The fog was beginning to lift. The water was still. You could see the blue sky and clouds reflecting off of the water. It was very surrealistic.
With each swallow you can number the times the warmth touches your throat, your lungs, your diaphragm. Until it dissipates and suddenly you can't reach for another swallow soon enough. The heat seeps through your body while you remember those Tuesday evenings as a kid. When your mom would pull the linens out of the dryer and wrap you in them before they'd have a chance to cool. You think this is the definition of love: A warm gesture. A hiccup in time just long enough to feel thankful for silly things like hot soup and clean laundry and the urge to look up to find windows where windows don't usually belong.

Spots still open for the Texas Landscape Safari this Fall. Come to Texas and join us this October.
On Monday, Carl and I ate lunch in Lake Jackson at All-Star Pizza. We had the delicious buffet of pizza, calzones, and cookies. Afterwards we drove to Brazos Bend State Park where we saw some wildlife exhibits and saw some wildlife: butterflies, a deer, a snake, baby alligators, some birds, and a baby coyote?
Then we drove to the museum district of Houston. At the Houston Museum of Natural Science, we toured two exhibits: Terra Cotta Warriors and the Spirits & Headhunters: Vanishing Worlds of the Amazon. We also saw the skeletons of some dinosaurs and exhibits of animals from Africa.
We had planned to go to the Houston Zoo since it was open free to the public on Columbus Day, but they wouldn't let us inside since it was less than an hour before closing time. Instead we found Hermann Park with a pond, some ducks, some coy, a turtle, and some statues. It was a nice find at the end of the day.
We drove back to Lake Jackson and ate a most delicious steak at Salt Grass Steak House before returning to Carl's house for me to pack up and leave early the next morning.

A juvenile Vermillion Flycatcher at Brazos Bend - it was fighting with or generally cavorting around with the adult for quite a while.

March 24,2015. Baby owl (Owlet) was getting hungry as it was late in the afternoon. It kept opening it's mouth but mom just sat in the next tree over.
