Jacques Lavoisier emceed and DJ'd to 3000+ people at the gala of the Global Teacher Prize at Atlantis The Palm in Dubai (UAE). Other performers included Jennifer Hudson and RedOne.
The Global Teacher Prize is awarded at the end of the Global Education and Skills Forum by the Varkey Foundation, to honor all the teachers of the world.
Dancers on stage were wearing EMOTIV's Insight neuroheadset to monitor their brainwaves in real time. The brainwaves were then transformed in visual art and projected on a 360° screen to the delight of the audience.

Duck Day!

That brand new yellow jumper, later got sprayed with duck poop.
So - I had arranged at the beginning of the week to go see two young Indian Runner Duck crosses at Toovies this morning at 11am.
Thursday evening... Theresa rang and said - 'I've found a pair of Indian Runner Ducks I was going to get you for your birthday, but I thought I better check - they're in Crawley Down, I'm going at 12.30 on Saturday!' Argh! Biggest coincidence ever. 'I'll take you to see them'.
I explained the situation... she said, 'I'll move the other one back, you go see those, then come see these, and you can decide which you want, then I'll buy them for your b-day'.
Well - I had sort of already said I'd buy these others, but I said I'd go look at these others - thinking I may be able to mix and match some depending on sex. Or get some females from this other lady another time...

Basically, I woke up - fed everything, did loads of stuff, then drove to Toovies Farm in Horley, got two Indian Runner cross ducks/ducklings [born 16th Sep '09], went straight to Family Cook's - Hurst Farm, got chicken/duck/dog supplies, went home, housed ducks, cleaned out chickens, Theresa arrived to take me to Sandhill Farm, to look at the other Indian Runners.
We hadn't taken the money or a box, so Theresa said to the lady we'd be back by 2.15pm so she could do her feeding rounds at 2.30... we got home... it was about 2.05... then everyone decided they didn't want to go back with me... so I had to then do this mad rush to find enough cash and another un-caked-in-duck-poo box, on my own... and drove back myself with Ben to pick up two Fawn and White Indian Runner Ducks, hoping I wasn't late as the lady was busy and had to stand and wait to let me in her electric gate.
Urh!
So anyway... got those okay...
And then I had four ducks...
Erm...
Right...
So they're all in with the chickens now, with their own house, seem happy enough. The IRD crosses seemed to pick everything up with ease, knowing how to use the house, drinker, feeder and jumping in the tubtrug for a splash and a swim... they didn't even seem put out that we dropped the house while moving it with them in it [I know, I know... we obviously didn't mean to, it just happened, and it wasn't far off the ground and they were fine and quite safe in their pod].
The other ones are a bit stupid, and scared of people... it took me probably nearing two hours before I got them into the nest.
They didn't go in by themselves, so I left them. I shut up the chickens so it was the only shelter left... they still didn't go in... I tried to round them up and catch them, but they just ran off every time, and I didn't want to stress them any more.
Then I went to get a sheet to throw over them [that's how I have to catch the legbars - cos they are idiots, and terrified of everything - pretty idiots, but still idiots...] that didn't work either - they're too fast.
Then I shut the run to the Eglu Go, where the other two were, and tried to guide them in to the big open door at the back - they went right past it.
Then I had a brainwave and shuffled the house towards the fence a little, and blocked one side off against the fence with the sheet.
I guided them round into the corner so they had no where to go other than in...
Apparently they did, they went between the sheet and the netting.
I tied it up better.
They pushed through harder.
Just when I was about to give up, looking round for something to use to help and seeing nothing - I had a thought!
I grabbed the roosting bar tray I'd taken out of the Eglu Go cos the ducks don't need it, and one of the boxes and blocked off all exits.
Guided them round, again, just when I thought they were gona stay there, huddled in the corner, or run back at me - they rushed inside.
Woohoo!!!
I quickly got the back on, and let them out into the run.
In hindsight... it was my fault - I should have started them in the Eglu like the other two - so they knew where to go back to, but it just didn't work out like that.
Next time...

I found two of these one afternoon, but I didn't have my camera with me. I sent one of the kids off to collect it, but had the hassle of watching 2 tiny beetles racing across a massive beach. I had a brainwave to stash them in a container while I waited. They were utterly flummoxed by their confines and made no attempt to scale the sides. They just ran round and round...but....every single time the male "discovered" the female, he would frantically mate with her. I didn't warm to him, and she seemed a bit the same way. I let them go afterwards so she could have her space back. There's a video of their rough style of interaction and a boring video of how quickly they walk on the sand here:

4DSOUND: Circadian opens with a performance by Lisa Park. Park works with EEG brainwave headsets as a self-monitoring tool to measure her emotional response to the world around her.
‘NUE’, meaning silkworm in Korean, transforms the physical space of 4DSOUND as Lisa moves through the system wearing a 200-metre long white dress, weaving an intricate web of passages, pockets and walls. Confined within the web, the audience interacts with Lisa as she moves in the space, through whispering, looking, and touching. Driven by Lisa’s brainwaves, a soundworld unfolds that encompasses the audience in its unravelling structure. Sonic textures melt together or fall apart based on Lisa’s emotional state, being tense or calm, focused or distracted.

New York-based artist Lisa Park has developed a series of performances using biosensors (brainwave and heart-rate devices) as a vehicle for manifesting her inner states. Lisa’s recent works “Eunoia” and “Eunoia II” involved using a commercial brainwave (EEG) headset as a self-monitoring tool to measure her physical and psychological states. These performances obtained real-time feedback of her emotional reactions- an investigation into a new form of expression and trans-sensory experience by visually and audibly reflecting her inner states into tangible forms.

This is not digital art, but a true oil-painting, albeit, 'hard-edged.'
This was my first "pixel-painting", an oil-painting technique that I originated in 1985. The subject is Marvin Zindler, a Houston television personality, best known nationally as the TV reporter in "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".
Mr. Zindler lost his brief battle with pancreatic cancer on July 29, 2007, in Houston. He was 85.
Oil and acrylic on canvas, 24 x 36 inches.

Theatre and Performance Practice students from University of Salford present 'It's Complicated': a series of monologues and duologues exploring the complications of life in a changing world. The show focuses on topics, experiences, and relationships that tend to go unspoken in everyday life, such as grief and disability.
The idea of 'Under Construction' was the brainwave of its directors and principal writers, Will Main (Rochdale) and Elizabeth Todd (Handforth) who wanted to test out new ideas before showing them to the public. The first show of Under Construction was staged at the New Adelphi Studio Theatre, Salford where the audience was invited to feedback. The Greater Manchester Fringe performance is its first showing to the general public.
