a popular music, especially during carnival.

 

Museo Histórico de Cera (Historical Wax Museum) was opened in 1980 on the second floor of an Italian Renaissance building, at Dr. del Valle Iberlucea 1261, built in 1902 by architect J.B. Rocca. The only wax museum in the country features sculptor Domingo Tellechea's ceroplastic figures depicting the history of the neighborhood. The building was one of the first brick and cement houses in La Boca, and starting in 1904 it was the venue for the Committee of the Socialist Party, presided Dr. Alfredo Palacios, the first socialist in the Argentine Congress and in the American continents.

Buenos Aires, 21 de febrero de 2015.- Se llevó a cabo la cuarta edición de los Carnavales Afrodescendientes en la Manzana de las Luces. Hubo talleres, juegos para chicos, desfile de comparsas y conciertos a cargo de artistas e impulsores de la cultura afroamericana.

También se pudo disfrutar del tradicional desfile de comparsas del desfile participaron las agrupaciones Nación Bombele, África Rugue, La Comparsa, Mburucuyá, Guarilo, Fantasía Lubola, Lunayembe, La Rosa Negra, Idile Candombe, Escuela de Candombe Bonga, Escalandombe Sur, Afro Raíz, La Chilinga, Kandombe Candombe y Comparsa Bantu.

Como cierre, se presentaron los espectáculos musicales, de la mano de Los Faroles, Samba Boato Carioca, Samba Meu Lugar, Cañete Negro, Bemba Candombe, Los Sábalos y el grupo Sendero.

El baile afro de Nación Zumbalele es de lo que mejor que vi en estas llamadas 2012.

History goes that during the days of the Spanish colony, many African men and women were brought to America as slaves in order to fulfill tasks at the houses of the most remarkable families in Montevideo.

 

When slavery was finally abolished, these Uruguayan citizens began to form new groups and thus they gave shape to the neighborhoods popularly referred to as "Negro neighborhoods"...

 

Candombe was the rhythm that not only joined them together but also reminded them of their African past and held them close to their origins, to their history.

El Candombe es una manifestación espiritual, que representa los sentimientos del pueblo Afroriental. En él se conjugan, las tradiciones de los pueblos de Benguela, Angola y Kongo junto a lo de los españoles, portugueses, guaraníes, charrúas y chanás.
