Recently there was a terrible fire in my area. One person died and at least 50 people lost their homes and all their things. Much of the apartment building was just broken up. Sadly, it was the 7th fire, at that apartment complex, in just a few years time. In the end, more lives could have been lost. Things are just things. Our lives are so much more important than the things that we own.
Pistachio nuts broken out of their shells and arranged in a small wooden bowl.

20+ year old corporate swag, a little digital clock that says "SoftQuad XMetaL" and "www.softquad.com". The clock is in the shape of an @ sign and conclusively dates between the end of 1998 and the beginning of 2003.
Its arm is broken.
I almost worked for SoftQuad, but the company was acquired by Corel just before I was hired. I did, however, continue working for XMetaL for the next 17 years. I found this little clock in a junk drawer in the office once upon a time, a vestige of what were already the old days.
The NSW mining city of Broken Hill. A very flat landscape, except for mining waste piles. The photo was taken from Miners Memorial. just outside Broken Hill. Also notice the iconic Indian Pacific train.
Broken lines, broken strings
Broken threads, broken springs
Broken idols, broken heads
People sleeping in broken beds
Ain’t no use jiving
Ain’t no use joking
Everything is broken
Broken bottles, broken plates
Broken switches, broken gates
Broken dishes, broken parts
Streets are filled with broken hearts
Broken words never meant to be spoken
Everything is broken
Seem like every time you stop and turn around
Something else just hit the ground
Broken cutters, broken saws
Broken buckles, broken laws
Broken bodies, broken bones
Broken voices on broken phones
Take a deep breath, feel like you’re chokin'
Everything is broken
Every time you leave and go off someplace
Things fall to pieces in my face
Broken hands on broken ploughs
Broken treaties, broken vows
Broken pipes, broken tools
People bending broken rules
Hound dog howling, bullfrog croaking
Everything is broken -- Bob Dylan

My photography is featured in a video interview on the Yahoo home page for the Weekly Flickr! Hyperventilating a bit… THANK YOU FLICKR! Check it out:

I’ve decided that with having my foster care and adoption inspired series Stories Worth Telling (SWT) featured in such a way, I am going to continue the series over the next year. This is the first image to continue my series and I couldn’t be more excited to be telling stories of challenges, hopes and triumphs of foster kids!
If you're interested in directly supporting foster kids AND my artwork and the continuation of this series, check out my online store! 50% of proceeds for SWT related products go towards sending foster kids to camp and hopefully brighter futures!
Not being in control, time being broken, this just about sums up my last week pretty well. i have a new job at work but I'm still doing my old one as well until a replacement is found. I have a wedding to edit. I coach football and last Saturday we had two matches in the morning. In the afternoon it was Thomas's birthday party and I took 12 ten year olds to play football followed by a macdonalds. Tuesday was my sons school show, Wednesday was football training, Thursday my in laws arrived to stay with us, Yesterday was my daughters birthday and today we have horse riding and my daughters party. On top of all this my router broke and so we have not had broadband. A friend has let me borrow a spare one until my new one arrives and I spent most of last night trying to troubleshoot that. ......and breathe. I'm really looking forward to sitting down, drinking coffee and catching up with all of your photostreams. Have a lovely Easter. I know I'm going to try to.
2009-08-24: Sunrise at the glacial lake on the east face of Broken Top.
This is just a couple minutes before this shot. It was neat to watch the texture of the frozen water change as the sun and temperature rose.
I haven't posted anything in months, and I actually haven't shot much in that time. This week, I'm posting some outtakes from the past to motivate me to get out there again.
