Who said the cover should fit perfectly on the box?

Let me out of here!
I'm feeling a bit boxed in by work and stuff at the moment. And by doing this project too (although, of course, sometimes it's wonderfully freeing).

As I was walking down the trail at Susquehanna State Park (Picnic area) early on the morning of May 17, 2015, I encountered this Box Turtle. I love these guys!

Here's a Quaker Quisp box from 1997. Neat variety with the upside down alien. Just emptied so not quite flat yet.
Steam rises from the Beloit Box Board paper mill below the dam in Beloit.
All the waste paper collected curbside by Beloit's municipal trash pickup is recycled here. The crews who pick up trash are good enough at spotting non-compliant paper waste, that the trucks just dump it here and it goes straight into the pulp vat to create box board. The box board made here is often found as the gray or brown cardboard backing material on notepads of paper like you buy at Staples.
(When you see a black spot on those cardboard backs, that means there was a bit of grease or oil in the paper stock. That's bad in large quantities which is why we can't recycle pizza boxes, waxed food packaging, or containers with food residue.)
The mill doesn't pay the City for the recycled paper dropped off here. Instead, the city saves a ton of money by not having fully loaded trucks leave town taking the paper to some recycling center that would pay for the waste paper. The savings in fuel more than offsets the loss of recycling revenue. (Compacted paper is some pretty HEAVY stuff!)

Here are some photos taken with this camera.
The cable that had been installed to hold the glove box door level when opened had broken, so I went looking for a replacement closer to the original mechanism.
This part came from James Paddock in the UK.
Do not mount the fitting too high on the door or the top of the slide portion will strike the top of the inside of the glove box when the door is closed. The position to mount the fitting inside the glove box seems correct as found in the car.

A Midland box in the rain. Fiskerton, seen here on a wet August day, situated on the Nottingham to Lincoln line contained a Midland Tumbler frame of 16 levers. Both box & frame date from 1902.
I found this WW2 German ammo box at a brocante in France. It is dated 06-44 and was used for "Gewehrfallschirmleuchtgranate" which roughly translates to: illuminating parachute grenade

The soon to be removed crossover at Shippea Hill and the new “modular signalling” in situ and ready for use with the signal head bagged over.
Shippea Hill signal box is a fringe box to Cambridge. A simple crossing box working track circuit block to Cambridge and absolute block to Lackenheath. Here the gates are seen with the box in the background.
Well, it's just a little bowl now but if I take some wood from one of the background boards and make a cover I could call it a box.
Anyway, last spring after one of our windy storms I happened onto a nice branch from a sycamore tree and picked it up. I finally got around to sawing into it yesterday and found that there was plenty of rotted wood but also plenty of color and beautiful grain. So, I decided on a box and maybe a tray to set it on.
The box is 3-5/8" diameter by 1-7/8" tall (8.5 x 5 cm).

Small box made from a 4x4, made by the photographer. (He's a better photographer than woodworker...) Taken in Albany, CA by a Nikon N75 with a Nikkor 28-80 kit lens on Fuji Superia 800. Exposure unrecorded: Nikon Speedlight SB-50DX used. Negative scanned into computer by an HP G4010, dust removal and gamma correction done in Paint Shop Pro Photo X2.
Method: Rip about ¼ inch of material off opposite sides of the 4x4, keeping off-cuts - these will be your top and bottom. (and keep track of which one is which!) Cut out center of box with a band saw, keeping off-cut. Glue bottom of box onto center. Rip ¼ inch off the top of the center off-cut, glue to top, making sure that top is centered both ways on box. I make the center slightly excentric so the top will only fit one way. Finish with one coat of orange shellac.
Done correctly, these make good "stash boxes": they'll look like a solid 4x4!
