Wall-post figures from the former 16th century aisle ceiling, now mounted in the south aisle at Newport,.

St Nicholas's church sits at the heart of the picturesque market town of Newport, an impressive structure built of red sandstone with a solid looking early 14th century west tower and a Perpendicular style nave and aisles. Most of the church is the result of Victorian restoration, being largely rebuilt in 1866 (chancel) and 1883-5 (nave) by John Norton, except for the medieval tower and the15th century nave roof.

The exterior is rich in carving, with numerous gargoyles and pinnacles adorning the Victorian nave and aisles, and a weathered medieval figure of a knight (believed to represent Henry I) mounted on the tower.

Inside the church retains the feel of a late medieval town church despite the rebuilding, owing to the reuse of the original timber ceiling and bosses and the convincing design of the arcades. The furnishings are mostly Victorian, but a fine late medieval tomb (c1520) survives in the south chapel, with alabaster effigies of a Tudor couple on a carved tomb chest.

The most notable feature of the interior is the very diverse collection of stained glass windows by a mixture of studios and artists spanning the late Victorian to contemporary, from work by Burne Jones and Kempe to several strikingly modern windows in the nave aisles.

This church was a familiar landmark throughout my childhood as we passed right by it numerous times en route to visit my grandparents in northern Shropshire, but only now have I finally got to see inside and explore it properly (a previous attempt years ago having failed when it was locked). It is generally kept open for visitors between 11am and 3pm daily

Bottom bracket area. Can you see the ripple effect on the seat tube? This is my biggest disappointment about this particular finish.

I found this Victorian oil lamp bracket in an old building. As much as I wanted to claim it as a souvenir, I left behind with the dust and cobwebs.

Bracket to be mounted to the rear-end housing - this is where the swaybar links will attach. The multiple attachment holes allow the links to be mounted vertically when the bar is adjusted.

The lamp bracket came from the Meadows Lamp gallery, who consider it to be from 1848.

The embossed pattern in the background is a sample piece of a Lincrusta design known as Cleopatra RD1962.

As can be seen there's quite a good match between the both the shapes and sizes of the Lincrusta wallpaper & the silver plated wrought brass scrolls and whorls of the lamp bracket. Is this just a coincidence, or are both derived from a common source, or perhaps even was the bracket designed to fit the Lincrusta "Cleopatra" design?

I've been tracking these brackets since they were small and brown. Now they are a rich deep red -- almost like an old slice of beetroot!

.......of some sort, thought maybe a Jelly rot fungus, but not 100% sure.

Found this on an old fallen beech on Tuesday up at Castle Coch.

Only about an inch wide, quite small, but there was a lot of it.

Decided to make a quick bracket to hold two flashes on one light stand. This way I can run two flashes on 1 stand, through 1 umbrella. This will also allow me to shoot two flashes at 1/2 power instead of 1 flash at full power and use less battery power AS WELL AS faster recycle time.

I should paint it black, but let's face it, it's a $1.79 bracket from the hardware store, the paint would cost more, haha.

This will have to due until I can afford Ab800's.

These weight brackets slide up and down the boom and lock into place with simple wingnuts.

Weights aren't included but you can easily attach anything as a counterweight with these. I normally use standard 2kg free weights or for more portability I use water bottles (a 2L water bottle weighs 2kg) and just tape them on. Check out the youtube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPtVYBDNIuQ

Bottom brackets from Tange Neco RPM and modus. They are all interchangable with each other to a certain degree and all use the Shimano tool. None of them are symmetrical. The small ring is a Shimano freehub spacer which works as a chainline spacer inside the adjustment ring. A Shimano gear spacer will also work to move the chainline the other way. It may be possible to use a dual row bearing on one side to also move the chainline 3mm. One of the bearings failed by fracturing and I was able to remove it with a hammer and broken axle it came out in pieces. There is no excuse for this good sealed bearings will not break in normal usage. A BMX bottom bracket bearing is also shown for comparison. This bearing also fits some unicycles and I can attest to it's indestructability

This is the Artist's Conk fungus. A bracket fungus grows parasitically out of the trunks of trees and continue to grow after host tree is dead. This fungus drops spores from the underside of the bracket thus seeding a new bracket below the first one. These fungi are usually very resistant to weather and rain so they stay in place on the tree year after year. Each year the fungus drops spores which form a new shelf below the existing one. They are usually dark on top and light or even white underneath where the spores originate.
