Built for Brickscalibur 2022 - The Frozen Wilds. I've never built a castle before, so I decided to enter a castle contest. In the end, I have still not built a castle. Maybe next year.

Went with a rather simple concept for this build. It was a challenge to get any detail out of an environment that is entirely white snow!

An entry for the Medieval Micro catagory for Brickscalibur 2023. I've been wanting to use the DUPLO vine for this purpose for a while, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Trained in secret by a legendary Blade Master, this young woman was accompanying her famous brother on his way to the Brickscalibur Tournament, when their their nightcamp was sudenly attacked by a group of bandits.

When she saw her beloved brother dying in a hail of arrwos, she picked up his blade and fought her way through the attackers, killing each and every one of them.

When the morning finally came and she and her remaining companions buried the fallen comrades, she swore that she would take her brothers place in the Brickscalibur Tournament and win the legendary blade -for the pride of the family.

The castle of crockery

Once upon a time in a modern kingdom, there was a cook who was a little too creative. At the end of every banquet. He made his own castle with what he had on hand, a chopping board as a bridge, plate and platter as a tower, red glasses for the two of you and the sink as a moat.

My first submission for this years Brickscalibur.

First I wanted to use the sailorsman perspective, but it became a odd picture.

So I had to choose another perspective, and why not that of a falcon?

I hope you like it as much as I do!

Build for the "Far East Elegance" category of Brickscalibur, as well as the "Religious Building" category of CCCXXI.

Attempting to steal the Beholder’s treasure, a band of daring adventurers fall prey to the eye tyrant’s powers… and terrible string of bad luck. Grumman, the orc warrior, was the first to be hit by a petrification spell turning him to stone followed by Bappin, the halfling bard, who had his lute torn from this grip by the aberration’s telekinetic beam. Next, Silwynne, the satyress ranger, succumbed to the creature’s charm ray and is now in love with the abomination. Hope to save the day, Iris the mage unfortunately fumbled her magic potion spilling its potent contents at her feet. Meanwhile, Tirnoc, the elven rogue, had eyes only for the prize and was blissfully unaware his comrades’ struggles nor of the danger looming behind him.

Jinkies! I found some sort of riddle.

According to the Templar’s Journal:

“Ye who seeketh truth upon high, must first descend to the darkest depths…

Follow the righteous path…

Traverse evils most foul…

Push forth through barriers unseen…

Rise above to attain the answers you seek.

A warning! -Do not stray from the light. For if you do, only ruin, damnation and death await.”

It too had been a confusing night for the young prince of the land. He had slipped out of his fancy room to take a calming night walk, but on his return back to the castle the guards had blocked his entrance, even as he pleaded that he was, in fact, the real prince. But they told him the real prince had been brought in an hour earlier. And so, defeated, the real prince walked away from the castle, his head slumped with sadness. He made his way down the dirty streets of the city, hoping to find a place with warmth and a place to sleep. Finally he found what he was looking for; a few commoner folk sat around a fire telling tales of joyous days and wondrous battles of old. He joined them assuming they would kick him out; but he at least wanted to try. But no! They welcomed him and invited him to tell stories with them too. After a wonderful night filled with laughter and happiness, the prince decided he would try again to gain entry into the castle. This time, to his surprise they let him in mumbling something about a fake prince that had spent the night and ran away. As the young prince walked the halls of the castle, walking past his father’s throne. He thought about how someday, that would be his throne. And, remembering his laughter-filled night, he decided that when he was king, the whole world would be happy not just a few.

It had been a confusing night for the young commoner. One minute he had been trying to beg the guards outside of the castle for food or money. The next minute they had confused him with the prince of the region and were ushering him inside of the castle. He had spent a night in a comfortable bed not arguing with the guards because he badly wanted to experience the life of a nobleman. At first he enjoyed the luxuries of being rich. He got a comfortable bed, nice clothes (Though they looked so hot and stuffy he refused them), and many servants to wait on him and deliver him warm delicious food. That was until the king who believed him to be his son, had made him join a royal council meeting with all the lords of the region. He went to the council meeting eagerly expecting to meet many kind lords and ladies. But the council was nothing like he expected. Nobody was kind and welcoming, the closest thing to kindness were the fake smiles plastered on the faces of the noblemen and women. But after the first five minutes every noble was frowning, two of the nobles even erupted into a shouting match. That is when the young commoner learned the truth, nobles were not happy because they had money and power; in fact it was the opposite. Because they had so much power, they would always want more. Perhaps they were rich with money, but they were not rich with happiness. The young commoner slipped away, deciding this life was not for him.

This is my submission for brickscaliburs category Enchanted forest. Im not too satisfied with the outcome as a whole or the poor quality of photo. But I spent some stressful time this last day to at least finish the build for the deadline so...

