Unaccountably, Sophia is dead keen on trains. While she currently works as a train steward on the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, she'd really like to be on the footplate - preferably the steam footplate. Here, she's in the secondman's seat of No 37 227.

My son has become more and more interested in photography lately. He's getting some pretty great shots for an eleven year old, too! I am especially impressed that although his point and shoot has an LCD on the back for framing the photo, Kol chooses to use the viewfinder instead.

The vines around Tsilivi are budding early - it is not even the end of March, and green shoots are evident in the vineyards. These vines are called "Korinthiako", from where the English word currant is derived, and are used for making raisins

New versions from the past

Rose bushes are often planted at the end of a row of grape vines to act as an early warning signal for infestation by diseases and insects like aphids. If the roses have black spots or root rot then the grape vines can be sprayed before damaged.

The jasmine vine or the mulla plant as it is called in malayalam seems to like this combination of sunny monsoon weather and is producing copious flowers, which will open in the evening to release their heady scent.
