Built in Oct 1946, the former EMD SW1 demo unit #700 (which became MJRY #33), waits its fate with the scrapper after being stripped by vandals while sitting inside the roundhouse for years after operations ceased in 2007. Nov 21, 2012

Marianita was built over the course of 3 years in a small boat shop. She is moored in Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island and is a great little single-handed boat for those summer days when the chore list is done and nobody is around to act as crew. Down below there is a small galley space to port with navigation/library to starboard. Pivoting bilgeboards are built into the faces of the v-berths, this avoids having a centerboard trunk taking up space in the middle of the cabin.

Other boats I recognize (clockwise to left):

El Mistico yacht was on the leading edge of technology when she was built in Ballard in 1927.

Thelonius Yacht was custom built for the 1954 Commodore of the Seattle Yacht Club. Thelonius was purchased by the current owner in 2008. She was designed by renowned Ed Monk, Sr., and was named Cheri for most of her existence.

The 96 ft M/V Blue Peter, is a classic fan-tail yacht built expressly for touring and sightseeing.

The 70 ft sloop Rage has a storied racing career including first to finish in Hawaii and West Coast races. She has a very classic interior which is a delight at sea. She is extremely well balanced and is steered by a tiller.

The Ginger Electric Cruiser can go 50 miles upwind with electric power and can use a small sail to go downwind.

The 52 ft Nevermore Schooner is known for her varnished red cedar hull. She was built in British Columbia and launched in 1981.

medieval era castle Glimmingehus (built 1499-1506), Simrishamn (Hammenhóg) - Sweden

...very nice of them to do so.....

The first fortified structure was not built on the island until the early 13th century as a defensive measure, protecting the lands of Kintail against the Vikings who raided, settled and controlled much of the North of Scotland and the Western Isles between 800 and 1266. From the mid 13th century, this area was the quite seperate “Sea Kingdom” of the Lord of the Isles where the sea was the main highway and the power of feuding clan chiefs was counted by the number of men and galleys or “birlinns” at their disposal. Eilean Donan offered the perfect defensive position

Built around 1865, the 20 stamp mill ran until 1875. For a while it was the primary mill for the mines of Ione. In the 1890's the machinery was moved to the (still standing) mill at Berlin, where it can be viewed as one of the main exhibits of Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Historical Park.

To the left of the ruined wall, and across Ione Valley is Paradise Peak in the Paradise Range.

Built in 1873, this was the house of Eugene Bremond, brother of John Bremond Jr. whose house was pictured previously in this short Bremond Block series. Eugene Bremond's house is a classic Victorian with Southern touches, double columns, and a large wraparound porch. It is one of the 11 houses built between 1859 and 1910 that make up the Bremond Block Historic District that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. These Victorian-style homes are part of one of the only remaining upper-class upper-class Victorian neighborhoods of the middle to late nineteenth century in Texas.

Six of the eleven houses were built or expanded for members of the families of brothers Eugene and John Bremond, who were prominent in late-nineteenth-century Austin social, merchandising, and banking circles. Of these six residences, all but one were designed and built by the Austin contractor, George Fiegel.

Some of the old buildings in the Petit France district of Strasbourg, France.

Little Moreton Hall near Macclesfield in Cheshire, England. A beautiful old Tudor black and white building in the Cheshire countryside .

Looking well under National Trust ownership since the 1930's. It originally dates from about 1504, being built in several stages by different generations of the Moreton family. Although it was closed to the public (on Mondays and Tuesdays ) when we visited , there is a footpath to the nearby canal that gives a wonderful view of the building.

My village is mainly brick-built, and even the roofing tiles, at least for the older buildings, are made from clay. The reason is that slate became fashionable only in the 19th century, long after these buildings were erected. Larger rooms used to have their individual fireplace and, hence, their own chimney.

Thank you for viewing, faving or commenting on my images, have a great day!

The Perch Light a Squat tapered circular cast-iron tower sits just off shore on a half-tide rock at Coronation Park in Port Glasgow Scotland. The cylindrical lantern with triangular panes and domed roof was built around 1890 to warn shipping of a sharp curve on the River Clyde at that point.

Built in 1767. The legend is that it was built in a circle so there are no corners for Auld Nick to hide in. Taken at dawn.

I really like that series title Joe O'Malley (www.flickr.com/photos/64joe/) gives to many of his pictures. Very adequate. I hope you won't mind me borrowing it! Last Friday I decided to finally do that walk from Frankfurt to Mainz. All together well over 40 kilometers, and doing that under such hot weather turned out to be as stupid an idea as it sounds. Until the Schwanheimer Düne it's a quite a nice walk. From there until the mouth of the Main well, if you're looking for 2022 top Minimal Tourism destination, don't look any further! Not worth a second time. These here are the jet fuel tanks in Raunheim, seen from the Ölhafenbrücke.