Description:

“For many years the old manor in the deep forest had been the home of many wealthy creatures. But after the vanishing of the latest resident peculiar events had started taking place.

The small river changed its colour, and the animals and plants in direct contact with it as well. Weird mushroom started popping up and the very ground turned damp and dark. The whole manor appeared to transform into something… earthly. Branches started growing out from the beams and small roots made its way out from cracks by some windows.

Something was going on….. and only some kind of servant could be seen lurking about. Whoever was the master of the manor, was someone, or something else. Either way it had a pet. A large black flying beast of some sort. And you could sometimes here the loud screams from the servant as the beast came diving down from the rooftops……

Here's my first entry for the 2024 Summer Joust, 12x12 vignette category. This vignette is a call back to a vignette I did 3 years ago for Brickscalibur, another barrel accident, similar setup, but improved style and techniques. The landscape and greenery is improved, the road turned into a river with waterfalls, the water mill sits on slight angle.

This is my submission to the ‘Fantastic feasts’-category for Brickscalibur and also an entry of book III- challenge 11 for Guilds of Historica.

“For years and years small domestic commerce and trades simply took place by the cliffs on the riverside.

In time Wifgrir, the duke of Dandelume, saw a great potential in the location in this riverside part of his municipality. Mostly due to its availability from water and nearby larger roads. He therefore ordered a completion of a small fortification and garrisoned soldiers within.

With time of relative peace and stability the trading routes brought goods and merchants from near and far. The dandelumians could storage and bargain their notorious avalonian wine and earthenware for merchandise from all over Historica.

It was common for the garrisoned soldiers to have their meals, large or small, outside the eastern walls of the fortification, to have a moments peace and quiet from the noisy commerce going on inside. This also gave them time to check the stored wine and see to the earthenware in an enclosed space.”

The Academy of Wizarding Sciences is the heart and purpose of the Library. These are high functioning wizards capable of channeling the mana required for advanced magics. They examine items brought in by the Ordo Ex Libris, conduct theoretical research into the magical arts, and produce the spells and weapons that arm the Library's expeditions. (And of course, they maintain the actual catalogue of books.)

Fig 3. shows a few scenes from around their campus. Left to right, a professor examines the corpse of a dark jester (fig.1) while a magical automaton (a "teacher's pet") takes notes. Imagine being a kid living on a farm back in medieval times. What do you do for fun when all your chores are done? Well Leif and Sven use their favourite farm animals to have epic races around the farm, pretending to be in a colosseum like the old man Julius keeps talking about. But who’s the fastest? Sven and his goat or Leif and his pig?

Together with flickr.com/photos/30041364@N08, we built these for the collaborative category of Brickscalibur - The Crazy Goat-Cart race. We have a goat, we have carts, and because Dan is hooked on motorizing everything, we have a crazy up-scaled size that can even race for real! Check out the video for a little sample of the cart actually driving.

This has been quite the ride! Or race? Thanks to Dan for designing the motor assembly and for coming up with this crazy idea. I’ve had a lot of fun! The most challenging part for me (aside from getting it to actually drive on my not very suitable for the task floors), was designing the pig. When I started out my collection of medium nougat consisted of maybe 10 different types of parts, including plates, tiles and bricks. Needless to say, my collection of medium nougat has grown a lot since then… Getting the head shaped especially was really challenging, but I am really pleased with the result!

It took approximately 2 months to design and build this funny building and I enjoyed every moment of it! There are no skipped corners regarding design and construction-wise here. Meaning it's a complete building and everything is connected to internal frames, angels parts via hinges, no illegal techniques, no flex tubes etc. Piece count is unknown but for sure it's ridiculous for such a small thing.

Hydronius the wizard and his old rival Pyros finally found the perfect opportunity to settle the score once and for all, both summoned an elemental dragon to fight alongside them when they met on the tournament of wizardry.

Both mages clad in their dark robes, with their elemental dragon besides them were to face off in an epic duel, neither would want to forfeit.

“In a small medieval town, there lived a boy named Leo, who had the special power of fire. His best friend, a girl named Mia, could control snow. They often played near the big gate of their town, laughing and having fun. Leo would create little flames that danced in the air, while Mia made beautiful snowflakes that floated around them. Their friendship was filled with joy as they enjoyed their unique abilities together.”

Red Dwarf

"In ages past a comet passed by a red dwarf and myth has it that because of this, dark magic cursed the celestial rock. Whence it crashed onto the peaceful lands of Ardeth, a small band of 13 dwarves mined it for the unique red ore that was held within. Little did they know that it would place on them a dreadful curse imbuing them with powerful dark magic. From their glowing eyes, armored spikes, and their magical lava-like orbs they used as weapons, they were nicknamed the Red Dwarves.

