Browsing the regular music stall at the Saturday street market in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh's Old Town. I've picked a few decent bargains on old vinyl albums from this stall myself, always good for a browse.
With the rains being so late this year the giraffe had resorted to browsing on the new growth from cabbage trees, not something I'd ever seen before.
If you zoom in you will also notice a red-billed oxpecker on the giraffe and a Fork Tailed Drongo waiting patiently for the giraffe to move and stir up some insects.

Today I was browsing through some files I had never done anything with. This was taken in September of last year and the original Raw file was very underexposed. That's probably the reason I had not developed it but I can't remember to be honest. At a loose end today, I gave it a go and it turned out to be an easy fix. Modern digital cameras are amazing in the detail that can be recovered.
This is Port Logan in what was formerly known as Wigtownshire and is now part of Dumfries and Galloway. My wife was brought up in Wigtownshire and we used to spend almost all of our holidays there, although we haven't been there for many years. Last September we were there on business and decided to have a drive round some of our favourite haunts. This is Port Logan shown off to best advantage by the early evening Autumn light.
I always thought that the structure at the end of the pier was some sort of lighthouse but reading Wikipedia today I discovered it is actually a bell tower. If it says so in Wikipedia it must be true!
During my brief jaunt over to Montana yesterday afternoon, I also encountered a herd of 8 to 10 mule deer that were grazing in one of the nearby fields. There were several does and a couple of bucks, this one being the more stately of the two, curious to see if I posed a threat even from so far away. (1-1-2025)
Shooting in blowing snow, I wanted to keep the soft effect while still making an attempt to mitigate movement by the deer, especially at such a distance, thus the slower shutter speed. It was a tradeoff either way but reasonably acceptable. I am seriously contemplating investing in the 150-600mm glass and possibly parting ways with this 100-400mm so as to obtain the extra reach without using any teleconverters. The versatility of the zoom is why I hesitate to obtain the 300mm f4 prime, even though I would probably be more apt to using one of the teleconverters with it, since it is faster than the variable f5-6.5 of the aforementioned zooms. The additional 200mm reach would fill frames far more nicely... Decisions, decisions... There is still a lot of work I need to achieve with my 100-400mm first. :)

April 27, 2015 on our way home after the blipmeet in Wanaka, Central Otago in New Zealand. www.polaroidblipfoto.com/browse/me
Pass at an altitude of 971 metres, on State Highway 8 between Central Otago to the south and the Mackenzie Country and North Otago to the north. Lindis Pass provides a break in the ranges that mark the northern edge of the Central Otago schist block, and is on the watershed that separates the Waitaki and Clutha River catchments. The pass was used by Māori and traversed by Otago surveyor John Turnbull Thomson in 1857; he named it for Lindisfarne island in north-east England, his home. Tarras, a locality on the approach to Lindis Pass, is named for a stream in Scotland.

This week while browsing baking blogs online, I came across this recipe at Lovin' from the Oven and figured after all the chocolates and cookies from the holidays, this could be a nice break!
The recipe was easy to follow and aside from adjusting the baking time because my oven is ridiculous and doesn't know how to hold heat, it was a pretty simple process!
Recipe for those interested:
Ingredients:
For the Bread
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 apple, peeled and chopped, mixed with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
For the glaze
- 1 cup of powdered sugar + 1-3 tablespoons of milk or cream, mixed together to a drizzling consistency
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan. (Or line with parchment paper, which is what I did because parchment paper is my best friend in the kitchen)
2. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl and set aside.
3. Cream together the white sugar and butter. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract.
4. Gradually stir in the flour and baking powder. Mix milk into batter until smooth.
5. Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan; the top with half the apples and half the brown sugar mixture.
6. Pour the remaining batter over apple layer; top with remaining apples and brown sugar mixture.
7. Swirl brown sugar mixture through apples using a knife. (Following instructions is hard, so I skipped this step... still turned out okay just not as visually appealing)
8. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. (Or if your oven is evil; bake for 65 minutes and hope for the best)
9. Let cool for 15 minutes before drizzling with glaze. (Or get distracted and come back an hour later to do this step)
Enjoy!
Hope everyone is having a sweet Sunday!

