Centaurea cyanus; aka bachelor’s button or cornflower.
This is self-sown from last year’s stand of wildflowers and it is a somewhat unusual bicolor. Taken late in the day after an afternoon thunderstorm.
This is shot with a Canon 500D close-up lens attachment on a 70-200mm f2.8L IS lens. This works like a screw-on filter, but it has two glass elements. Both the close-up lens attachment and extension tubes can get “close”, but they can’t really achieve the 1:1 ratio of a true macro lens.
This was hand-held, and another trick that I find useful in these situations in addition to IS, is using AI-servo auto-focus. The DoF is so thin at these ranges that not only does hand-holding shake the image (where IS helps), but the small in-out movements can throw the focus off too. By using the continuous focus mode, which is usually associated with sports photography, you can get a better hit percentage on close-ups like this too.

While cleaning up my computer table I found an SD card of pics I took in Florida April 2013. It had fallen down in back of my desk and never processed. Luck is still with me , I guess LOL!

Taken on a fun outing at the East Liberty Farmer's Market. These Berries looked sooo tasty. It was one of those photographs, the moment I pressed the button, I knew I was going to love the photograph. I wasn't sure how the Lomography XR Redscale was going to turn out. But this made me really happy trying it out.
Bought this button at Backroads Antiques in Starkville. I love that place. It is run by a little cute old couple. Everything is cheap and everything is displayed with total care. I like the drop shadow on this button along with the HUGE "profits = progress". YES! This button was $1.00
