We stared at each other while I made a few shots. When I started to walk down the trail, he swam alongside of me. When I stopped, he stopped. When I started again, he started. I guess he was very curious.
Brazos Bend State Park in SE Texas
There is this old song that says, "The battle is over, the victory is mine..." After watching this fight for breakfast versus life for about an hour of so. The gator had finally got the snake spun around to where it could get its head down his throat. Research shows that after this meal that the gator may not need to eat for a week or more. Wow, life so fleeting so quick, enjoy it and make sure you are right while life is here!! You never know when it is your time to go.
Caught this male Northern Cardinal hunting near the surface of the swamp, Crawfish seemed to be the target. Brazos Bend State Park. Cardinalis cardinalis

An alligator in duck weed watching me. It's crazy interesting how they can hide right in plain site.
Caught this young Red shouldered Hawk at Brazos Bend State Park after his late afternoon meal of snake. Still see part of it on the limb. Young bird still trying to get his adult plumage completely. Buteo lineatus
Alligator swimming lazily along in 40 Acre Lake at Brazos Bend State park and headed to the pier to check out the photographer. No aggression here, just curiosity. It was a very cool morning, but these guys were still active. I know there was one posted earlier that made Explore, but I must admit that I had taken this shot before that one went up. And yes, I was standing on the pier.
I once made the statement that we don’t have a lot of color here in Texas during fall but some trees present a bit of a flash for a brief period! Creekfield Lake was quite beautiful on this day in November as I searched for something to frame in the new Nikon! I must say that that even though I am trying to switch to Nikon this old antique Sony stays in the bag and is a camera that I use for a number of sunrise/sunset captures! It worked nicely for scenic captures as well! Photos were taken at Brazos Bend State Park! Not too bad for a 7 year old 12 MP camera.
A bit more information about Brazos Bend State Park! The drought several years ago heavily impacted the wildlife at this sanctuary and I am sure that the recovery will take a number of years! This is the first year since 2011 that there has been an overflow of water in this area and at one time water was being pumped out of the Brazos River just to maintain a minimal level of water in the main lakes!
My first visit there a few years before the drought occurred resulted in a sensory overload for my hearing! There were so many natural bird sounds filling the air that I thought that I had stepped into a movie set where someone was piping the sound in! It was and still is an amazing place!