Browsing the reduced rails and trying on a selection of dresses will banish your worries and bring happiness. This was specially true for me in this dress. As I stepped out of my little room to check this dress in the big mirror at the end of the corridor, another woman said "That's beautiful!" Women are not ashamed to do these things for each other.
Have you ever been looking for one thing – at home or while browsing the web for example – and accidentally stumbled upon something else, but that is just as interesting? Something similar happened to the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope a couple of years ago. While observing distant galaxies lying billions of light-years away, the telescope serendipitously spotted several asteroids, small Solar System objects that reside ‘only’ a few tens to hundreds of millions of kilometres from Earth.
Asteroids are mainly found in an area called the ‘main belt’, between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. More than 700 000 asteroids have been identified to date, and predictions indicate that many more might be out there, each left over from the early days when planets were taking shape around the Sun.
The curved or S-shaped streaks in this image are trails created by asteroids as they move along their orbits. Rather than leaving one long trail, the asteroids appear in multiple Hubble exposures that have been combined into one image. The image shows a total of twenty asteroid trails, belonging to seven unique objects; five of these were new discoveries – too faint to be seen previously.
This week, a team of astronomers, planetary scientists and software engineers based at ESA and other research institutes has launched a new citizen science project: the Hubble Asteroid Hunter. The project was developed as part of the Zooniverse – the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research.
The new project features a collection of archival Hubble images where calculations indicate that an asteroid might have been crossing the field of view at the time of the observation. Everyone can participate! By identifying the asteroids potentially present in these images and marking the exact position of their trails, you too can help the team improve the asteroid orbit determination and better characterise these objects. Precise knowledge of the orbit is particularly important for so-called near-Earth asteroids, those potentially flying close to our planet.
This image was taken as part of the Frontier Fields program, a Hubble initiative to push the telescope’s limits, observing six massive galaxy clusters – huge cosmic objects comprising hundreds of galaxies along with hot gas and dark matter – and exploiting their effect as a gravitational ‘lens’ on background sources to capture light from extremely distant galaxies.
While observing each cluster with one of the cameras on Hubble, the team also used a different camera, pointing in a slightly different direction, to photograph six so-called ‘parallel fields’. This maximised Hubble’s observational efficiency in doing deep space exposures, imaging a myriad of far away galaxies.
This picture, first published in 2017, shows the parallel field for the galaxy cluster Abell 370. It was assembled from images taken in visible and infrared light and contains thousands of galaxies, including massive yellowish ellipticals and majestic blue spirals. Much smaller, fragmentary blue galaxies are sprinkled throughout the field. The reddest objects are most likely the farthest galaxies, whose light has been stretched into the red part of the spectrum by the expansion of space.
The position of this field on the sky is near the ecliptic, the plane of our Solar System. This is the region in which most asteroids orbit the Sun, which is why Hubble astronomers saw so many crossings. Hubble deep-sky observations taken along a line-of-sight near the plane of our Solar System commonly record asteroid trails.

Grove Arcade Building - Asheville, NC
The Arcade Building was constructed between 1926 and 1929. It was designed by architect Charles N. Parker in the Tudor Gothic Revival style. Built by E.W. Grove, it has since remained one of Asheville's architectural marvels.
It served as a commercial shopping center until World War II, after which it housed government agencies including the National Climatic Data Center. It was reopened as a public market in 2002.
This photograph shows the Grove Arcade Building just after it's completion. It is from the E.M. Ball Collection. Link is to the University Archives of the Ramsey Library at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

One thing I’m aware of when I crossdress as a woman is just how much inner joy and excitement I feel. I am not unhappy with my life as a man yet when I dress up as a woman I feel more confident and at ease. I have no intention of ever becoming a woman full time through surgery and hormones but I definitely desire to spend time presenting as a female.
I have deep fears about this as the reality is I am not a woman and can never really know what that reality is like for real women. I am merely a facade and, the bottom line, a man enjoying himself wearing make-up and women’s clothing. I admit there is a part of me that always wanted to be a girl but I see this as a mild existence of transsexualism. It’s not enough to make me transition but I feel it is partly what motivates me to dress up as a woman.
I say dress up as that is undeniably an aspect I really enjoy. It is also a form of performance. I am playing a role I have created. Like an actor adopting a character for their performance. I do get into being my female alter-ego and have at times felt so at home when I become her that I am thrilled to believe I am a woman. Ultimately, I know I’m not and I am in that privileged position of enjoying myself wearing make-up, dresses, heels and shaving my legs. All that I do is create an illusion of being a woman. The reality for women is not all about make-up, hair, clothes and high heels. I’m aware I am focusing on aspects of femininity that men find attractive when women choose them. My fear is I am insulting women by doing this. For me I have a deep desire to dress up as a woman but I feel maybe I am indulging in a male fantasy of women. It’s an awareness that causes me some unease about my cross-dressing.
I find emotionally I do feel more free when I cross-dress and I become somewhat delusional. I find myself not wanting to be a man ever again. That emotion is powerful and it always occurs yet I know within a few hours it will lose it’s potency and I do return to being a man.
I like feeling feminine and I dream, oh how I dream, of looking feminine. I feel very much at home appearing as a woman and do experience a yearning for it to be real. I am also aware a part of me is enjoying the thrill of dressing up, the make-up, the wigs, the dresses and the high heels, it is more a case of female impersonation than being a true female.
I know my description of myself as a transvestite is a description most cross-dressers despise but the reality is I am a transvestite! I live as a man but I occasionally like to dress up as a woman. That dressing up does bring out emotional responses from within me and I do love the feeling of presenting myself as a woman. It enables the part of me that wishes I was girl some freedom and yet I always feel a bit like an actor playing a role.
I am genuinely thrilled I am a transvestite, I like being one and I like the knowledge I’m a man yet I can put on make-up and a dress and enjoy myself wearing them. It’s not what most men wish to do but since the growth of the Internet I have become aware that far more men than I ever could have imagined also enjoy dressing up as women. The term transvestite may not be popular but I am delighted to know there are a lot of us all over the world. As a teenager, I felt alone with my desire to dress up as a woman so it’s still a marvel to me to realise so many men feel the same way. Just browsing here on Flickr is proof of that!
Three moose spent all day wandering around our cabin browsing the willows, so I decided to tip-toe outside and see how close I could get to the Mama and her two babies. As it turned out I got very close. I could clearly hear her stripping the leaves from the willow shoots. From time to time she would grunt, snort, and make other moosey sounds to communicate with her twins. All that stood between me and her was a four foot tall, spindly spruce tree. Suddenly she stopped munching - stared at me through the brush - made a sound to her kids - and simultaneously they all dashed off into the forest - making a lot of noise as they crashed through the brush.
I turned toward the cabin, enjoying the warm sun, and noticed that my rhubarb bed was aglow with bright red colors. Kneeling down - I captured this image as the sun backlit a huge leaf. It is definitely the beginning of autumn in the far north.
