3/4" button. Tarnished silver rim; metal back and shank; glass or plastic cover. Information regarding this button was obtained from the California State Button Society. A collector there had a similar button The button she had with this pose was a white egret on a black background. Presumably, this bird was made in pink for contrast against the white background. The collector said she was told that the button was made from hummingbird feathers, South American in origin, circa early 1960s. The hummingbirds are now endangered or protected and it is apparently illegal to import these buttons today.

The Dorset Button Rapper side performing on the Village Stage at Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2009. They have the traditional two colourfully dressed "extras", the "Tommy" and "Betty" whose roles are as old as the dance tradition, and also insert themselves into the dance at the risk of decapitation! The Tommy's role is to introduce the dance and dancers, and keep up a running amusing commentary. The Betty is there to complement the Tommy's role, and traditionally to pass round the hat for the collection.
