A few pictures of my newest and biggest camera, an Ensign Special Reflex in quarter plate size. The lens here is the standard one, a 6-inch f/4.5 Aldis-Butcher anastigmat. This has lost some paint (most noticeably around the aperture markings, which does affect the ease of reading and adjusting the aperture when you have the camera on the strap), but the glass is in really good nick.
The lens-board offers a small amount of rise and fall - about half an inch in each direction.
I also got a Ross 11-inch f/6.8 Telecentric with the camera, which screws into the same flange.
I had a brainwave; one of the lenses I have for my Century Graphic is a 127 mm f/4.7 Ysarex, from one of the good Polaroid cameras. That's five inches, and it covers 4x5 inch. Why not fit it on the Ensign, I thought, and see if I can get a slightly wider view. The answer is that it won't make infinity focus; even the six-inch Aldis lens is very well sunk in, with about 90% of its length inside the camera. Still, I thought let's try it and see how bad it is. I made a lens board (out of the hardboard back of one of those hardboard-glass-and-four-clips picture frames), and mounted the lens in it. Since the board has to slide in vertically, you have to fit the board, and then mount the lens, with one hand through the open focal-plane shutter to put the retaining ring on. Not something to do quickly in the field, I think. Anyhow, the focus thing is even worse than I expected; the far limit is under a metre, plus whatever I get by stopping down! I completed the board with a metal plate to let me use the rise though, and I even painted it black, so it doesn't look too bad. I tried this, with six sheets of CHS50. I left it a bit late, and the light was running out before I finished. I messed a couple of sheets up (they got scratched, and/or were touching in the developing tank), and some were spoiled by the subject moving during the long exposures I had to use to get small apertures; but I think I will have at least a couple of decent ones to scan, once they dry (taking ages). I took all but one picture using the rear focus screen; I used the lens' shutter for all of them, since it has much less inertia than the focal-plane one (i.e. it didn't shake the camera). It was an interesting exercise, but the Ensign isn't cut out for close-up work like that; the Century would always be a better choice. In the pictures I took, you don't notice that it's a wider view, maybe because of the shallow DOF, and my choice of subjects.
I later bought a 7¼-inch Homocentric; perhaps a questionable choice; it's not very different in length from the 6-inch lens, after all. What can I say - it was really cheap. The thread on that is a quarter inch wider than the one for the other two lenses, so I've made another hardboard lens board just for the Homocentric. I cut a hole in a wooden block close enough that the lens thread fits straight into the wood, without a flange, and screwed that onto the hardboard panel. It works well enough. The glass isn't as clean as the other two lenses.
When I bought my Calumet monorail camera, it came with an eight-inch APO process lens, without a shutter, which by chance also fits straight on the Ensign.
In the end I saw a five-inch lens in a sunk mount; a TTH Cooke Anastigmat, no less, and in good nick; at West Yorks Cameras. I have got as far as checking that it fits, it makes infinity focus, and the shutter will release in that position, with hardly any extension (the shutter lever is prevented from going all the way if you don't rack the bellows out at all). It does all of this, just, so I think this is absolutely the shortest lens the camera will stand. So I have a few toys in this kit: now I need a kick to make me get out there and try it out.

This morning Jeero was out in the garden playing when he found some tracks in the snow. After comparing the size of his own feet (several times) he finally decided that they had to be from some kind of animal and so he decided to follow them.
After a couple of miles he finally noticed that there was a reindeer up ahead eating some fruit that a farmer had left out, and that the tracks appeared to lead right to the reindeer.
"What woulds Babo tells me to do, hmmm", he pondered for a minute or two and then all of a sudden he had his first ever brainwave, "I must makes very very slows movement, so I doesn't scares the reindeer aways, if I don't threatens of scares it maybe it lets me says hello".
Slowly but surely Jeero shuffled his way through the snow trying in his own special way to be "statues-likes" until he stood only a short distance from the reindeer who by now was watching him very, very closely.
Jeero outstretched his hand and continued to stand perfectly still, and soon the reindeer came over to say hello, and let Jeero pet it's fur. As he did so the thought came into his head, "Man!!! When I gets back and tells the others they will not believes me and thinks that I is just makings it up!".
Poor Jeero...sometimes not being the smartest cookie in the cookie jar has it's down sides even when he does tell the truth!