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves and comments, they are always appreciated :)

The Kerrick-Barry House was built in 1886 for Leonidas Kerrick (1846-1907), a lawyer, a legislator, and a breeder of prized polled angus cattle. He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, and later in his life served on their board of trustees, as well as the board for the University of Illinois. The home's second owner was Edward Burry, a McLean County circuit court judge who occupied the bench from 1920 to 1933.

The two and one-half story house Victorian-era house is an irregular framed structure with shiplap siding. The house has a truncated hipped roof with an off-center front gable. The house has three dormers, all of which are slightly different but are of the gamble with over-hang variety. The railings on the porch are not original. The architect is unknown and the house is a mixture of styles.

The Kerrick-Barry House is a contributing property in Bloomington's Franklin Square Historic District, which is located northwest of downtown Bloomington. The Square is named in honor of Franklin Price, who was the mayor of Bloomington Mayor in 1856 when land for the Square was gifted to the city.

Franklin Square was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and was designated a local historic district in 1979. The houses of Franklin Square were built in a variety of architectural styles from the mid 19th century through the early 20th century, including Georgian Revival, Italianate, Colonial, Queen Anne, and Richardsonian Romanesque.

Bloomington is the seat of McLean County. It is adjacent to Normal, and is the more populous of the two principal municipalities of the Bloomington-Normal metropolitan area. Bloomington is home to State Farm Insurance, Country Financial and Beer Nuts. Illinois Wesleyan University is located here, while the neighboring city of Normal is home to Illinois State University and Heartland Community College. Bloomington is 135 miles (217 km) southwest of Chicago, and 162 miles (261 km) northeast of St. Louis. The estimated population of Bloomington in 2019 was 77,330, with a metro population of 191,067.

Built at Saint Sylvestre-sur-Lot in the middle-ages, the Chateau is marked by more than 700 years of history.

Originally a fortified farm, the property has evolved with its successive owners. During the 16th and 17th centuries building work began to construct new main buildings and towers. In the 18th century the windows were completely redesigned in arch style. In the 19th century, the estate passed via marriage to the Dordaygue family who erected a building at the south side. The whole property was restored in 1992 before becoming a luxury hotel. However, in 2008, the company who ran the hotel went into liquidation and the estate fell into a state of neglect.

A new lease of life has been given to the chateau by Philippe Ginestet, local man and owner director of the Gifi group. In 2011 he purchased the estate and, with his friend and architect Jacques Bru, decided to create a unique hotel complex. Several months of work was necessary to get their audacious architectural project up and running and thus give birth to this exceptional place.

Originally built as a castle to repel Norse invaders in the 13th century, Eilean Donan has had a long and interesting (and chequered) history.

It sits at the meeting point of Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh in Scotland. As you might have guessed, this castle has adorned many a Scottish calendar and been frequently used in many movies and TV series e.g., Highlander.

Built immediately to the south of Linlithgow Palace, the church was much favoured as a place of worship by Scottish Kings and Queens. Mary, Queen of Scots, was born in Linlithgow Palace on 8 December 1542 and was baptised in St Michael’s Church.

"Built an opera house for you in the deepest jungle

And I walked across its stage, singing with my eyes closed

I've got a love for you I just can't escape

All of my love for you cuts me like barbed wire

Ooh, I was meant to love you

And always keep you in my life

Ooh, I was meant to love you

I knew I loved you at first sight"

Built in 1903, the Boldt Yacht House on Wellesley Island, adjacent to Bolt Castle on Heart Island, housed the Boldt’s family yachts and a houseboat. It also featured a shop to build racing launches and quarters for crew and staff. The building embodies the Golden Age structure’s shingle-style architecture. Inside the Yacht House, you will find a collection of antique wooden boats, courtesy of the Antique Boat Museum located in Clayton, New York. The Boldt Yacht House also features the landmark steam yacht Kestrel. It was designed by D. Crawford and built by George Lawley & Son shipyard in South Boston in 1892. After a succession of several owners, repairs and replacements, it was donated to the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority in 2009 for a permanent display at the Yacht House for the enjoyment of present and future generations. The steam yacht Kestrel is representative of the period and vessels owned and operated by George C. Boldt.

The Boldt Castle Yacht House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The lovely colours and markings of this Cheetah are well seen in this photograph taken within the Masai Mara National Park.

Built in 1907 and has an interior that is very similar to the style that the Titanic was finished in. Hope that this will open once again for tours so that I can see the inside.

Built in the USA, 5917 came into service in Australia on 12 March 1953. Originally built and operated as an oil-burning locomotive, it was later converted to burn coal. Loco 5917 was used to haul freight until it was withdrawal from service in August 1972.

Loco 5917 is here seen at Kendall, New South Wales, on a return with a steam shuttle excursion out of Wauchope, NSW.
