Brocklesby station and signal box sseen just before closure of the box in October 2015 just before York ROC took over control of the area.
The box is a curiosity, not only is it sunk into the island platform but its panel was intended as an emergency one that could switch in and out as required. The box was to close and Ulceby would have taken over the immediate area, however Brocklesby Signal Box remained and the panel took its place within the huge box, whose levers were removed and the frame boarded over, but it still remained beneath.

The Tuck Box was constructed by designer-builder Hugh Comstock in 1927, either as his office or in response to his wife's hobby of making "Otsy-Totsy" dolls. It was first used as a restaurant in the early 1930's and was named "Sally's". The building just to the rear was also built by Comstock in 1929 and was used as a garden shop, and much later as The Tuck Box Gift Shop. The kiosk next to the patio gate was added in 1931.
In the early 1940's, two sisters from England started the small tea room which they named The Tuck Box. After operating the restaurant for eight years, Mrs. Bumbridge and Mrs. Watson, sold to another British couple, John and Elsie Grandfield. Elsie's delicious recipes have had the greatest and most lasting impact on The Tuck Box. Many are still in use today.
In 1948, the Grandfields hired young Lucille Pinkston who eventually bought the restaurant in 1960. By 1964, Lucille had become Mrs. Glenn Berry and the couple also bought the property. In 1976, Glenn and Lucille sold the property and business to another long-time employee, Aleen Hillbun and her husband Harvey, thus ending Lucille's twenty-six years of association with and devotion to The Tuck Box English Tea Room.
Many members of the Hillbun family helped in the restaurant and the neighboring gift shop in the ensuing years. After her husband, Harvey, passed away in 1987, Aleen withdrew from the business. Her sister, Phyllis Yelusich, saved the day and took over full management of the restaurant. The Tuck Box Gift Shop continued to survive until it was closed in November, 1996. Today, the delicious preserves, scone mix, whole grain cereal, tea and other items are available for purchase at The Tuck Box or by mail order.
On Thanksgiving Day, November 28,1996, ownership of both the property and The Tuck Box English Tea Room was assumed by Zigmont J. LeTowt and his wife, Dianne. Jody (known by his middle name) and Dianne have been residents of Carmel since the early 1960's. They owned and operated Le Bistro…from 1969 until May, 1997. Sadly, Dianne passed away in May, 2002. In late 2003, their older son Jeffrey assumed operation of the Tuck Box. Jeff was born and raised in Carmel. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1993 with a degree in resort management. He will strive to maintain the esprit that has made The Tuck Box a Carmel tradition for over sixty years.
Wrangle has laid claim to a large cardboard box. We let him enjoy it for a few days before we disposed of it.
I made these as a gift for some friends of mine in Montreal Canada. They are custom shoe boxes made to look like large books.