Art Science (KABK) - The Holographic Brain

“We must storm the citadels of enlightenment. The means are at hand,” William S. Burroughs wrote to his best friend Brion Gysin. The means, he was referring to, was the invention of the dreamachine.
A rotating cyllinder lamp-like device, which produced a stroboscopic light. You would see beautiful patterns, shapes and colours, while looking at this device with your eyes closed. Even full hallucinations have been reported.
The trippy experience provided by the dreamachine fascinated the two beat-generation artists immensly, as well as a wide range of other artists and performers, mainly in psychedelic circles.
The effect produced by the dreamachine, however was not something new. In fact it has fascinated people since the begin of time. Flickering lights and repeated sounds have always been important for spiritual rituals, to induce a trance like state. Shamans, prophets and ordinary people used the effect as an aid for meditation and expanding their conciousness..
The first time this happened, according to one theory, was when a shaman stood under a tree, when a flickering shadow fell on him, created by the leaves slowly moving the wind. When he looked up and closed his eyes the flickering of the shadows gave him a visionary and spiritual experience. This could be the reason why trees take a really important place in all religions worldwide.
There are also stories about prophets, Nostradamus for example, waving their hands in front of their closed eyes, while looking at the sun. This would give them the ability to vision the future.
The first scientist to report it was the great Jan Purkinje, 200 years ago, when he was still a child. He found out that, by looking at the sun with his eyes closed, and waving his hands in front of his eyes, ‘beautiful figures’ would appear, which gradually became more intricate.
It doesn’t really matter what method you use, be it a device, your hands or a natural source, in the end the effect stays the same. The only difference is that modern day devices give us more control over the flicker and intensity. That’s why the dreamachine was such a revolutionary device, as it made it a lot easier to experience the effect.
Brion Gysin and scientist Ian Sommerville created the dreamachine after reading William Grey Walter's book, "The Living Brain". Walter, a neurophysiologist, was a pioneer in research of brainwave activity. In this book he describes his experiments with stroboscopic light. He found that flicker-induced hallucinatory experiences of his test subjects seemed to be as broad and dynamic as anything experienced in the medical case histories. As suggested by himself, this effect is caused not by properties of the light itself, or by the eye, but are a product of the brain.
One theory is that the flickering is interfering with the brain’s visual cortex, attempting to deal with intermittent signal. It’s hard not to wonder if the patterns you see perhaps offer a glimpse of our own brain activity, something beyond our own senses.
In my performance I also make use of the flicker effect, but I have more control over it. In my performance, the audience wears white plastic masks, this way they look into a ganzfeld, a totally white field during the performance. In my set up, I use beamers, projecting light on the audience’s masks, completely immersing them in the light and colors of the projection.
I play an 8 minute live composition, based on the varying effects of different frequencies of flicker, colour, binaural beats and sound.
During the performance every spectator will see something different, varying patterns and colours, created within their own brains.
I hope my performance is another little step, in the long history of flicker, but above all, I hope to give the audience the opportunity to experience this amazing effect for themselves.

Body Temperature
It is important to maintain a constant temperature so that living organisms can maintain metabolism. There are two types of heat regulation: endothermic where the species controls their own temperature (mammals, birds), and ectothermic where temperature reflects the environmental temperature (lizards, fish).
Temperature in mammals is detected by thermoreceptors in the skin and hypothalymus which is in the brain. Changes in temperature bring about nerve impulses from the brain to the muscles and glands which will bring about changes depending on whether it is hot or cold.

My brain really struggles to turn off, particularly if I've been active on a problem all day. I've spent quite a bit of time on my PhD yesterday and then had a brainwave at 3am about a problem I've been having whilst building some of the components for a test rig.
Essentially I've been struggling to draw a circumferential line around an element, my idea that I had doesn't look too bad here in all honesty, bearing in mind that the red line is about 0.5mm thickness.
It's going to be a long long day though today having been on the go so early, it's like having a new born in the house again.
Behind the masculine bulk of Gundam Virtue, it hides the slender feminine form of Gundam Nadleeh within. To activate Nadleeh, Tieria must utilize his quantum brainwaves to interface with his cockpit to discard Virtue's armor. Designed to serve as Tieria's "trump card," Nadleeh is capable of using Virtue's shoulder cannons as hand-held guns; its regular complements, GN Shield and GN Beam Rifle (derived from Gundam Plutone) are stored inside Ptolemy in case of emergencies.
In regular combat, Nadleeh is a high speed melee combat unit, though it's unclear if Nadleeh comparable to Exia in this regard. When Nadleeh is unleashed in battle from Virtue, Nadleeh would reach for its cannons to clear the battlefield with heavy beam firing. When launched just-as in battle, Nadleeh can use fire-and-shield tactics with its shield and beam rifle. For melee combat, the unit has a pair of beam sabers for close range combat. It's unclear of the complete range of Nadleeh's abilities as the unit was rarely deployed for battle. The true power of Nadleeh lies not in a firefight, but in its Trial System.