An army of dwarves and elves banded together to fight the fearsome creatures but an entire battalion was wiped out by just a single Red Dwarf. A combination of dark magic, thick iron armor, and the fierce warrior spirit of a dwarf made these dreadful foes. Only 1 of the 13 was ever killed by the dragon, Morgrid at the cost of his very life.

Now the land these dwarves inhabit has been condemned as forbidden and anyone who wanders there must assume his life as forfeit as the likelihood of surviving an encounter with a legendary Red Dwarf, who roam the lands as a cursed zombie like being, is certain death."

This is by far the most complex and heaviest builds I've done so far (15.4lbs). It has roughly 15k pieces and uses the Light my Bricks light kits.

I hope you enjoy this build.

« Travelling through the Silver Mountains is all bird songs and fresh air and smooth carriageways until a berserk furball jumps out of the bushes. No later than this morning, a great four-in-hand of the Dark Elves learned it the hard way. Or was it fast enough to escape ? I don’t know… » - Ivo, forester.

A collaboration with Sympatik Brick for the "Crazy Goat Cart Race" category of Brickscalibur.

Check out his part of the collaboration here!

A true nature boy: Rangolf is a man of the woods. Always a smile on his face and always ready for a good fight. Intrigued by rumors about the legendary blade "Brickscalibur", a magical sword that is said to bow to its owners wishes, he instantly knew he had to participate in the tournament.

Confident in his impressive fighting-abilities, he already thinks of how to transform the legendary blade "Brickscalibur" into the mightiest Battle-Axe the world has ever seen.

For as long as anyone can remember, people in the settlements of the secret lands have been talking about a mighty and evil green dragon with white wings of an eagle. The monster dwelling is the ancient crystal cave. Nobody has never seen him up close! He's quite a big guy, and it's natural to feel scared when you first lay eyes on him. In that moment, all you can do is run, and that's okay!

And so it came to pass that also the bravest Dungeon Master group (I'm sure you know who I mean)

* Winnifred the Weird Warrior

*Parzival the picky Paladin

*Hilda the hyperactive Healer, who is also one of the bravest dungeon masters of all time!

*Marla the moody Mage!

*And let's not forget Brunhilde the brave Bard!

*Nero the nefarious necromancer

and he's got his skeletons, Nobody, Nolegs, and Nothing!

And there's one more

*Hector the hilarious Hunter!

heard about this creature. Without a moment's hesitation, they set out on a journey to find and defeat this terrible creature. They were the strongest, smartest, and bravest, and they were going to succeed!

“It was a day of normal harmony at the Hamajuzi estate. The labourers were tending to the small rice terraces and the lord was taking a short stroll beneath the falling leaves with his daughter. However, a loud scream from his wife disturbed the serenity.

‘I see him, I see him!’ she yelled across the stone floors in the direction of the stairs leading up their living quarters.

And soon the lord could see for himself, the helmet of his son appearing over the steps. He was returning from his service in the war. The lord hurried the best he could supported by his daughter. His wife stood frozen, stretching her arm towards the long gone son. He was home.”

For decades, the dwarves were terrorized by the notorious fire-breathing dragon Brume Embertongue who frequently raided their mine and forge taking what treasures the dwarves had. But, when the dragon stole their kegs of ale was when Thorian Redbeard could take no more. Trusty axe in hand, Thorian saw to it that the Embertongue’s reign of terror was ended forever. Never come between a dwarf and his ale.

Finally got around to posting my revamp of one of my Brickscalibur entries (Trading Places category).

Horses are the dominant mode of transportation throughout much of Historica. Farriers are never short of work, with entire families taking up the trade. One such family are the Ogden family, with all three generations of men taking part in the family business. Though advanced in years, Josiah Ogden still has the prowess needed to tend to horse hoofs. His son, Johan Ogden, focuses on preparing horse shoes, while also teaching his own son, Jeremiah, the tools of the trade.

Many farriers will also accept centaur clients, with one such client being Brielle Valken on of her (much needed) days off! Healthy hoofs make a healthy centaur!

Pilgrimage has a strong tradition in all mayor religions. In medieval time it was an integrated part of life, as a way to show devoation, gain blessings and achieving redemption and forgiveness for sins.

Here is my take on a pilgrim stopping over at a local church, heading home from his journey to Santiago de Compostella where he got his scallop as a sign of his pilgrimage.

"In a village near a river the blacksmith settled down, to provide the kingdom with magically crafted tools and weapons. Not only did he use the power of fire to make the metal glow, but he also harnessed the power of water, which was far stronger than his pure muscles. Only in winter, when the river sometimes froze over and the blacksmith had to clear the ice from the mill wheel, did his forging work stop briefly, but otherwise it was his greatest treasure and advantage."

By the way, the inspiration for the type of hammer that the blacksmith uses here is a trip hammer: (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trip_hammer)
