Brazos Bend SP, 40 Acre Lake

Photographed at Brazos Bend State Park, Wharton Co., TX. I was there as part of a Meetup group with 30+ other photographers. Early morning photographs.

On Monday, Carl and I ate lunch in Lake Jackson at All-Star Pizza. We had the delicious buffet of pizza, calzones, and cookies. Afterwards we drove to Brazos Bend State Park where we saw some wildlife exhibits and saw some wildlife: butterflies, a deer, a snake, baby alligators, some birds, and a baby coyote?

Then we drove to the museum district of Houston. At the Houston Museum of Natural Science, we toured two exhibits: Terra Cotta Warriors and the Spirits & Headhunters: Vanishing Worlds of the Amazon. We also saw the skeletons of some dinosaurs and exhibits of animals from Africa.

We had planned to go to the Houston Zoo since it was open free to the public on Columbus Day, but they wouldn't let us inside since it was less than an hour before closing time. Instead we found Hermann Park with a pond, some ducks, some coy, a turtle, and some statues. It was a nice find at the end of the day.

We drove back to Lake Jackson and ate a most delicious steak at Salt Grass Steak House before returning to Carl's house for me to pack up and leave early the next morning.

A quick not to all of my Flickr Friends that I'm going to be extremely busy with the Wings Over Houston Airshow for the next five days and not have time to comment. Hope to be back to normal comments on Monday of next week.

This is a very large alligator that I saw on my visit to Brazos Bend State Park last week. Not much happening out there but this guy had taken up residence on one of the observation platforms on Elm Lake. No one was arguing with him about wanting him to move.

There is an alligator facing the opposite direction on that island

Wikipedia: "Although alligators have heavy bodies and slow metabolisms, they are capable of short bursts of speed that can exceed 30 miles per hour, though this could more properly be classified as a short fast lunge rather than a dash."

This is an image that amused me. As you can see it doesn't take much. We all know it is only appropriate that one properly adorn ones head when going our for a strole around the neighborhood.
