I did not embroider a lot : I've been browsing the Internet to find the name of the Aglais urticae Linnaeus (or Small Tortoiseshell) butterfly to check colours out. What I found was quite disturbing : the wings are supposed to be reddish-orange and not brownish-yellow like my teacher's study piece looks on the photocopy of the design. As I'm quite obsessed with 'life-like' details (specially colors), I decided I'd buy some matching thread tomorrow. So here's the standby wip for today.

Fencing off an area used by a lot of browsing/grazing wildlife for the purpose of examining the natural difference in plant growth inside and outside the fence, is underway in several areas in Yellowstone National Park. These photos, of a small corner of a multi-acre exclosure in the northern-most part of the park, is one place the impact of browsing - and trampling - ungulates is very clear to see. Starting in late fall, and continuing into late spring, herds of bison, elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep have been eating at will, except where they've been locked out. The effect, on the sage brush in particular, is clear.

Coldwater Creek in Temecula is still on the process of closing their store so I decided to go take some more pictures because after all being a Member of 'Labelscar' I feel that I should help photo-document the loss of another retailer.

This is a picture of the store, red, yellow and black standard 'Store Closing Sale' signs everywhere and merchandise piled on tables, a truly sad sight to see.

Serves 4| Hands-On Time: 30m | Total Time: 40m

Ingredients

2 stale 7-inch pitas, split open

1 cucumber, quartered and thinly sliced

14 cherry tomatoes, halved

3 scallions, thinly sliced

1 small fennel bulb, cored and diced

2 stalks celery, sliced

2 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh mint

1/2 bunch roughly chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

juice of 1 lemon

1 clove garlic, finely chopped

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

store-bought hummus (optional)

Directions

Heat oven to 350° F.

Place the pita rounds on a baking sheet and toast in oven until crisp and light brown, about 10 minutes. Break into bite-size pieces and set aside.

Toss together the cucumber, tomatoes, scallions, fennel, celery, mint, and parsley. Cover and chill.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together the oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper.

Combine the vegetables and dressing and fold in the pita pieces. Serve with the hummus (if desired).

Note: used 10oz hummus. Used a bag of pita chips instead of pita bread. Half a bag of chips are enough for dinner for two. Added a couple falafels.

Hanging out at the tourist info centre in Pemberton while John got online looking for something.

Ok..ok...I'm a browser geek. Whenever I find a new and good one, I can't help installing a new one and have a test drive for a while. Now this one, Flock, is a good one that has really nice interface for blogging and flickring. I like it very much. Well... this one still has some downside, too. It hangs a bit before displaying new pages often. Maybe it's because the browser doesn't have any cached information on the new pages...

Browser got up on a car in the parking lot to get a better view of the area.

Browsing at the bookstall under Waterloo Bridge

After spending the afternoon browsing the shelves of Le Valet de Coeur, I came back to the apartment to make a lasagna for our dinner guests: Brigitte, Justin, Elodie & Nicolas. It was great seeing these guys again as it had been about 2 years since our last visit.

Elodie has grown up quite a bit but still has that same spark and personality she had when we last saw her. She loved posing for the camera and was even telling me when to push the trigger.

Just a concept. I made it as a self "portrait" but my nose far too big for this. Maybe I had to hire Voldemort as a modell. Or buy a smaller lens, or simply use Photoshop instead of shoting blind.