El nuevo pabellón deportivo en Agua Prieta llevará el nombre del atleta sonorense y medallista de bronce en el Mundial de Atletismo, Luis Rivera.
AGUA PRIETA, SONORA, NOVIEMBRE 05 2013.- Obras emblemáticas de infraestructura deportiva, cultural, recreativa y de pavimentación, que habían sido anheladas por años y que transformarán la vida de los aguapretenses y nogalenses, entregó hoy el Gobernador Guillermo Padrés, con una inversión cercana a los 110 millones de pesos.
En una intensa gira de trabajo por Agua Prieta, el mandatario sonorense entregó el nuevo pabellón deportivo de alto rendimiento, que lleva el nombre del atleta Luis Alberto Rivera Morales; entregó la nueva Casa de la Cultura y la obra de remodelación de la plaza General Azueta. En Nogales inauguró el nuevo Gimnasio de Box y entregó recursos del programa Todo Pavimentado a los alcaldes de estos municipios fronterizos.
Acompañado del medallista de bronce en el Mundial de Atletismo en Salto de Longitud, Luis Rivera Morales, el Gobernador Padrés develó la placa del nuevo Pabellón Deportivo en Agua Prieta, que será un incentivo para que más niños y jóvenes de Agua Prieta descubran y pulan su talento como atletas.
“Venimos a entregar este pabellón deportivo que va a quedar en la historia de Sonora, que ha sido una inversión de cerca de 40 millones de pesos, fue un sueño de la gente de Agua Prieta que cuando yo andaba en campaña me comprometí, no ha sido fácil y hoy podemos decirles compromiso cumplido, estamos entregando una obra de primer mundo que no se había visto en la región del norte”, resaltó el Gobernador Padrés.
Ante la presencia de la alcaldesa Irma Villalobos Rascón, funcionarios y familias asistentes, Padrés entregó este recinto deportivo con infraestructura de alto nivel que incluye pabellón de gimnasia y de halterofilia con áreas para boxeo, pesas, tae kwon do, luchas, judo, vestidores y oficinas administrativas.
“Este día se trasforma la vida de niños, jóvenes y muchas familias, con estas instalaciones de primer mundo, como el Gobernador lo ha dicho, invertirle al deporte es invertirle también a seguridad y salud, y sin duda alguna esto es lo que la gente necesita”, afirmó el atleta aguapretense, Luis Rivera.
Tras reconocer del joven deportista como el orgullo de todos los sonorenses, Guillermo Padrés entregó ahí mismo a la alcaldesa Irma Villalobos, un cheque por casi 24 millones de pesos, del programa “Todo Pavimentado”, para mejorar las calles de la zona urbana de la ciudad.
El Gobernador entregó además la obra de remodelación de la plaza pública “General Azueta” que con una inversión de más de 4 millones de pesos que incluyó instalación de pisos nuevos, rehabilitación de monumentos existentes y construcción del Monumento Bicentenario, el asta bandera, kiosco y faroles.
De igual forma, Guillermo Padrés cumplió con otra promesa hecha a la comunidad aguapretense, al inaugurar la nueva Casa de la Cultura con una inversión cercana a los 6 millones de pesos.
Inuaguran nuevo gimnasio de box en Nogales
En Nogales, el Gobernador Guillermo Padrés hizo sonar por primera vez la campana en el ring del nuevo Gimnasio de Box “Oscar Valdez Fierro”, en reconocimiento a este talento nogales que ha puesto en alto el nombre de Sonora.
Acompañado del alcalde Ramón Guzmán, el mandatario recorrió las instalaciones del recinto que tuvo una inversión de 3.5 millones de pesos entre Estado y Federación.
El gimnasio cuenta con tercerías, cimentaciones, techumbres, instalaciones eléctricas e hidrosanitarias, aire acondicionado, equipamiento deportivo, gimnasio al aire libre, además fungirá como dentro de detección de talentos y entrenamientos para atletas de alto rendimiento.
Además, entregó al alcalde Nogales un cheque por 29 millones de pesos para continuar el programa “Todo Pavimentado”.

Well, sort of. Got tired of trying to haul around Boy Scouts without an SUV, and no cargo space. Lose some gas mileage, but way cheaper than buying a gas guzzling SUV. Inspired by Phantogram's, "When I'm Small"
After abandoning my hotel, I finally moved in to the house. All the boxes shown here are empties. I filled the living room before joyzgr8 came in, flattened the herd of them, and we loaded them into the garage. They remain there to this day. But I wanted to show this picture as testament to my mad unboxing skillz. It's nice to know I have something to fall back on in the case of an emergency.
The original had the whole post box in and some pavement. The best bits of the photo were the red against black and the details on the black.

I recently wanted to experiment with wooden hinges for an unusual box I was making.
After reading Roger Gifkins excellent article (available for free download from www.gifkins.com.au/SingleActionWoodenHinge.pdf), I decided that I really did not want to work to the precision required for Roger’s method.
The method detailed below demonstrates how easy it is to make wooden hinges without a great deal of precision. The technique involves making a set of individual hinge fingers and then assembling them to make the completed hinge. An added bonus is that two or more contrasting timbers can be used to give a unique feel to the hinges (as in the photo of the completed box).
I make no claim to originality. These hinges are so simple to make that there must be others who have or are using this technique.
The Beamish Museum is an open air museum that features recreations of life in the early 19th and 20th-century in the north of England. Buildings are filled with period furnishings, vintage trams and stores are adorned with vintage advertising and museum staff are dressed in period clothing.
This letter box was located in the 1913 colliery village.
This little Sharp 'Elsimate' EL8131 came with it's box and instructions too. It has LEDs, nice and bright!
Someone must have treasured it. It probably cost quite a lot back in the 70's.
