The Kalasha or Kalash, are a Dardic Indo-Aryan indigenous people residing in the Chitral District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. They speak the Kalasha language, from the Dardic family of the Indo-Aryan branch. They are considered unique among the peoples of Pakistan. They are also considered to be Pakistan's smallest ethnoreligious group, practising a religion which some scholars characterise as a form of animism, and other academics as "a form of ancient Hinduism".

The Kalash are considered to be an indigenous people of Asia, with their ancestors migrating to Afghanistan from a distant place in South Asia, which the Kalash call “Tsiyam” in their folk songs and epics. Some of the Kalash traditions consider the various Kalash people to have been migrants or refugees. They are also considered to have been either descendants of foreign people, Gandhari people and the Indians of eastern Afghanistan. Based on their shared genetic drift, it is considered that they may be an ancient drifted North Eurasian stock.

The Kalash of Chitral have maintained their own separate cultural traditions.

Beautiful long braids on a beautiful girl. I'm guessing that the fluffy white spots on her sweater are angora.

Reached Explore #407 on 7-16-07.... and #398 by 7-17 though I'm sure it wont' be there long! I find it odd that it hit Explore for the first time nearly a year after it was uploaded when it belonged to roughly ten different groups, over half of them designed to get views (which supposedly the Interestingness algorithm is supposed to count against you)

Another shot of my hair in a french braid...

Yes, he was that bored. Not bad, now if I can just teach him to french braid...

Braided Corona Star (Maria Sinayskaya)

squares, 8 units, no glue

The reverse looks the same way.

This star, "braided" on both sides.

Scraps of ribbon and yarn from my craft stash, none big enough to make anything significant, so I measured them out and braided them. All sorts of textures, weights, and fibers braided into one 6' scarf. It is quite warm too!

Can you identify any of the yarns? :)

Playing with my hair for Our Daily Challenge topic 'Braid or Braided'

This is the braid Arwen wore at Helm's Deep ... which you only see by watching the bonus materials, since they cut her out of that scene.

The aerial perspective reveals patterns unseen from the ground: serpentine streaks of turquoise, ashen deltas unraveling into silence, golden sediment swirling beneath cold blue streams.

This collection aims to highlight Iceland's paradoxical softness within its raw, rugged terrain. The story lies in the transitions—the dance between light and shadow, fluidity and form, erosion and creation.

My hair is finally getting almost long enough to put into braids.

Hermitage of Braid, Edinburgh

Another fishtail braid done by my husband this time after an oiling.

And I've come to know the wish list of my father

I've come to know the shipwrecks where he's been

I've come to wish allow

Among the overdressed crowd

Come to witness now the sinking of this ship

Throwing pennies from the sea top next to it

And I've come to roam the forest

Past the village

With a dozen lazy horses in my cart

I've come here to get high

To do more than just get by

I've come to test the timber of my heart

Oh I've come to test the timber of my heart

And I've come

To be untroubled in my seeking

And I've come

To see that nothing is for not

I've come to reach out blind

To reach forward and behind

For the more I seek

The more I'm sought

Yea the more I seek

The more I'm sought

And I've come to meet the sheriff

And his posse

To offer him the broad side of my jaw

I've come here to get broke

And maybe bum a smoke

We'll go drinking two towns over after all

Oh we'll go drinking two towns over after all

And I've come to meet the legendary takers

I've only come to ask them for a lot

Aw they say I come with less

Than I should rightfully possess

I say: The more I buy

The more I'm bought

And the more I'm bought

The less I cost

And I've come

To take their servants and their surplus

And I've come

To take their rain coats and their speed

I've come to get my fill

To ransack and spill

I've come to take the harvest for the seed

I've come to take the harvest for the seed

And I've come to know the manger you sleep in

I've come to be the stranger that you keep

I've come from down the road

And my footsteps never slowed

Before we met I knew we'd meet

Before we met I knew we'd meet

And I've come here to ignore you cries and heartaches

I've come to closely listen to you sing

I've come here to insist

That I leave here with a kiss

I've come to say exactly what I mean

And I mean so many things

And you've come

To know me stubborn as a bitcher

And you've come

To know me thankless as a guest

But will you recognize my face

When god's awful grace

Strips me of my jacket and my vest

And reveals all the treasure in my chest.

My hair in a fishtail braid after yesterday's oiling.

Suddenly I took out the scissors and showed you. I noticed how your breath stopped. I felt your fear. But your swollen fly said otherwise. I placed the braid between the sharp blades and ran it slowly down the length of my hair. You groaned, and I really liked it. But the time has come .. The blades slowly began to shrink at the very beginning of this beautiful, smooth braid .. Scary? Or exciting?

Up until about 10 minutes ago, I had a braid which was keeping my hair in check. It’s not very long but it’s silvery grey. Now I should be able to wash my hair more efficiently and thoroughly— it was a good idea at the time but the time had passed

If that's not a perfect french braid, I don't know what is...(my husband's words, not mine)

My "misc to post to Flickr" folder has gotten quite large over the years so this week I will be posting a few dozen of those images. Some of them you may have seen another version of before, but most of them have never been seen and all of them have been digitally remastered.

“I met her at the Fruitvale Bart station. She had her hair braided and I asked her, ‘Why you got all that fake hair on your head?’ She told me it was real and she unbraided her hair and said, ‘I don’t let people touch my hair but I’ll let you touch it’. I put my hand in there and I didn’t feel no tracks, no sow in weaves, nothin. So I asked for her number and she said, ‘No, you give me your number’. But she didn’t call. 2 weeks later I ran into her again at the Bart station and said, ‘You didn’t call me! Can I have your number so I can call you?’ and she said ‘No. I lost your number but if you give me yours I’ll call you.’ 2 days later she called. We talked on the phone for like 6 months and she finally let me take her out. We became boyfriend and girlfriend but we lost contact for 4 years, I was still in the streets at the time. Then after 4 years I ran into her at the Fruitvale Bart station again. I asked her to be my girlfriend again, and she said, ‘No, but I’ll be your friend for life.’ Now every time I look at my wedding ring I know she kept her word, she’s really my friend for life.”

AMTK nos.465 & 48 bring the 7:45am ex-Seattle through New Westminster headed north @Braid St.

It came out kind of unruly because I braided it pretty quickly.

Things are starting to feel more organized in my household. I'm upgrading to CS5 today. Yay!
