The Royal Mile encapsulated in a bubble - Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011.

A group of humpback whales bubble net fishing. The paler green colour of the water around the whale is caused by reflection of the air bubbles that the whales have blown to surround a ball of fish before driving up through them with their mouths open to trap them within. The water is pushed out through fringes of the baleen plates in their upper jaws which act as a sieve, trapping the fish which are then swallowed. (There is a pretty neat video of bubble netting humpbacks on youtube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJvfjiCTvq4). As the whales surface fish jump to try to escape - which is why the birds are there. In fact the birds watch out for the tell-tale signs of the bubble net and gather well before the whales surface - a good clue as to where to look.

One of several salt lakes on Rottnest Island with the Wadjemup lighthouse on the distant horizon. You can't really tell, but the edge of the lake is lined with lots and lots of bubbles that waft through the air on a windy day.

An AWESOME dinner at Swanky Bubbles. I highly recommend it, and I'm sure Kris Smith does, too.
