November 2016 Supermoon setting behind the
Waldo Canyon Fire Burn Scar as the Rocky Mountains glow red/orange from the morning sunrise
Colorado Springs, CO.
At 24 hours past its peak, I suppose this is no longer really a true "Supermoon", however it was a wonderful sight to watch as I started my day ...
Note: Having taken several photos shortly after moonrise the past couple of days, I also observed that the PoV changes between moonrise and moonset such that the moon appears to rotate more than 90 degrees during its travel across the sky. This explains why the orientation of the craters often appears so different between one moon photograph and another. :)

Especially out on a desolate Lake Ontario, the Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis) is a striking sight. This incredible duck is wildly-well adapted to live on water. In fact, it is the deepest diving of all diving ducks, slipping down beneath the surface of the water to depths of up to 200 feet in search of tasty morsels! While actively seeking out insects and crustaceans, it also remains submerged much longer than other ducks, spending three-quarters of its foraging time under water and popping up seemingly only for air. A bird of the arctic north, it will soon be traveling to colder climes with the snowy owls who have wintered in Western New York.
