At the moment I read more than I shoot, I'm at chapter 12 of the Sony H50 user guide. Impatient to put to use what I was reading, I made a complete mess of all Sony's settings at IJmuiden yesterday :(
Add some 'shopping' to the 'shambles' and you get...... the tata bug !
Yes, I know it's a lousy photo...... please be patient with me
Phymata americana americana. Ambush bugs are predators which normally lie in wait for prey. They have front legs fitted for grasping, much like that of a praying mantis. They commonly sit on a flower waiting for insects attracted to flowers.
I was in the kitchen when I heard the girl cry out from the laundry room. "A bug!" she wailed. "Mommy, get rid of it! But, wait... before you get rid of it, will you take a picture first?" Oh, that's my girl!

The adult looks similar to this.
I initially thought this was a Spined Soldier Bug, but when I looked up Spined Soldier Bug, it doesn't look anything like this....
Photo taken in South Central Indiana (Brown County)
It can fold its legs and protuberant head completely, which is ''apparent death''. A bit uncanny but pretty behaivor :)
OK, so for a very long time I would see bug macros on flickr and not be impressed.
"Anybody can do that -- all they need is a macro lens. No big deal."
Now I have a macro, and boy was I wrong. Bug shots are *hard*. I'm happy with none of these, but hung them here as a work in progress. I think I'll get better at using this lens, but it takes practice.
While on an undercover mission to try and find out the bugs tactics, I spotted this well disguised bug. He was near Bardstown trying to get into the Bluegrass festival. He tried dressing the part and even had a fake guitar. Nice try bug. SQUASHED!!! Take this as a warning,,these bugs are desperate to try and infiltrate human society. Do not approach these vile creatures. If you spot a possible bug,,contact me as soon as possible with the location so I can get a team on it. Remember, this is our planet. We have to defend it no matter what. More on the last mission tomorrow.
