All of our lives...broken windows...
"And we used to sleep on the beach here, sleep overnight..they don't do that anymore. Things changed...you see.
They don't sleep anymore on the beach. "
~Godspeed You! Black Emperor
The black sands of superstition taking over the greed of daytime lust.
I rescued this large mirror from a wall at my church that was torn down a few months ago. I saved it for a friend who wanted it for her living room. It needed a frame, so I made one for it and stained it blue, her favorite color. I had put a lot of work into learning how to make this frame for the glass, and then putting it all together. It sat in my living room for two weeks, finished and ready to be delivered. But, Saturday morning, just 24 hours from delivering it to my friend who was so excited to be finally getting it, it fell. This was one of those little events in life that makes you scratch your head. I have no idea what made it fall, or why it decided to move itself from the wall it was leaning against and topple over to its end. TJ and Neko were standing in front of it, not touching it, and ran for their lives! They escaped, but were frightened to the core. This is the only photo I have of the project, and the way it turned out, and perhaps that's a good thing. I saved the frame in hopes of finding a piece of mirror the same size or larger that could maybe be cut to fit.
The frame just snapped whilst I was cleaning my lenses. And of course, it happened after the warranty expired! (Luckily I have another pair)

Recently there was a terrible fire in my area. One person died and at least 50 people lost their homes and all their things. Much of the apartment building was just broken up. Sadly, it was the 7th fire, at that apartment complex, in just a few years time. In the end, more lives could have been lost. Things are just things. Our lives are so much more important than the things that we own.

The NSW mining city of Broken Hill. A very flat landscape, except for mining waste piles. The photo was taken from Miners Memorial. just outside Broken Hill. Also notice the iconic Indian Pacific train.
Mine is the sunlight,
Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play,
Praise with elation, praise ev'ry morning,
God's recreation of the new day.

20+ year old corporate swag, a little digital clock that says "SoftQuad XMetaL" and "www.softquad.com". The clock is in the shape of an @ sign and conclusively dates between the end of 1998 and the beginning of 2003.
Its arm is broken.
I almost worked for SoftQuad, but the company was acquired by Corel just before I was hired. I did, however, continue working for XMetaL for the next 17 years. I found this little clock in a junk drawer in the office once upon a time, a vestige of what were already the old days.