‘Eunoia II’ involves using a commercial brainwave(EEG) headset as a self-monitoring tool to measure a performer’s physical and psychological states. This performance obtains a real-time feedback of a performer’s emotional reactions. Throughout the performance of ‘Eunoia II’, the intensity of a performer’s feelings at the time are mirrored in the intensity of the sound in terms of volume, pitch, speed, and the panning of the sound output. As a result, the water responded in real-time creating different formations of ripples and droplets in unpredictable patterns.
American-born and Korean-raised, Lisa Park is and interdisciplinary artists who is currently based in New York. She is a recipient of NYFA ( New York Foundation for the Arts) a fellowship in the category of Digital/Electronic arts. She has been selected for NEW INC., New Museum’s first museum-led incubator program in art, technology and design since the Fall of 2014. Her works where featured on Wired, The Creators Project, The New York Times’ Bits Blog, Time Out New York and many others. Park’s work investigates a new form of expression and trans-sensory experiences. She developed a series of performances using biosensors (brainwave heart-rate devices) as a medium for manifesting her inner states.
Jacques Lavoisier played to nearly 10,000 people during The Assembly concert organized by the Varkey Foundation to honor the teachers of the world.
DJs4good was happy to support the Varkey Foundation for the 4th year in a row.
Other performers included Hugh Jackman, Rita Ora, Loren Allred, Kris Fade, Liam Payne, Pallab Stalker and Little Mix.
Jacques Lavoisier's brainwaves were monitored in real time thanks to EMOTIV's Insight neuroheadset and transformed in visual digital art in real time to the delight of the audience.

Years ago, while living in NYC I saw a EEG being used to read
brainwaves at a dorkbot talk. The idea of using brainwaves to control
things in the physical world was appealing to me, but I never managed
to pull a project off. Part of the problem was the the Open EEG project had so many different variants and technical
hurdles that prevented me from getting started. Recently a new
generation of childrens toys have been released such as "The Force
Trainer" from Uncle Milton. The hacks are already coming out for reading the ASCII data from the device yielding information
about attention, concentration and the headset connection. We will
take apart my unit soon enough.

I always have been fascinated with number sequences and the application of those.
So i decided to use fibonacci sequence in origami.The number of centimetres between one mountain fold and the other is a number from that sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21 excluded 0).
This photo gives no justice to the real model wich has been folded from a rectangle sheet of heavy, fabriano paper.
The technique used comes from Paul Jackson's fabolous book wich are called "twisted pleats/folds".

Binaural beats or binaural tones are auditory processing artifacts, or apparent sounds, the perception of which arises in the brain for specific physical stimuli. This effect was discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove, and earned greater public awareness in the late 20th century based on claims that binaural beats could help induce relaxation, meditation, creativity and other desirable mental states. The effect on the brainwaves depends on the difference in frequencies of each tone, for example, if 300 Hz was played in one ear and 310 in the other, then the Binaural beat would have a frequency of 10 Hz.[1][2]
The brain produces a phenomenon resulting in low-frequency pulsations in the amplitude and sound localization of a perceived sound when two tones at slightly different frequencies are presented separately, one to each of a subject's ears, using stereo headphones. A beating tone will be perceived, as if the two tones mixed naturally, out of the brain. The frequencies of the tones must be below 1,000 hertz for the beating to be noticeable.[3] The difference between the two frequencies must be small (less than or equal to 30 Hz) for the effect to occur; otherwise, the two tones will be heard separately and no beat will be perceived. Binaural beats reportedly influence the brain in more subtle ways through the entrainment of brainwaves[3][8] and have been claimed to reduce anxiety[9] and provide other health benefits such as control over pain.

A binaureal beat is created by playing a different tone in each ear, and the interference pattern between the slightly differing frequencies creates the illusion of a beat. It's intended to be heard through headphones, so there's no cross-channel bleed across both ears. Listen to this, I'll play a simple binaural beat, and I'll slide the pan control back and forth from one ear to the other. You can see that there isn't actually any beat, it's just an acoustic illusion:

It can alter your mood, help you follow a diet or stop smoking, get you pumped up for a competition, calm you down, put you to sleep, enhance your memory, act as an aphrodisiac, cure headaches, and even balance your chakra. Binaural-Beats.com offers a $30 CD that they call the world's first "digital drug". They claim it can get you drunk without the side effects. I-Doser.com offers a range of music tracks that they say simulates a variety of actual pharmaceuticals, such as Demerol, Oxycontin, and Vicodin. Suffice it to say that no matter what superpower you're looking for, someone on the Internet sells a binaural beat audio file claimed to provide it.
