Allium is a genus of monocotyledonous flowering plants that includes hundreds of species, including the cultivated onion, garlic, scallion, shallot, leek, and chives. The generic name Allium is the Latin word for garlic, and the type species for the genus is Allium sativum which means "cultivated garlic".

Bombus terrestris, the buff-tailed bumblebee or large earth bumblebee, is one of the most numerous bumblebee species in Europe. It is one of the main species used in greenhouse pollination, and so can be found in many countries and areas where it is not native, such as Tasmania.[2] Moreover, it is a eusocial insect with an overlap of generations, a division of labor, and cooperative brood care. The queen is monandrous which means she mates with only one male. B. terrestris workers learn flower colors and forage efficiently.

Cheilosia illustrata is a bumblebee mimic with a black and white appearance and an orange tail. The wings have clouds.

Cheilosia illustrata is commonly encountered on Hogweed and Angelica flowers in midsummer. It is widespread and locally common in Hogweed-rich habitats, especially grasslands, hedge margins, woodland edges and wide woodland rides.

Adults fly from May to August. The larvae develop primarily in the roots of Hogweed but Wild Parsnip and possibly Angelica may also be used.

Thanks to Steven Falk for the rather lovely common name for this hover!

The white-tailed bumblebee (Bombus lucorum) is a common bee species that often visits cornflowers. While they are generally a generalist forager, they can be seen on a variety of flowers, including cornflowers, where they may feed on nectar or pollen. Cornflowers are known to be a good source of both nectar and pollen for bumblebees
