I'm very happy that we have local farmers that rotate the planting of sunflower fields each year nearby. This year, it was Lesher's Poultry Farm who took on the task, and what a beautiful site for it! The bees were all around, in what was undoubtedly a field-day for them. Me being allergic to certain types of the bee and hornet family, I do have a bit of trepidation with being in such close proximity to so many bees. But then I have to remind myself that I'm not there to mess with their day, and they're surely 1000% more interested in the veritable buffet than they ever would be with me in that situation. This then allows me to roam the fields, albeit maybe a tad more carefully than some, to take in the sights and even get some great shots of the bees enjoying the feast.
I love eating in hotel restaurants in Bangkok because you can get such an amazing variety of food in a buffet for so little money... there are people in Bangkok selling hotel cards that give discounts at the major hotels like Intercon, Crowne Plaza, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, Centara, Four Seasons, etc. The usual benefit of this card is 50% off for two people when you eat in a hotel restaurant...no limit in one year. Also, some free "buffet for two" coupons, free spa visit coupons, free buffet for two in some Phuket or Pattaya properties, and the like. Also, some coupons for "6 people eat and pay for 3" or "12 people eat and pay for 6" discount coupons. You pay typically $130-$150 for this card that lasts one year. I have one card that covers Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Renaissance hotels in Thailand and even in Manila and Kuala Lumpur. You go to one of these breakfast/lunch/dinner buffets, eat lobster, caviar, sushi, foie gras, oysters from France, etc and pay only half...typically about US $20-$30 for two people. Cheaper than eating at the Olive Garden I think ! You can get the 50% discount all year - no limit.
For breakfast, my fav is the Peninsula because at sunrise, you have a sunrise view of the rest of Bangkok from the Thonburi side of the river. I get up at 6AM and go down to their "lobby" office that is on the Bangkok side of the river (next to the Shangri La hotel) and take the free shuttle boat across the river to the main hotel. Great breakfast...I especially love the smoked salmon and croissants with brie and other cheeses (besides the usual suspects like ham etc). My only criticism is the coffee...they keep re-filling your cup and after the 3rd refill it looks pretty grungy.
Bernard Buffet
February 7.
Yesterday was my grandmother's memorial service. My dad (a preacher) gave a beautiful remembrance of her life and told some stories about her that I had never heard. How he did that without losing his cool was something I don't quite understand. He said later that he stuck to his notes and just kept going.
I got to see dozens of folks I hadn't seen in several years. People who looked after me in the church nursery and taught me in Sunday School. Many came from destinations way out of town in order to be there. And some had never even met my grandmother before -- they just wanted to be present in order to support my family. I find this incredibly touching.
Here's the post-memorial service buffet... before the macaroni and cheese were added to the spread.

What better way to start the day whilst waiting for the train at 07:30am; head for the station buffet and down a few vodkas with your coffee and cake! Ivano Frankivsk station on 23rd April 2017.

This was the cold buffet for the party. There were hot baguettes as well, plus loads of nibbles and fruit. People were very generous on the bring-a-bottle front so I think we had more wine at the end of the party than the start LOL! In the evening I did a big pan of chili with rice or baked potatoes, with options of tuna or sour cream for the taters too.
Seattle, WA. Celebrating the arrival of the first direct CDG/SEA flight - That alone justified the trip to the airport! Catering was amazing. I was so stuffed.
